Hello Friends,

First time flowering, a got a great setup, 1000w hps, good nutes, etc. However I underestimated the height factor. THey are heading in to week 2 of flowering and are growing up and around the side of my light. I have tried bending them but they don't bend too easily. I can't really lift my light anyhigher, its one of those bulky box units with a fan. Let me know if you guys know of something I should do.....should I cut the tops off of the plants? I don't want to lose that nice colla bud.........thanks

I just watched this video and was gonna post the link in a thread where we were discussing cropping, but it might be of some use to you. Although yours is already in the flowering stage so you might not want to do this without further input from some of our more advanced members, but it may still be of value to you on your next crop.

and keep in mind stretching usually only lasts for 2 weeks after switching the light cycle. So, they're prolly as tall as they will be right now.

I agree with Red, I would hold off on doing anything to make sure that they have not shot up as much as they are going to. What strain are you growing? Usually the most vigorous growth is that first couple weeks into flower, then the growth slows down. You may just have to rotate your plants to give everyone a shot at good light levels. Good luck.

If it's already growing past the height of your light then I would try ol'crankys idea and break her neck.

In case you don't know what that is, look here http://www.homegrownbud.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1391

I've bent the stem of my tallest plant so the others catch up. Found it used its energy to heal itself very efficiently. It only took it a couple of days to heal up so I bent it again, when it healed up again the others had caught up to it. Now back to your problem.... You're plant is too tall already. It seems to me it would be better to top it, but you might lose some yield with it being into flower. I didn't see where it said what medium you're using. if potted, can you repot it in lower, hydro can you use a box that is not as tall? Just my 2 cents.

Cut it, Snap it, Bend it, Tie it... :p I'm sure it'll all work out fine, just as long as those suckers are getting some light.

when we get a tall plant we put a hook in the wall, throw a loop of yarn around the plant and lean it over. we also use the same method to hold the lower branches up to get more light. you can bend them pretty good without breaking the stalk.

two feet up and two feet sideways.

we have had the same cabinet for a while and there are so many holes in it, there is always one close to where you want one.

anything but cut the main cola this late in the game :)

try to bend it over some if ya can (like wakka said) or even tip the pot some it's in

I have had them do just fine a bit above the light here and have one above the 1K's now

I dont think it's good to snap a neck this late in the game myself and never do, but thats just me...

grow on

I think I solved my problem for this first time around. I removed the actual hps bulb from the box housing. THis way the light can hang down in and round the plants and light is reflect off the mylar walls....The girls seem to like this very much..........

Thanks for all the info, these forums are what this is all about...fuck the man.

Try and be really careful and bend as much as the new growth at the top of the plant as you can without snapping it. Then tie it over. Bend everything that hasn't "wooded" up.

i try and tie mine a day after a good watering. this is best when their full of water and not needing water. go ahead. bend'em and tie'em. i've been tieing mine, well to long to be honest. but if i didn't they would fry as some did in the past. be careful and keep up the good work. you're doing ok man.

i did the same thing on my first grow,i bent them over using string tied to the wall but the part of the plants that were still near the light burnt and i lost a few buds, they just turned brown and died.chopping it would solve ur problem but you will lose in yield for defo.i usually only let them grow for between 10 and 12 days old from seed,if im using clones i grow them for 6 days then put them straight into flower.good look mate
