hi all, i just tested my tap water with a kit for fish. put in 5ml of water then three drops of stuff, any way the test is good from 6.0 - 7.6. mine registered over 7.6. i read useing viniger will lower it. any reccomendations on amount per gal.
so if my waters ph is high does that mean soil ph is also high?
and ph doesnt change by it self right? ya know just sitting around

I'm not sure about the vinegar or anything majesty, sure someone will though.

try getting some tap water and let it sit for 24 hours and test it. i'm not sure if the PH will change. I know this helps evaporate the chlorine and it's better to do it for your plants.

To lower ph: acetic and citric acid will work and it will be a trial and err thing until you reach the ph you want :)

and yes your soil ph is most likely to be a bit high as well

dont think ph changes much on it's own and most likely wont change enough on it's own to get below 7.6 or what ever the true ph is of your water since the test max's out on 7.6

GH makes a test kit like yours but has a much wider rage scale and sell for like 7 bucks and will last a couple grows ;)

first off, make sure you are reading the test correctly. i use ph droppers for swimming pools and ill be the first to tell you that it is VERY easy to misread them. make sure you are in normal/natural looking lighting (no hps, mh, blue floro etc) , with a white backround to see the difference in the color of the water vs. the test panel

if it is still over 7.6 then add a small amounts of vinegar (like a teaspoon at a time) until you reach between 6.5 and 7.0. shouldnt take more than a few teaspoons to do it. it is very easy to make your solution too acidic so remember that adding too little is much easier to fix than adding too much. you may also ph your water using n

not necessarily but for the most part yes

yes, water ph drifts as it sits out, usually becoming more alkaline. as g-mang said it is a good idea to let it sit out overnight tho, to evaporate chlorine

i would like to note that my water also is slightly alkaline. i have ph'd my water for entire grows before (using the drop testers) and IMO it was more hassle than it was worth. i simply let my water sit 24 hours, and water. i only start to look at ph when problems arise. my plants are growing just great with my non-ph'd tap water :)

well i am starting to get what looks like mg def. what i believe is called taco leaf. my margins are curling up on a couple of chix also some interveinial chlorosis. real light right now. i'm guessing mg def. wanto rule out ph before i do anything.
i do let my water sit over a night or two but i checked the tap, over 7.6 straight out.
will adding a lower ph'd water say 6.5- 6. help lower the soil if its high.
i will try to test it when i get some nuetral water.
thanx to all, i've learned alot here but have a lot left to discover

you can probly give em epson salt foiler feed now with no harm...mg uptake slows WAY down after a ph of 8.

do you know the ppm of your tap water?

I never worry to much about my soil ph since i start out at 6.8ish but a good flush at 6.5 should bring it down some for you

peace
