This is my very first grow and these two plants were started indoors on january 9th 2007. It got pretty cold were it was at a few times when they were still indoors due to us not heating that room. It seemed to have caused them to be a little slow growing, but have bushed them out a little more.
I'm not sure of the variety. They were given to me for christmas along with my only pipe. A glass one I broke yesterday and bout freaked out, but was pleasently surprised when super glue held it nicely. Its been working all day :D
I noticed they have a reddish stem and the hairs seem to be white. Any help on a possible strain or variety would be nice.
The first image is standing just a few feet away and I was happy to see how well they blend in to the surroundings.
The pictures were from a couple of days ago. This morning I went down there and put a 5 gallon bucket about 3/4 full of slightly composted hog manure and used about 4 gallons of water in another 5 gallon bucket and it rained a little bit this evening. Hopefully this greens them up a little bit more and get them to growing a bit more.
I'm curious as to about when I might expect the flowering cycle begin when the plant is outdoors?
thanks guys hope you enjoy the pics.
are you worried about sex or strain?

White hairs on a plant mean it's a female, permagrin. You want females because they're the one's that produce buds.
The red stem on that leaf doesn't mean much at all. Could just be genetics, could be something with it's nutrient uptake or whatever... but it's hardly a cause for concern, in my opinion.
Looks good dude, i can't find it in the first pic. :p
:pass:G
look'n good so far bro, couple months yet before the sun hours revert back to shorter days and longer nights so they have plenty of time veg. I flowered a few just to sex them, then put them out to revert back into veg mode :)
I never worry much about a few red stems myself ;)

I am sooooo glad to hear that they are female. I had noticed that the hairs looked like a pair of sexy legs when I was looking at them yesterday and hoped they were females. I was going to search again today and re read what I had read about sexing them. I learned it awhile back, but well I forget crap quick. :)
I forgot to let yall know I planted a bunch of other seeds in different areas throughout the woods, but they were planted as seeds, and planted about a month to 6 weeks later than I would have liked. Is there a chance in hell they will do much? I am going to go take a look at them and see if they have popped up yet. They were planted about a month ago, but it has only rained on them 2 times. I'm hoping by now theyve popped up some, but I don't know if i can find them again till they get a little bigger. If half of them make it and that half has a 50 percent female ratio.. I'll have plenty to get me through to next harvest season. When I see some that are big enough for a pic i'll take some and let yall know how they are doing. I'll take the camera with me and hopefully they're willl be something to take a pic of. :)
I'm going to go down there in a couple of minutes and I'll see if I can't take a better picture. It rained yesterday so hopefuly theres a change :)
Here's the pic with them highlighted.

I'm taking a break right now, but this morning I went and took a bunch more pics of the place and the plants as well. They're still on the camera as of right now. I have been building the closet shelf and made the area to hang the clothes so the wife could get our clothes out of the bags we have been living out of since we got moved in. This way I can get the desktop hooked up and work from there instead of on the laptop. I have carried all the boxes of computer stuff up now and have worked up a good sweat.
Hope to have it all hooked up within an hour or 2 and will be able to upload the images to the desktop and see how they look. The dang new dig. camera we got doesn't have the eyepiece to look through and I can't seem to take as good of pics with it yet. I wish I could figure out how yall do that macro thing.
Do you need an Digital SLR camera to do that with cuz I would love to be able to do that.
anyway hopefully I can edit this message soon and upload some better pics.
to take macro pix, press that little flower looking button. there are different modes on diff cameras but most have macro. if you cant find the button, just google search for the brand and model number for an instruction guide or call the people you bought it from.
digital SLR will take good ones, thats what I used in my buds post.
what kind of digi did you get?
i use a fuji film 3800 and comes with macro and eye veiwer.
this is my second one now that i got off ebay like new for 80 bucks :) paid 400 5 years ago for first one and abused the hell out of it untill the day i left it on the truck bumper :o
I took a pic of the lense i got from the broke one on macro mode with no zoom. (it's 2 of the 4 in the cam glued togather :D then i can attach the 6x up to the digi 6x and with NO macro just strait zoom i can get a little closer. soz didnt use tripod for that but you get the idea right :D

Well for starters.... I don't know how yet, but somehow... All the dang pictures this morning... aren't on the camera and I don't know why.
The good news is... WOW I had no idea that lil pic of the flower on the dang camera did that. I took a pic of my keyboard with it after reading these posts and wow the lil bit of dust on it from being boxed up for over a year looked like big pieces of stuff. That macro thing is THE SHIT. I can't wait to take some good shots with that in use... omg its sooo neat.
Thank you both very much. Hell I just couldn't stand it and took 2 more pictures right now. Lemme resize them real fast and i"ll put em here to see how they look.
well I couldn't get them to look very good, but I did notice, or I think I did that my pipe seems to change colors when its heated. I always thought the colors were kinda ugly then I looked at it up close in the big crack pic and it seemed to have different colors than im familiar with. :)
enjoy.. :pass:
ps. CB. the camera says on it that it is a Sony Cyber Shot and the numbers on the back says DSC-S650. I don't know much about this camera. I was doing reviews on cameras before I got this one and didn't wanna buy anything but a DSLR and well It ended up being just too much money for me to spend on a camera at the time being. So I had decided to not get one for a while and ended up being at walmart one day and got in the mood somehow and just grabbed one that seemed reasonable. I do like how the batteries seem to last a lot longer than our older digital camera. Now that I know about this macro button I'm gonna take a ton of pics of those plants. :)

Glad you got your camera under control :p. Plants look good but I can't wait to see them bigger. Thanks for pointing them out in that picture. Nice bowl dude.
-G
I use a Konika Minolta Dimage Z5 DSLR
It got 10x optical, 12x digital zoom. i don't use the digital zoom because it lessens the picture quality.
the bigger the optical zoom, the better the picture quality.

Hey Permagrin, just something to think about. You mentioned that you planted some seeds in various places in the woods... I hope you didn't plant them too near your others because if the seeds sprout males you could end up with pollen reaching your females. I'd keep a sharp eye out for male plants sprouting nearby and pull those suckas.

Thanks I will. I don't know how far the males spread out theyre love seeds, but the closest seeds I planted to these two plants are about.. 250 - 300 yards and thats through woods and pasture type of environment. I hope its not a problem, but I will eventually have to let a plant seed up just so's I have some stock for the next season. I will keep a close eye on the plants in about a month or 2 from now to see if any of them made it to a decent size. Some of the ones out in a different section of woods are within about 100 yards of each other, but they are in full woods around them. I should have enough seeds left over to plant again next year, but its not the high quality seeds.. atleast thats what I was led to believe.
Will be definately keeping an eye on em though.
thanks,

Hope everyone is well. I started up a new venture and have been extremely busy lately and haven't had time to keep updated with everyone. I will take a pic or 2 this weekend. Here is a little update from my end.
The big one was 52 inches about 6 weeks ago and the little one never grew much. We had a super dry summer and none of the seeds I planted out in the woods made it. Not a one. I hope I get enough off of these 2 to make it through to next year.
I went up to take a 5 gallon bucket of water up to these 2 about 4 weeks ago, because it was so dry that the leaves were starting to fall off and it was still dark in the morning and ended up twisting my ankle and falling down and losing the water and had to hobble back to the house.
Luckily it rained 2 days later. I haven't been able to get back up there since, but it has rained a decent amount in the last month.
I am wondering that now that the days are getting a lot shorter how close am I to harvest. Do I need to try to check on them every few days or so, and how can I tell when the buds are at their peak?
Ol' Permagrin. :)

Good morning everyone. I was finally able to get to my plants and not be too stoned to forget to take the camera. :)
I took a bunch of shots, but forgot to change the settings on the camera. They ended up being huge so by the time I got them cropped and made smaller to fit the site I hope they come out looking ok.
You can see they went through some pretty rough times, but atleast the big one came out looking pretty good all in all.
In the one picture you can see the trees on the adjacent hillside starting to change colors for fall.
I'm going to spend some quality time re-reading the info on here about harvest time.

Ok. I have been doing some good reading and it seems I need to let them be out there for at least 3 weeks AFTER the days reach 12/12.
September 26th it was 12:01 hours of daylight. :sunny:
September 27th it was 11:59 hours of daylight. :sunny:
Was able to find this out by going to The old farmers almanac website.
Here is the link if anyone else would like to have the information.
http://www.almanac.com/rise/index.php
So after careful calculations.... :hmmmm: I am guessing the perfect harvest day would be either the 16th or 17th of October. :grow:
Does that sound right to you guys?
And would it be good to give the plants any supplimental water or fertilizer during the flowering process?
Getting ancy to harvest my first ever crop. Damn I hope it all works out. I'm getting the shakes just thinking about it. :pass: :dancers:
