Everytime I try to save a penny, I get these massive headaches.

I just bought a few bags of this (http://www.miraclegro-organics.com/gardensoil.htm)MG in ground soil instead of my usual FF mix. So, I start making my soil mix and I go on autopilot tossing a little of this and a little of that in. Then I realize, all MG soils have nutes in it already .

I go to the web site and see how they recommend mixing this bag soil with native soil. Should I still go half an half with some soil? Should I toss in another bag of MG soil to cut down on the amount of ferts in it? Anyone have any ideas on how to use this soil correctly?

think you answered your own question there bro. not to be a smart ass. but couldn't help it...been known for worse. :p

You said the magic word MG. ;) PITA works on tough strains great...but sensitive strain a royal PITFA with MG soil go no nutes for the veg. period then use 1/2 strength flower ;). Want expert advice ask TBG he's an MG vegger and then switches to FF for flower. ;)

Hey DLToker. I've seen the MG organic soil first hand as well. It has those little balls in it of fertilizer. I hate to have premixed ferts from a company I don't trust all that well. I like to save a penny too. :p Can get a nice big bag of pre-mixed organic soil from rather "unknown" name brands around for the same price as miracle grow. I use "Master Nursery Bumper Crop". It's a soil meant to just be mixed in on the top 2-4 inches of a garden, as an enhanced fertilizer, to produce a large yield... that's what a bumper crop is, i think. I mix my "bumper crop" with manure, humus, and peat. I mixed one big bag of bumper crop (i'll have to check the sizes) with 1 smaller bag of manure and another bag of humus. I add peat in with my hands, and I only use it to break things up a bit, i don't use a whole lot. This soil is strong, but my vegetables love it and I don't have to feed very often. (My vegetables included pot plants that were very healthy too.)

I'm sorry to rant a little bit off-topic from your question, but whatever. Point is "plain" brand organic soil is better than miracle grow organic soil, and manure is a great additive! Both are cheap as hell!!

For the MG Organic soil.... well, how you should use it depends on how much you bought and whether or not you've opened the packages yet. You can return it, no? I would stick my plants in it and see how they react... Feed them when you realize they need it, no reason they should burn until then.

:smokin: smokin'.. peace.

Thanks folks... I bought three bags, opened one to start mixing with and left the other two in the back of my car... Right now however, I have a layer of soil all throughout my car due to my puppy/bitch. Anyways, I am biting the bullet here and gonna see what the scoop is with this MG. I am going to toss in a gallon or so of peat moss and add some more perlite. I'm stoked for the adventure as all my lowryder beans have cracked within 24 hours which is a rare thing for these thick shelled being!

yeah know what you mean DL, I tried the "organic" (balled face lie) MG soil. only one that barely works for me is the regular MG potting soil and that crap is hot. Had a reply to one of my posts somehwere that it "can't" be flushed...thats bull. but the organic MG is by no means organic. So be careful. ;)
If it was organic...it would not have "time released" pellets. IMHO It would be guano, manure, or something mixed in.
but follow the directions on the bag. it say the "cut" ratio of it...might want to follow it.

Ah, time released pellets doesn't exactly mean it isn't organic though. Blood and bone meal are "time release" nutes aren't they? Either way, if it truly were organic, I think they would have some certification of some sort.

yeah, but i don't recommend using bone or blood meal. besides the health issues that seem to be popping up regarding cows blood n stuff. Outdoors it attracts just about every predator and scavenger to your grow. Down this way you'd have fire ant hills all over the place using those. Seen a couple of grows fry to a crisp using blood meal tho.
Just my 2 bits

i concur, that blood meal is nasty shit i hate the thought that whenever i open the box to start mixing that blood dust flies everywhere in the air eww
