Cannabis in General
The life cycle of Cannabis is usually complete in 3 to nine months. The actual time depends on variety or wether its grown indoors or outdoors, but it is regulated by local growing conditions, specifically the photoperiod (length of day vs. night). Cannabis is a long night (or short day) plant. When exposed to a period of two weeks of long nights (13 hours or more of continuous darkness each night), the plants respond by flowering.
This has important implications, for it allows the grower to control the life cycle of the plant and adapt it to local growing conditions or unique situations. Since you can control flowering, you can control maturation and, hence, the age of the plants at harvest.

Become a little tin god. You are in charge. Become a control freak about your grow. How much light, what type of light , what angle the light is comming from. Airflow, you are the wind master, how much air flow , where to exhaust, what temps to keep the room(s) this is in your control, or it can control you. IMHO, HVAC makes or breaks an indoor Grow. Soil and nutrients are your call. What are you growing in, how are the nutrients deliverd, what nutrients are used.. all your call. Become in charge of the sun, wind, the water, and earth, your plants then listen to you, rather than trying to figure out "what went wrong" by listening to them scream out their death wails.
like a plant. Get to know the things that are important in the plant world. What is it that your plant wants for an optimum life? Think like a plant. One of the things I admire about the plant world, is that it does not recognize the word RUSH. There are no quick fixes plants grow at their own pace, that can be excellerated, but it is still cycle and phase.
Here is one I've discovered and experimented with in side by side growing clones.
MJ plants would rather replace than repair. They can do both

And if I may add to the conversation.
MJ shows changes during all phases of it's growth.
By that I mean you should see change on a daily basis, given the fact you have everything right.
This is especially true during the early stage of growth. It's easy to see a young seedling developing new leaves and branches, but as it matures the meristem (top) will be the place to check for continuing growth.
Just as a general rule of thumb, the top 2-3 sets of leaves should be pointing towards the light source, and the rest of the plant should be green and healthy without any sort of leaf drop at least for the the 1st month or so.
As a plant matures there will be some leaf drop as the plant consumes older growth to sustain new growth. As a plant enters the flowering stage, if left unfertilized, it will counsume the nutrients in older growth to feed itself and the blooms.
