well,if ya do a search on a member in the admin cp this is what comes up..

there are no ip's logged what so ever..if it was it would be showing ....other sites do log ip's...i know....not just me but my whole area is banned from hc.com(cant log on)and to do that the areas ip has to be logged....its the only way to keep peeps of a site...we cant do that as we dont log ip's;)

it very rare that i have even gone to the mod panel....i did when first made a mentor...CB talked me through how to work it and set me up with my password etc...

and i haven't had a need to go back there....all the threads can be moved and editted without using that panel...simple and easy to use 2thumbs

so after this thread.....i thought well i would go see....and upon entering my own name....of course it comes back blank...then i tried zen's...blank...all blank...

myself i am a separate party of the admin and other mods and mentors...having only met a few just as the other place was shutting down....

so i guess i would be the best impartial witness to say that what cranky and CB say is true....no IP's are logged

i do hope that i have earned enough of you members respect to know that i am being honest

Well I guess I'm gonna go out on a stoned ramble here to clarify things the best I can thru this thick cloud of smoke......

Are your IP addresses being logged on www.homegrownbud.com? NO!

Are they being logged at all, anywhere? Sorta kinda.

I don't mean to confuse anyone but this is confusing in itself. However, when you log on to a website, no matter what it is or where it is at, your IP address is on the main server that that website is on. There is NO WAY anyone can stop that from happening. That is how the computer sees the website. Now, can it be cross referanced to a username or individual from Homegrownbud or any other website? No, unless the website logs IP addresses. If they do log IP addy's then they will be able to figure it out pretty easy. But here at HGB we are completely safe in that department.

When you sign up to a forum based website such as HGB your IP address is logged in the control panel for administrative use. Most websites log your IP for the simple fact that is how they track trolls and people you don't want on your website, like Dexter.... Anyhow, VB has a setting that is very simple.

Pretty simple, NO..... We set that to NO at the very beginning of creating this website. Well then we still were able to pull up IP addresses in the ADMIN Control Panel. We found out that is the IP address that you initially signed up with. There is NO WAY for VB to stop from logging them. we had to go in and modify the configuration files so that it won't log them. Well then we found that the IP addresses of people that already signed up were still there. I created a new user and the IP address was not logged when I signed up. So then we had to go in to the server and do something, cheap did it so I don't really know. But now we can't find your IP address anywhere. I can not physically myself find anyones IP address that is on this site.

But now like I said in the beginning. This website is being hosted by a company. That company has a server. That server (the one they have in there possesion) will show a list of IP addresses that crosses that site. Every website out there does that. That is just the nature of the beast. Now let's say that server was siezed. All they could see is that 92.888.232.5 (theoretical #) did a hit to that server. With that IP address they could possibly find your physical address. How? Get a warrent and contact your ISP, Internet Service Provider. There are several IP tracing softwares out there, so if they typed that address in they would get your general area, who your ISP is, and some other useless shit. Well, for them to get your physical address they would have to have your ISP give it to them. Most Computers are setup on a DCHP style IP address from there ISP. This simply means everytime you sign on to your ISP or reboot your cable modem and your PC reaquires an IP address, it is different because it is assigned by your ISP. So, your IP address is really never the same. At least the one that is seen on the internet. I won't tread in to that one any further.....

Along my stoned ramble I forgot where I am now..... I'm off in IP hell I think.:eek:

So, simply put. There is NO WAY your name can be traced to your IP adress from HomeGrownBud.com. Now, I know many people have names on other sites, and many different one at that. If you get traced from there, I am sure they could put 2 and 2 together and figure out that this person is the same user. So, a lot of your security is up to you too. We have done our best and eleminated everything we possibly could and I went out on a stoned ramble and tried to explain things a little bit so please just be safe at what you do and be careful where you go. I personnaly have a name at a couple sites and I have no fear of my IP address being out there. Even if they did get my IP address, I live in 1 single city and grow a very little amount. Now I know that like 4 million dollars has already been spent at the war on drugs ( think that is the $$$$$ I heard the other day) but I simply don't think they are gonna go thru the whole thing of getting in touch with MY local law enforcement officials, proving to the judge that is this person at this address with NO DOUBT so he will issue a warrant. I just don't see that ever happening, EVER.

Now I know these are scary times for some peeps but you have to really think about it and do you think they are actually gonna come after you even if they seen your IP on a confiscated website? I don't but that is just my 2 cents.... I think the only ones that have to worry are the ones that own/operate the website because those are the IP addy's they got a warrant for and raided, now some of the "BIG-TIME" growers may have something to worry about but I don't know....

I say we are safe here so let's all smoke a bowl and be happy....

here's how the ban works when one doesnt log addys

we just ban the troll's name

they can just change there name and log right back in

if the staff is doing there jobs they will catch the likeness in post and just keep baning user names not ip's or email addys ;)

most troll's dont know this and just go away

so the answer is you cant get baned on a true non loging isp forum

luckily we havent had troll problems in the past,and all tho we cant ban ip's we have ways of dealing with undesirables.:electric: All in all,we have a fine group of members,all seem to have there heads screwed on rite and all heading down the same path.altho all new members are welcomed,we should all be a bit selective as to the type of peeps we invite.
We [the staff] will do our very best to keep the boards troll free and the troublemakers away,but this is your community as well as everyone else's so all the help ya'll can give the smoother this will fly.
