The Denver Post has just called the election and Denver appears to be the latest city to make adult marijuana possession the LOWEST law enforcement priority!
As of the time of this e-mail, about 75 percent of the votes had been counted and I-100 is leading 56-44. You can read the Denver Post story here, the Rocky Mountain News here, or a great ABC affiliate story here.
A huge thank you goes out to all of our wonderful volunteers (and our incredible field director, Evan Ackerfeld) who contributed so much time and hard work to this campaign. I'd also like to thank everyone who contributed financially to this effort, as it truly would not have been possible for us to run this campaign without your help.
Due to exceptionally low voter turnout, this was an incredibly close and hard-fought race. Thus, we really put forth everything we could muster leading up to Election Day.
If you are able to help us move forward and keep this fight up, please visit http://www.saferdenver.com/#donate and make a financial contribution today. Whether it's $10 or $100, it will be incredibly helpful as we carry on and work toward implementation of this measure. On that note...
The fight is not over yet!
This win is huge, but it is certainly not the end of this issue in Denver. Now we need to put the pressure on city officials and urge them to respect the will of the voters. Right now it appears they're going to try to fight and/or ignore this vote!
You can help by contacting Denver's mayor and city council members and letting them know you think they should respect Initiated Question 100. After all, these officials can call of the dogs and stop needlessly arresting adults for marijuana possession at any time.
Here is how we put it in our press release, which was picked up in some news stories:
"It's not a matter of whether they can do this, but a matter of whether they will. If they do not, they are officially breaking more Denver laws than any adult marijuana user."
Please lend a quick hand to this effort by e-mailing or calling these officials TODAY!
** PLEASE be respectful and courteous if you contact any elected officials. Simply let them know that you hope they respect the vote and take action to stop arrests for adult marijuana possession in the city. **

With your help we can keep the pressure on and bring about the policy changes we hope to see. You can donate on-line at http://www.saferdenver.com/#donate or by mailing a check or money order to SAFER, P.O. Box 40332, Denver, CO 80218.
Thank you so much again for your continued support of SAFER and our work to move the marijuana debate forward in Denver, throughout Colorado, and across the nation. We could not do this without you, and we look forward to staying in touch and continuing to work with you toward safer, more rational marijuana laws and policies.
