Here's a few of my own pictures showing 2 pre-flower and 1 picture of a male with pollen sacks.
Having thrown a female out thinking it was a boy, it's advisable to leave a 'maybe' plant until you really can identify sex by these pictures.

I also advise on checking plants daily if not twice daily when new to sexing, as a pollen sack can mature at great speed and ruin your female flowers.

The first two pictures are female preflowers with the third picture being pollen sacks on a male. This segregated male had 3 days left in it before letting its pollen go, but it quite easily could have been within 24hrs or less and in a flower room. So check them as often as possible and as soon into lights on and as late towards lights off as possible.

*Burnsy Tip* I have my oscilating fan on a timer which fires up 30 minutes after lights on. This way, if I were to have a bionic male that opened it's sacks during lights out, the fan wouldn't have spread pollen all around the flower room before getting to the male at lights on. I also have the fan timed to switch off at lights out, that way I can rest easy. ;)

Good luck people.

Thanks Cranky. I don't claim to be a good photographer, but I enjoy taking pics of the hard plant rather than buds or big grow pics. One of the things I wanna upgrade next year is my camera. I use a metal bodied 3.2MP Konica compact, but you can get an rocking 8MP Fuji compact for £250/$400 now.

As long as these pics helped one person I'm a happy fellow. :D

Thanks Mr. Burns, I am a first time grower and your pictures are great to have as a reference. Nice, clear and simple to see the difference. They say a picture is worth a thousand words...and your pictures prove this to be true. You can read all you can get your hands on...but looking at those pictures say it all! Thanks again!!!

It's always good to have Mr Burns and Cranky around for some proper and correct info.

Mind if I BUMP this info up and add my 2 cents.....

Just because I love and miss this place :D
Here are a few more pics Ive saved from past times that will also help sexing and knowing the names of plant parts.

I don't kow how to add inline pics, because these are good photos.

Can someone let me know how old a plant has to be to tell the sex? I have looked at burnsy'd pics but I am so new at this I can't tell? Help...

Usually a plant that has vegged for approximately 3 to 6 weeks will begin to alternate nodes and show preflowers, hairs or the dreaded banana in some cases.

If you want to confirm it in veg.....allow your plants to veg for atleast 45 days or more....24/7 lighting for the first 30 days and afterwards a switch to 18/6 will usually get the plant to show sex easily without flowering it.....

It's nothing special, I just use this method to get my Mom plant.
