hi every one. i am not very handy and ran in to a bit of money trouble when i needed it most. setting up my chamber. well i have tried to piece as much together with bits of stuff i run across. well i ran across some sheet metal and tried my hand at making a reflector for my 400 hps i have yet to hang up.
my goal is to some day have an air cooled hood and maybe with a few mods this can be made into one. should i paint the inside white or do you think the reflectability of the metal is good enough.
thanks for any advice or comment

foil? That might be more reflective than paint or the metal.

think so. i know its helping a little. better than no reflector

actually, if you have your bulb hanging down instead of across, you don't need a reflector. just a thought.

I wouldnt paint it or use foil myself:)

maybe just add a few bends to it and widen it out some as well....

first pic is a cheap 25 dollar thing I added to and the other is a adjustable one....

fredo made one off those pics last year maybe he we stop in and post a pic of his home made one

thanks cb i didnt think i would paint it or use foil. i will just try to put a nice shine on it. i have it up now and seems to be working fine. during lights out i will try and make it look more like your pics, cb. which is what i was going for but got a little disgusted. i had to cut that out of a bigger piece of metal than i had to cut acouple of holes in the wall to run the cord. i,ve had the darn light for a week and a half and just wanted to get it up.
i had it just hanging in there yesterday but i didtnt like it vertical plus if the wife saw it just hanging there she'd have a fit.
she said i could try this little endeavor, probably figureing i'd give up by now.
i know i have drove her crazy talking about and running some of my thoughts by her, but she's finally coming around now that my plant is starting to bud.
thanks again cb
:)

Hey Maj5 - You have the basics right now, using what you have made up already it'll be eazy smeezy to improve upon that design... a few more bends and you'll be 'In Like Flint' brutha..... You just need two flat/ straight edges to make a "Break".......
A "break" is a fancy way of saying a device used to make bend or crease in metal.
A table edge and 1"x1' or 2"x4" with the metal sandwiched in-between, held down with claps, will do you up just fine.

Lemme dig out some pics and drawings..... I'll post em up tomorrow. The wife is outa town this week so I'm "minding" the homestead here.... boys have homework, dishes to wash, laundry, etc..... and it's near on my Nappy time.
But basically if you'll look at the pics CB has posted, you can modifiy the reflector you have right now with little effort.

yeah fred thats how i made what i made. put the metal on the floor and laid some wood ontop of that, stood on the wood and pulled.
are their any angles i should be trying for.
i am going by the pics cb posted. try and put those bends in it

looked for my protractor but no luck.... dont know if angle is all that important really but just kinda do like in the pics and it will be close enough to get the most out of your light...

also cant find my gheto brake.... out in the barn somewhere:rolleyes: ...mine bolts to a bench and use's 2(2x4's) with a hinge system.... just hinge them togather and attach to edge of table and let 1(2x4) drop down and slip metal under the one on table and tight'n down then just lift bottom one up... some kind of handle works good for leverage as well...

sorry i cant find mine.... your reflector isn't bad really just think you can get more out of it and mayby better light coverage

Hey Maj5 - Soz I didnt get with yas yesterday..... work, and the boys, and a lil time for the old man out with the buddies.....

Anyhow, here's some pics that show my home-made reflector..... nothing fancy, works great too.
http://www.homegrownbud.com/forums/showpost.php?p=16420&postcount=152

The wooden support end has been replaced by a bit thicker piece of metal.

Angles arent that important, just as long the reflector isnt too wide, wasting light by broadcasting over too large of an area. You dont want the reflector too narrow either, limiting the amount of good usable light over the area.

Now then depending on the gage, thickness, of you metal reflector, you may find it easier to make a reflector like CB's first picture, verses the Bat-wing design in CB's second pic, and the pics I have posted.

Hope this helped you out a little.... any other questions please ask, I'll be around all week-end.
