Are these any good? Is this a good buy? The comments on this guy are positive, the price does seem unusually cheap. Can I grow good plants with three of these straight through? Think those pics are deceiving and these lights are cheesy?
Thanks for your advice.
they are only 24W can get them at wal-mart for the same price. They don't pack enough punch IMHO. Only about 1600 lumens each. Great for starting seeds and cloning tho.
@ 1000bulbs.com you can get 55W pumping out 3600 lumens each. they have both 5000K (6500K would be better tho) for veg and 2700K for flowering. 16 bucks a piece + s/h.
You can grow a few plants under them....HID gets the penetration tho. but you can easily grow alright herb with em.
If strapped for cash i'd go with compact flos.
You'd need two of these to grow opposed to 2X as many of the 24W.
I got a lil box set-up in my journal. holds three bulbs @ 2 sq.ft. w/ (2) 55W and (1) 24W gettin about 4500+ lumens per sq.ft. could easily grow 4-5 plants in it. It cost me 20 bucks for the box. 10 bucks for the light fixture. had some chords laying around I wired up and a CPU fan and lil desk fan. The most expensive part was the flos. lol. Figure you can set something up under 100 bills dude.
They have higher wattage (all the way up to 105W pumping out 6K lumens...whew) but at some point just better to flip the bill and get a HID as they will generate a lot of heat.
Check out the site (http://www.1000bulbs.com/category.php?category=2086)...I ordered from them two-three days ago. I'll post back here and let you know how it went. I paid 75 bucks total on (4) 55W 2-each color including shipping. as much as a 150W HPS flood, but you will be able to give the different spectrums for each stage...not limited to HPS only. hope I helped out some.
edit: on a side note: HID is the best for flowering, but flos will work. Check out a members name "insane" he posted a journal way back and he used compact flos all the way through with nice result.

$15 for 3 24 watt CF's isn't bad. The hype in the ad is what's bad; it's mostly bullshit.
They are decent lights for starting your grow and vegging plants to about 6 - 8" tall.

Gotcha. So I was being decieved thinking those lights were something special. Thanks.
I have a 400 watt HPS and am aware of the benefits of HID lights... But i want to avoid that electrical cost. Would like to make a small cabinet in which I could grow 4 plants or less from veg to flower. Thinking stealth, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
i'll check some more links and get back for more opinions. ;)
got the order today....thought I'd post em for ya man.
55W 5000Kelvin 3,600 lumen bulb on right. 23 Watt 1450 lumen left.
see the quote up top. hope this helps ya out. Not hot. can put my hand right on it. ;) hope this helps ya.
figure three light fixture (2) 55W and (1) 23w of those and 2 sq.ft. cab could easily grow 4 plants man.

The seller's ad was simply a lie. The bulbs aren't T5's or 100w.
If the choice were to grow with fluoros or not grow, I'd go with fluoros. They only penetrate 8" max, and they are less efficient at turning electricity into light than HID. I can understand wanting to keep electric costs down and staying under 400w, but as dawg says, the higher wattage fluoros (above 100w) and T5's are pretty hot. About the same heat as a comparable wattage HID, but the HID will produce more light. A 105w CF makes 6000 lumens while a 100w HPS produces 8000 lumens.
Have you seen this 150w stealth cab? http://www.geocities.com/rolanterroy/stealth/stealth_cab.htm
If you like to grow bushes, 400w is perfect for 4 plants.
in that stealth cab pic you can get that 150W HPS flood with bulb for about 40-50 bucks at e-conolight. ;)
