Forsyth County authorities announced Thursday that they have uncovered an elaborate marijuana growing operation in the basement of a north Forsyth County home.

Two suspects were arrested, and marijuana with a street value in excess of $1 million was seized, Forsyth County Sheriff Ted Paxton said.

Paxton said investigators went to the home at 5220 Ridge Farms Drive on Tuesday, acting on a tip about possible drug activity.

Inside the home, they discovered a large marijuana farm being cultivated in the basement of the residence.

The farm had an automatic watering system, humidity and heat controls and reflective material, designed to reflect light on the plants, installed in the walls and ceiling of the rooms, said Lt. Col. Gene Moss, commander of the Sheriff's Office's Enforcement Bureau.

"This was the most sophisticated growing operation I have seen in my 30-plus years in law enforcement," Moss said.

Arrested at the home were William D. Morrow, III, 44, and Linda Bates Vaughan, 40, were taken into custody. They were charged with the felonies of manufacturing and trafficking in marijuana and violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act.
