The 5 Golden Rules Of Secure Growing
by

I ran across this post and was so impressed i thought i would share

Security is probably the most important aspect of all. There are situations that sometimes arise that one cannot control which could lead to a bust, but many people often misdirect their concerns to things such as power bills, or flir scans.

About those bills. If you'd like to know your energy provider's policy on personal intrusion due to high energy bills, the best thing that you can do is go to a payphone, use the yellow pages, and give them a phone call. Play the part of someone that's concerned with civil liberties (there are thousands of websites that will give you the lingo to sound convincing- aclu.org is a good one to start with). If you've got less than a 30 kWh/day drain (meaning up to 1600 watts of veg light, or 2400 watts of bloom), then you've almost certainly got nothing to be concerned with.

And even where warrantless Flir scans are okay, it's simply not going to be the starting point of an investigation- it would be combined with another factor to further either the investigation, or the final case

===========================================
The 5 key things to keeping your grow safe remain the same.

1 Don't ever show anyone your grow. They immediately become a potential witness. It's never a good idea to let someone see for certain that you grow pot. Having a "partner" can also be a very bad idea. "But I've got a 10,000 watt room, how the hell am I going to trim all that?" They make plenty of great machines that can cut your trimming time from 8 hrs/lb to 20 mins/lb. If you are growing so much that you can't trim it all yourself, then a couple thousand on one of these machines is a great investment in security.

2 Don't ever give the police a reason to enter your house otherwise. This means you want to keep good company, and also keep your nose out of trouble. Backing out of a fight that you could easily win while at a bar now becomes a survival mechanism. Stay out of trouble. Stay away from shady folks, those with records, probation/pareolees, etc.

3 Don't tell people that you grow. Word spreads fast, and you're telling someone because it makes you feel cool that you're a grower... they'll tell someone because it makes them feel cool that they know a grower. And especially never correct someone that's talking bullshit about growing pot- if they put one and one together, and they care enough about talking about pot growing to lie about it, they'll certainly care enough to tell people about "This grower I know, ___________, he said that...."

4 Don't let smell escape... ever! You lose your ability to gauge how stinky it actually is if you grow... the rule is, if you can smell it outside your room, it's FAR too much. Never ever ever grow without either a carbon filter or an ozone generator. There's also a myth that you can buy strains that don't smell/don't smell like pot. To a wine afficianado, certain red wines tasted like raspberries and oak, with chocolate aroma. To me it smells and tastes like red wine. Relying on getting a rumored "scentless pheno" so that you don't have to buy a carbon filter is a horrible plan. A combo of ozone gen after carbon filter is best, carbon filter second best, and an ozone generator is the least you can have. Ionizers aren't enough, and blocks of jello that have a purfume that sort of smells like pot (ONA) also aren't anywhere near ideal. Anyone that knows what pot smells like will say "Hey! Is that a candle I'm smelling? It smells sort of like pot!" (not very stealthy) Odor control is very important, but very often skimped on. It's the easiest way for police bust you- Odor control equipment is as important as your lights.

5 Don't throw anything from this plant out with your garbage. No roots, no leaves, no stems, no hash production waste material... not even a damned roach. You could put all the empty nute bottles you wanted out with the trash, and you'd not get a bust from that (still a horrible idea, though). It's evidence of a plant that will get you in shit.
=========================================

It's not illegal to have an indoor garden, just as it's not illegal to have an outdoor garden. The only thing that's illegal is the plant that you're growing. Make sure that it's impossible for the police to find out what plant you actually are growing, and you should be okay. Ever seen those police interviews from TV where they say something along the lines of "We've busted 2 growhouses in this court of 20 homes, and we know that at least 6 more are growops as well." and yet they don't bust them, and the growers just keep on going in those 6 houses without fear... why? Because they have no evidence that cements that it's a pot growing operation.

Flir doesn't prove that you're growing pot. Almost no power company can tell when you use power, your meter is like an odometer on your car... either way, a high bill doesn't prove that you're growing pot. There are certainly other things that you can do to protect your garden (not having wind chimes made of used 1000 watt bulbs is safer than having them) but these 5 rules are what will keep you safe- if you don't breach any one of them, then only terrible circumstances could lead to a bust. Keep the proof of your pot growing locked up in your growroom and in your head, and you've done the most important things that you can to prevent a bust. Make 'em work for it, don't do their work for them.
