Got a couple of spare laptops and want to rig one up in the grow area for time lapse photography.
Any ideas on free software that doesn't come with a bag of cookies

I know there's software out there for different types of cameras, so it may depend on what you are using.
Digital or webcam? I know there's one for Canon as well as Olympus. I've got a Polaroid digi with time lapse options myself....all depends on what you got.
EDIT: Found an article on this that may have some of the info you would want. Got a couple links to free programs, too.

A laptop, so probably a web cam

Just edited that post.
Do you have a digi? Or just a webcam?
You can use a digi with a laptop (I do). Most picture software with digis have an option to use the digi as a PC camera (webcam), so you could, in effect, use the digital camera as a webcam. Just depends on battery power.
But I'm looking up webcam programs for you right now.
EDIT: don't know if this one will work, but flix looks like their trial version might work for you.

I know someone used a digi camera (olympus) hooked up to the mains instead of the battery, linked to a lappy, but using a PIR instead of timelapse software to catch pics of wildlife. I think it's doable from that scenareo, just use software instead of the PIR ;) Be much better quality than a webcam ;)
There's a few timelapse growrooms on utube, it's hardly worth watching the webcam quality vids IMO, hardly worth all the effort ;)

2thumbs That's the kinda stuff Orpheus. Its not necessarily for public viewing in YouTube so it wouldn't need to have quality compromised like San pointed out. Although I don't rule out not up loading :)
I imagine using a web cam but are digital web cams not real digital  I could give it a go and if it didn't work out give it to one of the children.
I've also got a spare digi cam now but it doesn't take a charger, you need to take the battery out and even when plugged in via a USB the battery drains and not charges :(
I'm really looking for the cheapest way cause the laptops are worth nothing and this is an experiment, although if it works well I could rig both laptops up and have two views  One looking down from above and one being swollowed up by the canopy
I imagine having a large flo tube coming on for 10 minutes before the off period and the HIDs switching off 5 mins before giving me a 5 minute window for a pic opportunity.
Thanks chaps :)
