TOKYO - One of the travelers who arrived at Tokyo's Narita airport over the weekend may have picked up an unusual souvenir from customs — a package of cannabis.
A customs official hid the package in a suitcase belonging to a passenger arriving from Hong Kong as a training exercise for sniffer dogs Sunday, but lost track of both drugs and suitcase during the practice session, a spokeswoman for Tokyo customs said.
Customs regulations specify that a training suitcase be used for such exercises, but the official said he had used passengers' suitcases for similar purposes in the past, domestic media reported.
"The dogs have always been able to find it before," NHK quoted him as saying. "I became overconfident that it would work."
Anyone who finds the package should contact Tokyo customs as soon as possible, the spokeswoman said.

That's a dumb thing to do. What if they don't find it and the guy or gal went on to another country like Indonesia (Where my wife's from) and they find it? There they have stiff penalties including death for even small quantities of banned drugs much less something bigger. In Singapore and ounce or less can get you beatings with a rattan cane (A cane like stick soaked in salt water). Even here in the US you would be in a world of sh!t. How would they prove it's not theirs? "I have no idea that was in there sir" "Honest it's not mine". Good luck. It would be better if they didn't find it and you got a lovely surprise when you opened your bag! "Honey how thoughtful of you" "Oh you shouldn't have" "I guess we'll have to smoke it all here because we can't bring it back" Making a vacation all the much sweeter! :D

You guys are quite right. What if he used the next airport for transit and had a connection  Could have ended up in any country with serious consequences.
You never know, there could be someone in jail now over this. Have customs contacted eachother across the globe to see if someone was arrested with this amount  Of course not. They make a fuckwit statement like "if anyone finds it, get in touch".
Deary me.....

I remember reading about this. The passenger whose luggage it was hidden in returned it the following day believe.
