Hey ice –
Let me get this straight… you wanna know what the difference in yield will be if you use 1 gallon pots verses ½ gallon pots?
If that’s the question…. You can take several factors into count.
But mainly it would depend on how big you’re plants are and what type of lighting you’re using.
Ok… I found what I was looking for….
03-08-2006, 04:27 PM - i get 50 6"clones into my flowering room and i have a 400 watt hps but my room is 5'6" long 2'6" wide and 4' tall but i also have a light rail
Now, you have 50 clones that are at this stage in life around 10” tall?
Man you got a predicament here don’t ya ice!
You’re approaching the need for 1 gallon containers. Are you going to let them grow straight up? Or will you be flowering these using a scrog style?
Have you thought of maybe using plastic tote tubs instead of individual pots? You’ll be able to utilize more of your space and light if you can maximize the pot size. Also you’ll provide more soil for the plants to root around in.
I’ve had good luck using 10 gallon plastic tubs with 6 to 8 plants in each that were vegged to 10” in height then flowered. They really start crowding each other for light if you put any more then that in the tubs. However the roots seem to do just fine.
Maybe you could even build a container? This will drastically improve the amount of soil you can fit into your 5’6” x 2’6” space.
Last choice would be to find 8” square pots.
To answer the question…. 1 gal vs. ½ gal pot sizes…. Depends….
But in your case as it stands right now… I’m willing to bet you get just about the same yield if you were to use the ½ gallon pots… that’s if you were to turn them to flower tomorrow.
If you’re going to let them grow past 12” tall you may want to consider using large containers.
If it were me… and knowing what I know now, which is very little compared to some here…. I would veg them until they were12” –14” tall…. build a large 10” high soil container put some fencing about 8” above the soil and turn them girls to BUD!
Seems to work pretty good…. For me anyway.

thats partialy right im in the prosses of sitting up a new cloening room where the will grow roots in 16 oz cups then be moved into my new veg room the old ballest from my old flowering room 400 watt where they will be put into 6" square pots until they reach the right height for each strains clone then they will be repoted inti 1 gallon pot and moved into my new flowering room which is 1000 watts im in the proses of building all 4 of my new room then all the lighting from my old rooms will be moved into the new rooms right now the clones in the flowering room are put in no taller than 6" and finish at 12" for my nothern lights and 18" for my ice clones im setting up a bigger room so if down the road i want to try bigger plants ill have the room

..... well it sure does seem like you know what you're doing..... guess I shouldn't of assumed you had only the small space you decribed in your other post. When in reality you have more space behind door #3 and/ or door #4... gebus! < 3500 grams will keep 4 people smoking 2+ grams a day for a year!
So now I'm cunfused... when you seem to already know the height and pot size required for each of the strains you're growing..... why did you ask that question about the 1/2 gal vs. 1 gal pots?

any thoughts
sure ice
i got some small pot's going now.... largest is 1 gallon and smallest is 1 tablespoon
also have some 1 qt and 1 in a 12 oz cup all at 4 weeks in flower today
here's the diff i see and have always seen in a grow like mine with same strain in diff size pots
the bigger the root ball can get the bigger the plant will get.
so yes your yeild will increase if you go to 1 gallon pots and will be more than worth the extra soil ;)
if ya want i canget ya some pics and update my GJ so ya can see what I'm on about ;)

well my clones will be 6" when put to flower for the more sativas the indicas will be either 8" or 10" when put to flower under a 1000 watt hortilux hps they will be vegged under a 400 what m.h. light i just like seeing a mini forest of plants so i use a sea of green style of grow

say bro,
that is what i did this time pretty much just left some in smaller size pots to see the diff like ;) ...veged in 12 oz cups pretty much
all produced bud but the ones in larger pots grow more witch i beleive to be directly releted to root ball size.... will do a test on 12 oz cup veg to 1.5 gallon and 5 gallon for flower to see for sure next grow...
as far as pot size goes just depends on how much room ya got.... seen some great micro grows done in 12 oz cups getting a couple oz's a week
anyhow grow on ice:D

Hey CB. Okay, so you vegged all of these plants in the same size cups; and then flowered them in different sized containers. You said that the plants in larger containers produced larger buds.
My question is, Did the plants in the larger containers produce larger/more roots?
