i just built a new cabinet and thought i would share some pictures of it.

the measurements are 36" x 18" x 54" (w x d x h). for intake, i have a 50cfm valuetest fan, and the exhaust is a 6" in-line fan mounted in the top of the cabinet which will vent into a home made charcoal scrubber. the exhaust is hooked up to a canarm thermostat.

for veg, i have a light board with a solux 125w flourescent side light (12,000 lumens) as well as 4 - 27w 'daylight' cfl's (1680 lumens each).

for flowering, i'll be running a 600w hps with a cool tube. the light is cooled by a 6" in-line fan blowing straight across the bulb and out the other side of the cabinet.

some of the fine details still need to be finished, so please excuse any mess in the photos :(

Hmm basic design looks pretty good similar to my own cab ;nice job on the construction:gthumb: I can see a few problems with the closed loop cooltube though; air in blown over CT then out through carbon will work for heat but will do nothing about humidity/air movement in the cab and venting smell but you will work that out for sure when you get it up and running nice work though:D

hey reubeni, thanks for checkin it out! the fan for the cool tube is not on a closed loop though. the light is completely closed from the rest of the cab. it blows straight across and out the other side. i then have another exhaust fan that pulls hot smelly air out of the cab and pushes it out through the scrubber. there is also a fresh air intake on the back which will help with air movement and a small circulation fan will be placed inside when needed.

cheers.

Ahh then tis all obvious 3 fans ;twil work but not very cost effective! but you will that work that one out too :D lecky is soo expensive and if its not pro productive (economicics) you will work it out ,grow on bro :pass: me watch in!

reubeni,

forgot to mention again that the exhaust is hooked up to a thermostat, so it's not always running.

reubeni,

forgot to mention again that the exhaust is hooked up to a thermostat, so it's not always running.

That will cause RH to be inconsistant.... as far as I know in the great outdoors in the PM the wind still blows, and air flow is as important as medium of light or strain... a bunch of over heated over saturated MJ can be a disappointment

during downtime the smell will accumalte causing "hot" spots of odor ... if oddor is a concern

Personally my HVAC is independant and runs on it's own schedule the goal is to maintain 68 - 72 degrees F, and 50 -60 % RH, regaurdless of the light schedule:2cents:

thanks everyone for the input! in the past i've always had my intake and exhaust running 24/7 and have been quite successful. i had the thermostat laying around so thought that i would put it to use, but this is a very good point.

i guess i will maybe attach the thermostat to an extra circulation fan inside the cabinet to create extra air movement if temps become too warm, and i'll keep my exhaust going all the time like i have in the past to deal with RH and odour. there is definitely good air movement inside when the intake is on.

is that a better idea?

I think that is a fantastic idea, should have some amazing air flowing around them all the time

well I am curious as to how this new grow box worked out???

Were you able to keep it cool while using that 600w HPS bulb??

If so, did you change your ventilation or use any different fans???

thanks!

When Using A Cool Tube it Is Reccomended You Use 600 Or 1000 Watt Bulbs Due To The Light Loss Through the Glass
Anything Smaller Will Be 20% Less Efficient

P.S Heres My Lighting System; And I'm Pleased To Say They Are Back In Business , So Exolux From Growell Is Defunct , And IMO Very Bad Practice Selling Kits They Put Together In Store
Anyone Considering One Of These Quality Lighting Systems ( From The Factory) Contact me Via PM; I'll Be Happy To Redirect You To The New Site;)

Well yet more disinformation don't real know how to comment here with out being considered a troll:crazysign but I will try ,the glass on a cool tube is not a problem it is the reflector or lack off that poses the problems the reflector on a CT has a very short, small footprint less light reflected over distance, this is not a very significant problem in a confined area with the lamp close to the plants which a CT allows you to attain.
As a sideline lumen's drop off according to the inverse square rule, may I ask what's your connection to the lamp supplier above and is the commission good:o

hey PP,

was wondering if you have more info and perhaps charts showing this loss due to curved glass with lower watt light's?

as far as a PAR rated CFL goes I googled it and found plenty, unless you mean something different?

on a side note what do you mean by You're Quoting Me A Bit Much Now

I can tell you bro, no one wants to see you go.

The name of this site is 'homegrownbuds' not 'laboratorygrownbuds'.

Many like myself settled in here because we were tired of hearing about how our grows are not 'optimal' or don't follow 'the rules of growing'. Think I can speak for most here in saying 'I don't care' as I puff my big sativa doobie.

Rules are meant to be broken, and I'll grow my meds no matter what they say....whether politicians or bookwriters.

Was really happy to see you stopped posting pics of yourself, now I just think you should tone down the product advertising. Alot of 'cheap bastards' here that cannot afford or even find all this unneeded stuff.

We just growing weeds here, and whatever works is fine with me...not rocket science ;)

Relax Pete

Sorry, waking, baking and double posting

Think the thing here is:

Lots of medical peeps out there probably can't afford 'dispensary' weed and if they make it to our forum, I would prefer for them to see how easy and cheap it is to grow your own. Many are not physically or financially able to utilize most of these 'products' you mention. So I ask you, are they needed?

If you are a poor broken bastard like myself, check out my grow journal...pretty easy to get fine smoke with a modified shoplight and few party cups full of poop and dirt. ;)

pete kudos for making such statements but what worries me most is you stating you have a 'problem' with marijuana consumption.

I'm old enough and hopefully wise enough to say if Marijuana becomes a problem factor in your life cut it out  Glue sniffing and meth-amphet are all cool whilst on the ride but when recognised as a problem abstention is the only way forward, IMO

Pete I wish you well. I even PM'd you on your heavy use of capital letters in the hope that others didn't get the 'drove all night' eye syndrome from reading your posts.

It seems you have some issues buddy and you say you're addressing them.

Be good and stay safe ;)

Kudos :)

reubeni,

forgot to mention again that the exhaust is hooked up to a thermostat, so it's not always running.

I think you'll find the exhaust will be running more often than not. I have found those big cfl's put out a lot of heat too.

nice cab! have you run any temp tests yet?

Hey Pete, wait til you see one of my grows. I can fry perfectly good plants like no one can, my friend. Maybe someday I'll learn
