I had my third drink of the year last night and god, do I feel shite. How I drank at least 4 days a week for 20 years I'll never know.
Anyone else here give up the booze?

Yo Burnsy,
I have taken a break so to speak, and quit drinking the beginning of October. The wife too.
We normally cocktail every night, wine with dinner most nights (not with Japanese, Chinese, Mexican etc.), and grab a beer on the road once in a while.
I think it's a good idea for anyone who drinks like we do to stop occasionally for a while just to see what it feels like. We have had wine with dinner once since October first, and had a beer each on a few occasions we went out on the bike.
In all honesty, I feel just the same, don't miss it but feel no better. The wife feels exceptionally better and revels in the change. We have no plans at this time to restart, or not. Just playing it by ear.
I have the smoke to give me a lift from normalcy, the wife now has nothing.. To each his/her own.
Hope you're feeling better soon.:D

gave up drinking years ago.....damn i can't even remember how long ago it was.....:hmmmm: as you say, how did i manage to drink all those cocktails years ago....it was a drinking every weeekend kinda thing....and one day....just had enough....went three months without a drop then tried one....it was never the same again
try and take away my smoke though and your treading in dangerous waters :p
After surviving CHF, my cardiologist suggested I stop drinking. He said that alcohol was a poisin and would really fuck me up bad now. I never was much of a drinker , I like good Scotch and wines, so stopping was ez. Then I fessed up to my MJ usage, thinking oh no here it comes. Then he asked if I had a supply of MJ that I could have readily available? I grinned. "Then he said, smoke to hearts delight! (pun intended) eating it is even better. If it were legal in this state I'd write you a script"
This caridologist was once in the top ten rated cardiologist in NYC, he says.. STOP DRINKING AND SMOKE MORE POT! it's actually good for you (the pot not the smoke)

funny you should mention that......
i make a big batch of hot buttered batter every year around this time.
i like the occasional beer, but i don't liketo get too out there. sooooo....
this year i made a special version of my batter for me and my non-drinking friends. i made a batch of cannabutter (2.5 sticks of butter, 1/4lb of trimmings and loose buds), and used that to make the batter(i did a full photo documentary of it to add to the recipies later).
now, while mrs layne enjoys her hot buttered rum, i'll be drinking alcohol free hot cannabuttered apple juice. i imagine 2T of batter per drink will make for a nice, liver friendly buzz.
i used to love to drink to excess when i was younger, but my body can't handle it anymore.
that's why i love grass.

5.30PM and I still feel like shite. I only drank 3 pints of German Leffe and 1 litre of 8%. Looks a lot when you read it! Thing is, I drank for twenty years and never ever got a hang over. Since I stopped last January it plays havoc with my head. Besides the usual hangover traits I find it very depressing the next day. I just can't do it any more and to let you in on something, I lost my mother and one brother to alcohol. That's one of the reasons I stopped. (Besides starting to talk crap like everyone else who frequents bars.)
I never found it difficult stopping the juice and am 100% pleased at starting back on MJ. It makes me more creative, converse, considerate and in touch with my future and past.
Like Lady Lunatoc says, went three months without a drop then tried one once, it was never the same again
And Mel. Look after that heart. My doctor knows I smoke MJ and he's supportive and in agreement that it has it's place in medicine. My brother was horrified that I told the doctor, but it probably shows I'm more laid back and in tune with society? It isn't as though the doctors going to get you busted? Anyway, I knew he secretary and him are playing docs and nurses on the quiet, so I knew he couldn't be that straight :D
And Aggi. It sounds like I'm at the same fence as you. I didn't find it difficult and I don't really miss it. Summer time you need the odd cold glass of beer, but on the whole I'm far happier with MJ. Any chance of some bike pics?
Burnsy.

I would be very careful about talking about smoking with your doctor. If you have something serious going on like Mel then probably a good idea. But I would make sure you really trust the dr. and you might mention not to put it in your chart notes. Don't worry about the doctor, worry about the insurance company. If they got wind of pot smoking, they could attempt to deny coverage. Just a thought.
If you are seriously ill, you need a doc you can trust enough to tell them about it anyway.

worry about the insurance company. If they got wind of pot smoking, they could attempt to deny coverage.
Insurance? :rofl2:
No need for that. I'm soooo manky I wouldn't be able to get it. Smoker, ex big drinker, spinal op this year, prostate lump removed 2 years ago and a pair of hands looking like they've been through a blender. Would you insure me and would I want to pay the premium?
When me times up me times up, and if anything falls off along the way, well thats life.
I still feel like shite.

actually had a really nasty bout with Ta-Kill-me one night. Went to a 2-fer night at a local watering hole with a couple of buddies.
Was drinkin' tequila shots and Sunrises all night. Taking a big ol gulp off the sunrise the pourin the shot back on top to replace the OJ and grenadine.
Lost count after round 10...luckly the place had after-hours, still didn't help much.
Sitting in the air-condidtioned club and dancin my ass off all night only increased my thirst. When after-hours ended, no choice but to head outside. The low temprature in Phoenix that morning was 88.
The combination of bar muchies, tequila and the still lingering desert heat got to me by the time we made the car. Needless to say, there was a tremendous parasaltic chain reaction before we got in the car.
By taking turns driving and stopping for breakfast we eventually made it home by sunrise. I didn't touch tequila for 7 years afterward. I still have a hard time with doin' a shot of Cuervo...
Butas far as drinkin goes I can take it or leave it. I can go weeks or months without touchin a drop, then I'll just go buy a 6 or two for game weekends. If I were told I couldn't drink any more. OK
And currently I'm outta smoke and that doesn't really bother me either. when I can harvest some more I'll smoke some.
Just letting the body clear itself of toxins and the eventual buildup of THC makes the next liquid or smoke buzz that more enjoyable.
Primarily because the body does get used to being intoxicated or stoned. Giving your body a break is not only just out and out good for you, but the buzz is that much more intense when you go for the first puff or shot after layin' off for a while. and were not just talkin to the end of the week either.
Then 1st time I got a good buzz after not smoking for nearly 7 years was amazing. I was utterly lost for hours. And all it took was 3 one-hits over 15-20 minutes.
Best thing is I'm looking forward to that 1st hit of some decent weed after my smoking hiatus.
I'm planning on not smoking for the next 2-3 months, primarily because I'm going to have some bloodwork and other tests done. And because I don't plan to buy anything, so I'll wait until I can harvest dry and cure some of my own. I'll send ya all a postcard from the perimeter......

back n the late 80's early 90's I had to detox b/c of a habit with a snowy powder..the anniversary date of me being clean is 3-3-91..but before I gotta hold of it I was clean 7 mos twice and once 5 mos..everything, any mind altering chemical or being around users was taboo..until I finally realized I did not like being around sober ppl 24/7 so just let the one go and kept canna and my beer, nothing else..I would not be honest if I said I do not occasionally drink past the social thing...I rationalize it as self-destructing instead of lashing out...and man do I pay for it the next day..and to even think about doing the old back to back thing is out of the question...but lately my drinking is at a minimum since a real close alkie friend past away recently from alcohol abuse..r.i.p...another thing is ..with this kinda smoke if I try to drink like back in the day..forget it, I'm gone..it took me a while to realize this ..but now if we/re shooting pool or generally just being the guys..I have a limit and will go to water or juice after I reach my quota...err..usually..so now the wife and I will have a few beers and smoke up together..but nothing to excess...usually :D...so i know where you are well, burnsy..ugh..but the time-line on this hang-over had me laughing a bit. been there ..but would be perfectly happy if I never went there again. :D
btw..milagro..just curious..I thought wine with dinner..except with japanese, chinese, and mexican ect :D..was healthy..why stop that?
while we are on alcohol...I don't drink hard liquor except on occasions when beer seems out of place to me and then two is my absolute limit but I have always wanted to try to make green vodka..phantom at hc..long gone now..used to make it....he would empty a quart of vodka into something then add the bud..let it soak for two weeks and pour it back into the original bottle and stick a bud in it big enough that it stood up and not just lay on the bottom like a grub. I always wanted to pull one out at a party or w/e as a conversation piece or to force feed an unruly guest. :D..just never have.
burnsy..ectrolytes and vitamins..like gator-ade may help.
mel, damn, I didn't know you have gone through all that. :(

It is healthy. It's my understanding that an alcoholic drink or two a day is good for you, especially red wine.
We haven't stopped drinking for health reasons altogether but to see if there is a significant change in the way we feel. We have had a beer or two since the last writing and consumed a bottle of wine during consecutive dinners.
Yesterday I even fixed myself a hot buttered rum in the afternoon. The wife is happy to not drink, I'm indifferent. I plan to drink during Xmas and New Years, then to back off again afterwards.
Nothing written in stone. I'm no temperance leader.

I'll tell you all something. I'm a bit feckin pissed off right now and am considering throwing in the towel. Why I'm bringing up someone elses kids and getting shit at the same time I don't know. I still think about cycling across the states or across Russia to China and it's getting more tempting every week. If I ain't here all of a sudden you know I've thrown it in.
I'll still go ahead with the hydro set up but if I walk I walk, and without hiring a removal van. Enough to fill a couple of suit cases and a few boxes is good so you don't get talked into staying when deciding what you can take and what stays. Leave it all here and walk. That's the way................ 2thumbs
38, no kids, never married and on my second father surrogacy. I must be feckin mad..........
Rant rant feckin rant................
my second father surrogacy. I must be feckin mad.

Cheap.
It's not a disiplin issue with me. The kids are an absolute gem to have around and I could never give them as a reason to walk. They're good company and show very good manners and respect for children their age.
I just get a bit of that surrogacy thing going as I haven't had my own, and by choice. When I were young, I thought we'd all grow up and do these things like a programme, but I seemed to have stuck at 23 and missed 15 years of auto-pilot. I shouldn't complain really cause theres a whole loada guys out there with either no woman, or with a mental one!
like i said I wasnt to sure if i read it right
but i get yas now M8 2thumbs

i dont' drink any more....
don't drink any less either:D
Well, for a long time I spent drinking as much as possible. Me and my friend, before we really got to smokin (before I had a grow) spent night after night after college classes binging and watching tv. It was fun times. But all fun times end and you add drinking to depression and you're bound to get some unfavorable result. Soon I was binging alright, and then purging if I ate anything until it became a habit.
The last time I really got drunk I was at my friends bday party and my drinking got outta hand. Before I knew it time had passed, the bar was closing, and my friends dragged me off to some restaurant. I drove my friends car, while he went with some other friends. I'm not so fond of him anymore as he brought me along to drive him and let me drive alone instead. I shouldn't have drove that night and I handed the keys over once we got the restaurant. That is the only time in 10 years of drinking that I had to hand the keys over.
Anyway, when I came home I was horribly depressed as some of you might know (the ones that were in the hc chat that night) and ended up cutting myself on purpose. Long story short. I haven't really drank much since. I drink for taste now and rarely if ever get a buzz even if I am trying.
No I'm a MJ girl now only. A MJ girl I will stay. 2thumbs
