Moisture & Heat
85 - 90 degrees F (around 24C-28C) is best and required to make the seed germinate. For good germination, lay a few layers of paper towels in a dish.

Place seeds in center of dish. Lay 2 or 3 layers of paper towels on top of the seeds. Moisten with water(i use a spray bottle)

Place dish/bowl in warm area or by heat or on top of a heating pad(iuse my dsl modem). This is true also if you germinate seeds in rockwool, Oasis cubes, or other medium, keep it moist and warm.

NEVER, NEVER LET THE SEEDS DRY OUT!!

When the seeds sprout, and the white shoot emerges, transplant (root down) into your soil or rockwool or whatever medium you are working with. Treat very gently, don't break the root tip and only cover with 1/8th to 1/4 inch of soil or grow medium.

Some seeds take up to 12 days to start germination, but most will germinate within 24 to 72 hours. Be patient, give your valuable seeds a chance to sprout before tossing them out.

Do not let seeds dry out - place Saran Wrap / cling film over the dish and store in a dark place. Add small quantities of water when needed to keep moist.

and off you go:cool:

that sounds good cranky,
I do what you said but I use a small tupperware container, That way, when I get stoned and knock it over the seeds don't all spill out..... :D

works good, I keep it beside my computer monitor.

and directly in soil?

Before you pot your soil add some water and mix. Add enough water to make it moist so that if you squeeze a handful a few drops will drip:D Pot the soil. Dig your beans about 1/2" down, cover the pot in saran wrap and set them somwehere warm. After maybe 2-3 days remove the plastic and give the sides of the pot a little squish to open the soil and let in some O2. If you try this when the soil is dry you may rip roots that are forming.

ya, that's worked good for me too fill, the down side of that is you use soil unnessasarily if some seeds don't sprout. but that's minor.

with the paper towel method you know you have a sprout befor you use the soil.

but like I said it's pretty minor, if you have viable seeds it's not a big worry anyway.

It's worked good for me outdoors too, just throw the seeds in the flower bed and let mother nature do the rest.... ;)

good growin..... :)

I like to plant the seeds right into rockwell cubes, seems to work well for me so far excellent germantion rate that way. I don't have that light touch required to use the paper towel method. Since I grow in soiless medium, rockwell works well for me

Cup of water method for me. Leave em in warm water till the tap root grows the length of the shell.

Then in dirt as above.

I've just germanated seeds in some starter cubes that seem to resemble rockwool, only it's brownish grey..... ???? but I just stuck the seeds into the center and kept them wet and warm and I am now, after 2 days, seeing signs of germanation.....

Let the games begin.... :)

So I used the cling wrap over my pots after I planted them with a taproot. They are starting to come up now. Should I put them under lights now? Should I leave the cling wrap on for now? I know I need a fan, my last batch stretched really bad and bent over and died... I'm still I little confused on the what lights I should get. I just got this gro' light from Lowes, it says 60W I think. Tips would be loved, thanks!!

So just get some fluorescent strip lights? Any other specifics I should know about? Then what should I get after those few weeks, I guess your saying they aren't good enough for flowering? Also, what about the cling wrap, shud I leave that on until they grow up to it? Thanks a bunch!! I'll start a journel when I get a few more mins.

Fluorescent lights work well for growing Garbonzo. Nothing specific, really. Blue spectrum works well for veg, and red spectrum works well for flowering.

They are good enough for flowering if you suit your style of growing for them. Obviously, it depends on how many you have and how many watts.

If the seedlings are showing above the ground, it's fine to take the seran wrap off. I'm pretty sure the main purpose for the wrap is to keep the soil moist.

All you need to do now is put your plants under appropriate lighting, and keep the soil from drying out. Better yet... Read the Grow Guide (http://www.homegrownbud.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8). ;)

or to keep the RH up for the new ones :D

Or that..

Just never had a problem with humidity for seedlings myself? Seem to be just fine once above ground.

After like 3-5 days they really settle in and get a hold of the dirt with that root of theirs; and all is good to go.

Hey GB, go to Lowes and buy two 2x4 fluorescent shop lights. You can get the ones with the batwing style reflector for about 20 bucks or the ones without the batwings for about $8. Get 2 bulbs for each, I use the GE "Ecolux" bulbs for aquarium and vegitation. If you have the money, you can buy 400watt or 1000watt HPS lights and your plants will grow faster and bushy-er-er-er otherwise you can use the fluoros from start to finish which is the way HGB growers have been doing it since... well... since before MV, MH or HPS were available or cost effective. Put the fluoros about an inch or two from the top of your seedlings. Fluoros don't give off enough heat to damage the plant as long as it doesn't touch.

Remove the plastic wrap once the seedling is above the soil and has it's 2 little feeder leaves.

Hope that helps, if you have more questions just ask and start a journal so we can follow along with your grow. :gthumb:

Also, look in the "Grow room design and setup" forum for info on lighting. There are some formulas for how much light you should use according to your room size and plant need.

Here is a shot of my little indoor spot (not including the flowering space).

A general guidline to keep in mind brother...

many genetics will select higher male ratios when germinated under either an HPS lamp or Warm White floro lighting, while many genetics will select for higher female ratios when germed under cool white floros or MH spectrum HID lamps.

Ok, rock on! :p

I have always been a big fan, when germinating in paper towels or whatever, to use bottled springwater (generic store brand type) or Aquafina bottled water and they both work great in my experience but....

This is Thee stuff right here peeps.

What normally PoPs in 24 hrs for me PoPs in 15hrs using this water, and the roots that emerge are noticably more vigorous and healthy too.

OK, just a random germing tip from the dork ;)
