HELP !!!
This lil bastard is driving me crazy.
http://www.homegrownbud.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=12155&stc=1&d=1192975228
Ive tried spybot and a few others but none seem to touch this lil bastard.
does anyone have a registry repair utility or know where i can D/L one (for free of course).or possibly have a clue how i can manually remove this?
I have had a couple of them bastards.
Have you tried running ad-aware by lavasoft in safe mode? Has to be safe mode and if you have the option...do not allow networking.
Sometimes to get rid of a bug or virus/malware
I have to run a boot time virus scan by Avast
Then run adaware in safe mode
Then if that don't work. I try trend micro's house call. FREE Online virus/spyware scanner.

hey westy,
thats a hoax from there website..... nothing is wrong with your pc.....
current xp sp2 will fix it, or winblows defender...
you can also try this...disable and stop Messenger Service by typing "services msc." (without the ""s) into your Run Box and then disabling and stopping Messenger Service. (this has nothing to do windows IM) and should stop the stupid popup

Hey This is Sticky's wife,
He asked me to look at your "Bastard Problem" and see if I can try and help you. I honestly am no Pro with PCs but I know my way around them so I hope I can help.
OK, From reading the Prompt you are getting, I really think the problem is that your PC might be OVERLOADED and probably needs a serious clean up....this could be from a virus that sends CRAP to your memory card and overloads it(where most people dont clean it their PC crashes and they buy a new one) or just be overstocked with info from you depending on How long you had this PC, How many people use it, and If you do monthly/weekly clean-ups on it. So let's see If I can help...You should go into your Programs file(in the start button), then to Accessories, then System Tools, there should be a Disk Cleanup tool. I would try the disk clean up first. It should clean out all of the programs that you dont use and Empty out some space on your PC for you. Then if that dont stop it, I'd go and do a System Restore. Which is located in the same spot at the Disk Cleanup. Once you do this you will loose any unsaved info but it will walk you through the steps to take before doing this. I want you to go back to a day before you had this problem, if you dont remember when it started then just guess. Think was it a day, week, or month ago?? Once you decide a day to go back to, it should clean out everything that has changed since the day you think this all started. All Comps are different so I dont even know if your Comp even has this "Go Back/System Restore" setup but it is worth a shot.
Also if you have tried to find the problem with a Virus or Anti-Spy program and it was not found then these steps should find the problem and if you want here is a link to a Anti-Virus & Spy-Ware program all in one. I dont use it anymore but only because my Internet comes with a free Virus and Spy protection but it is free as far as I know it was a year ago when we used it. If you need more help let me know. Good Luck!!

Ok,I have try'd all the replies except for the XPsp2,and the damn thing is still there.Im on a dialup connection so im having a buddy D/L sp2 and put it on a disc for me,should have it tommorrow.
sticky's wife,
I have done sys restore,I have reformatted this drive several times including the use of a tool that rewrite the harddrive back to all zero's.If the spydoctor found it,the trial version wouldnt remove it.I have been D/Ling spyware tools for weeks now trying to get rid of that irratating pop up.
Dawg,
I tried all of them that you posted except the trendmicro one, only because it requires XPsp2 be installed and i dont have it yet.
Cb,
I figured that it was a hoax, adware installed with my pirated xp disc, but ive had this disc for several years now and have used emmensly without this problem in the past. When i zero'ed the hard drive and it was still there, im kinda at my wits end.I havent a fuckin clue what it is or where it came from.could this be storing itself in my RAM,or motherboard or something not effected by complete reformat?I dont know,we will see when i get sp2 installed.
i tried to run services msc and it didnt respond at all.the run box closed as usual and nothing happened after wards.I ran a search for it and it found nothing.

Actually they could have loaded a spyware variant that is loading up on his start-up or static mem. making it harder to get rid of. It's using the messanger service against him, but disabling the messanger the program will start popping up error messages because the variant program may keep attempting to access it.
Worth a try, but if you get a messenger service error than it means the spyware pop up bastard is still trying to access the service.
You have to type "services.msc"
Or you can access it through your control panel. You must have admin rights.
Also if your using a XPsp1 the key might not work with SP2's validation.
I think I still got a key for SP2 that will pass validation...easy to change it. If you need it PM me ;)

try this bro
1.Click Start and then click Control Panel.
2.Click Performance and Maintenance. (If you do not see the Performance and Maintenance icon, you may be using Classic View. You can skip to step 3 below, but you mustdouble-click Administrative Tools.)
3.Click Administrative Tools.
4.Double-click Services
5.Double-click Messenger.
6.In the Startup type list, choose Disabled
7.Click Stop, and then click OK.
I think sp2 will sort it on a fresh install.... window's xp should never have access to the net with out sp2
give that a try and let us know....still diging up info for ya here....

I was able to access it that way and I disabled it.I'll just have to surf a bit to see if it repops up.It seems like it was on a time session.every 8 to 10 minutes it would pop up but i guess that could be coincedence.
window's xp should never have access to the net with out sp2
I have apperantly been running without it for a few months.never even accurred to me to redownload it and reinstall.

Slipstreaming (http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sp2_slipstream.asp)
just how I did it:) If it's not pop'n up anymore then no format is needed and sp2 will stop others down the road;)

i cant believ the trend micro house call didn't work they've helped us out more than once.
the problem with running system restore is most of the time these viruses hide in the back up files, so when you run system restore it just restores the virus along with everything else. atleast thats what happen with the trojan i had.
good luck with it. i will keep my peepers peepin' for info to help out.
no i dont think you have to do anything but install sp2. its like on add on or expansion pack.
sounds like a vicious bugger i read a few other people have had this prob. we dont use any messenger or we'd probably have it

we dont use any messenger or we'd probably have it
If your running windows you got this messenger.
It isnt a messenger program like aol or msn and yahoo,
This messenger is built into windows so the pc can interact with the user if need be.
We finally got it to go away,Im sure it is still there i just turned off the messenger. The dude that is getting the sp2 for me didnt bring today so maybe tommorrow.Id D/l the damn thing myself but im on dialup and it would take hours. My kids wont let it run like that, everyone has there own pc and thats the one that has to be connected to internet, one at time is the only way to be able to have any bandwidth out of dial up and it sux.
