So, yesterday I dropped into a grow shop to pick up a replacement bulb and the guy there told me I was out of date and that I should be using ceramic bulbs because they provide a wider light spectrum. The literature he had was all on commercial applications, so nothing that impressed me other than the spectrum chart. Anybody ever used or heard of these things?
I didn't try one as I was getting a new 1k bulb and these apparently only come in 250 and 400. I thought it might be worth a try in my 400 lamp, but it will be a few months before I am vegging plants again. I want to say the brand was Sylvania, but can't recall for certain.

Check this one out!!! Just when I thought the one one service lighting was big....

Only Las Vegas could boast the world's brightest, most powerful beam of light.
Shining from the top of the Luxor Hotel & Casino (which replicates an Egyptian
pyramid) the 315,000-watt light beam is visible to airplane passengers from as
far as 250 miles away!

315 THOUSAND Watts!!!! Thats enough wattage for 6,300 sq.ft. @ 4 plants per square foot....25,200 plants
BTW if ever at luxor watch them door handles...pinched the heck outa my finger at that joint.
