Gotta say I don't watch much TV myself. Probably 2 hours a week.
It'd have to be either a very good comedian eg: Carlin, a good fact based war documentary eg: world at war, a good Brit flick eg: Trainspotting, wildlife/survival documentary eg: Ray Mears or a good film along the lines of the vamp/werewolf production 'Underworld'.
Nowt else rocks my boat :)

I dont have a favorite show, but heres a rundown of what channels I watch
Discovery channel - Mythbusters, deadliest catch, Dirty Jobs
Science Channel - Master Blasters and the different "How its made" or "How do they do it" programs
NatGeo - just about anything on there that is nature/culture related
G4tv - Ninja Warrior and Unbeatable Banzuke
History channel - any war or invention show
Weather channel
CSPAN
I have not watched a new sitcom in probably 6 years. I'll catch a rerun of That 70's show now and then, but really avoid the standard channels.

My problem is...I watch tv too much. Heh.
Gonna agree with Shadows on a few.
Discovery channel - deadliest catch, Dirty Jobs
Science Channel - "How its made"
G4tv - Ninja Warrior and Unbeatable Banzuke
Ninja Warrior is awesome. Love that show.
Gotta couple network shows I watch, too. Big 'Heroes' fan (NBC).
Old comic book guy, too...so I watch Smallville...though I've noticed it just gets more whiney over the years. Still, Michael Rosembaum makes a good Lex Luthor.
To be honest, I really don't care. It's usually background noise anyways, while I play on the compy. Anything that's decent anime.
Oh, and Weeds on Showtime. Gotta watch Weeds.

One of my favorite TV shows is the new series version of Battlestar Galactica. Good stories (lots based on politics and current events) and great realistic special effects. It's on Sci-fi and there also DVD and other such rentals around.
I watch a few other shows with the wife. Terminator (new series), Hell's kitchen, Top Chef, American Gladiators, CSI (all varieties) Law and Order (all varieties), How it works, modern marvels, Weeds, StarGate (all). Not all at once either:D

That dead man's shoes was a great flick Burnsy.. Saw it about half a year or so & have recommended it to many. Have you seen Requim for a dream?
My favorite show at the moment is A&E's intervention. I like getting fucked up & watching it... There's some irony in that I'm sure..
Another favorite of mine is "The first 48", also on A&E. Tis a real life murder investigation show.
Other than that, the news every now & then, Charlie Rose & Tavis Smiley & Nova (all on PBS).

I haven't but seeing how yourself Cranks and I seem to like a similar film genre, I'll be sourcing what you both recommended shortly. I appreciate the recommendation Red 2thumbs

Dead man's shoes is a great film, love the bit when your man appears in the gas mask. Oh and the lads rocking out to Gemini and Dangermouse in the shitty 2CV was another quality moment.
I'll have to dig it out this weekend.
As for tv, well, it annoys mostly, if I put on a decent documentary Mrs Sombro starts to whine "can't we watch something we both like" then turns to either: Sex and the city (hate those fucking skanks) or Fame 24hrs (like big brother but with even shallower contestants) or (jesus!) German MTV, really awful.
Oh well only 4 weeks til the football season starts again, thank fuck.

My wife will endlessly watch reruns of those syndicated sitcoms, Seinfeld. Everybody Loves Raymond, 2 1/2 Men, over and over, every night, for years. A couple of times a year, she'll say "oh look, I've never seen this episode before!" Mindboggling! Whatever floats your boat, I guess.

Wow, Cez, those were all favorites of mine, many years ago. My Favorite Martian, and Mork and Mindy, especially. Erasamus was great on Mork and Mindy, and Jonathan Winters, always one of my heroes, and I loved The Reverend Jim on Taxi, too.
Rev Jim: How many drugs do you think I've done, anyway
Elaine (?): A lot!
Rev Jim: Oh my god, I can't believe you guessed, exactly!
Beverly Hillbillies and Green Acres, Petticoat Junction, too.

Oh, man, you're bringing back memories of sneaking up at night to watch those shows on Nick at Nite!
Me, personally,
When I want to learn, it's History Channel or Discovery. Don't want to spend the time to list all of their great shows.
When I want to laugh, it's Scrubs or all of Adult Swim (Family Guy!!!!!)
Weeds just goes without saying:D
