Members of a Denver-based, pro-marijuana group announced their recommendation to solve the growing problem of alcohol abuse on planes: provide marijuana smoking lounges in airports nationwide.

When U.S. Attorney Troy Eid tackled the topic of people drinking too much on planes Monday, pot wasn’t the solution he had in mind, but Mason Tvert with SAFER, Safer Alternative For Enjoyable Recreation, said maybe he should think about it.

"In hopes of quelling the growing concern of drunk and disorderly passengers," said Tvert.

He points to the woman arrested at Denver International Airport last week.

Court records show she started smoking a cigarette on the plane, yelled obscenities and punched a flight attendant, then blamed the flight crew for serving her vodka.

"This madness has got to stop and we're providing a very viable solution," said Tvert.

He points to a study showing a strong link between alcohol and increased violence, while cannabis reduces the likelihood of violence.

But officials said there is a major flaw in his plan.

"Until such a time when marijuana is a legal drug, the answer is no. Plain and simple," said Mike Fergus, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman.

I hate to say the obvious and take away from decrim material...but isn't public drunkeness still illegal? Seems to me arrest the woman and go about everyones merry way. Just one more thing to waste tax money
Wouldn't think an MJ lounge would fly (no pun intended :p)...thats federally monitored. Thus bound to federal laws.

what a great idea.

but this is really a non story, in reality free booze on flights is less and less frequent. also flight attendants know it's a pain in the arse to have drunk passengers so won't sell you enough to get you bladdered.

but what a great idea, they'd have to put up a departures screen in the area otherwise almost everyone would miss their flight!

I think its a great Ideal..says me the World Traveler that I am..:p
One in Dam would be nice! cafe kinda of set up.
then non stop flights to where-ever sleep the whole way there...
that would be nice..
leave me alone on the plane quit asking me every 2hrs if I am thirsty and bigger bags of those peanuts please..
trolley full of munchies after leaving Dam..of course..
and then sleep it off sounds like a better ideal then drunk (pre-flights and on flight) people on the plane..
I rather be on a plane full of stoners anyday day I fly..
AND a smoking cigarettes in the departure zones not got back out and go thur security checks AGAIN!
and dont think I have complained about this.. cuz I have! to every airport (major ones) Its BS.;) Have "the patches ready along with the nasty gum".
oh lets not forget matches.. cuz some airports let ya have lighters and some wont..

yeah get ready bro i am moving that way.
not really but the more i hear about it out there the more i would like too.

public drunkeness should be illegal every where. just to keep folks from making an ass out of themselves
last time i flew i took a few nighty night pills and had afew drinks in the lounge and slept most of the way back from seattle. taking the pills and smoking a fatty would have been better.

Who is going to set up Toker Tours then? non-stop flights to all Dutch cities, now serving Pakistan, Jamaica and Morocco. All flights full smoking, stewards bring Rizla and munchies every half an hour. Guaranteed trippy films and humour for the giggles on the inflight entertainment. We just have to keep the pilot sober, not an easy job these days
