trikester have you tried pre germing the seeds? Try this: http://www.homegrownbud.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4617
If not, lay them on their side and they'll work out which way to send both the shoot & root :)

i germ my seeds til the tap root comes out then i plant it with the tap root pointing down.
like burns said though if you plant it on its side it will grow the right way. roots want to grow down and sprout wants to grow up
you want your dirt wet but not too wet.
once they pop thru the dirt your half way there
good luck

I recommend using some type of starter cube or plug. I never have much luck planting straight into the pots.

Well had 3 germed w/roots out so planted them side ways to see what happens. Tell you what the KFC potato bowl works great for germation. Just lay a paper towel down and put the seeds down then fold to cover. Then pour water over it I use distilled water. Cover and put on top of U'r light.
be honest man, tap water n paper towels work for me, glass of tap water, in soil, the worst i ever had was in jiffy peat pellets. heck even had 90% in my bamboo medium LOL. Keep the medium netural and should sprout everytime if its viable IMO. I've let em soak a week and had some start. Some tougher than others i guess.
