View Full Version : Planning a holiday, who wants to go?

Hoi everyone!

Welp I’m at it again.... Dreaming about the next Euro Holiday.
Sad to say but Darla will not be joining me this trip...... she has plans for Dizney.
So... thought I’d ask round, see if anyone would care for a journey or even meet up ‘Somewhere’ in Europe along the way.

Kinda pondering a couple different plans right now..... A short trip to Amsterdam for 10-12 days.
Or a long trip, about 35 days, stopping in A’Dam, Prague, a couple of spots in Switzerland and a couple areas in Spain.
Also pondering a couple of different times to go…Either in Late November/ early December, just after the High Times Cannabis Cup.
Or start off the 2008 New Year with a real bang! If you’ve ever been to A’Dam for New years or have heard about how the Dutch celebrate New Years, you know what I’m talking about.
But if you’ve never heard the stories, let me say this..... It’s a 4th of July Grand Finale, except EVERYONE is in charge of lighting their own! Actually this goes on for days.... fireworks blazing down the streets and alleyways.... Ya gotta be quick! :courtjester:
On New years Eve in the city center the smoke is so thick that you can only see a meter or two around you. Dam Square is packed full of people...... World class DJ’s jamming....... bands.... it's a wild time fersur!
:mosh:

Oh but wait Fred, what would all of this cost me?

To do a 10-12 day Solo Trip to A’Dam would run about $1,600 to $2,500 depending on departure city and taste in hotel and food.... And how much “Extra Cash” you’ll need.
If there are two or more in the party, it will probably cost about $1,400 to $2,300 per person.
And yes those prices include airfare and extra’s, private room, food, etc.

A 35 day Solo Trip would probably run from $4,500 to $6,000..... Flight, rooms, food, train, and extra’s.

Not saying a trip couldn’t be done cheaper then the above prices... just all depends on luxuries, amenities, comforts and privacy a person requires.

Some of you may be thinking, Gebus that’s expensive! And some thinking, Gawd Damn that’s cheap!
I hear ya… I hear ya........ It’s both, expensive and cheap....... look where you’re at and what you’re doing. Just avoid the tourist traps, fares, prices.... know where to look, know where to go.... It’s just living life, ya know? Except in a different country.

Anyway... I'm going with yas er with-out yas! :taunt:
Just thought I’d offer.

Plenty of time to plan and save, and to get a Passport if you dont already have one.

great idea, a smokers tour.
The mrs and I were in Rotterdam a few years back for New Years, good times. But it's soooooooo cold. Won't be able to make it there this year unless she chucks me out!

So lets see if you can be persuaded to take some sunshine

ahhhh, the dream of being able to get a passport, without the irs stopping me.
i would love to go to europe.
or brazil, or japan, or china, or bali, or columbia, or costa rica, or ireland....
but especially amsterdam.
unfortunately, my country has no intention of letting me leave.
i think mexico was my last trip out of the u.s. for a while (at least until they complete the nau and erase the borders....).
or maybe i'll wake up tax exempt one day.....

Thanks for the best wishes everyone!

Burnsy - More like, SON OF A BITCH... the holiday is over already? And I'm just getting started!
Welp to get from Spain.... I'd prefer to fly into Barcelona, as it's a long train ride from Switzerland or Amsterdam.... looooong!!!
But cant rule out a train either... havta figure out where, when, etc first.
I've seen some cheap flights to Barcelona from Geneve and Amsterdam..... depends on the day for the cheapest fare. Best to book well in advance for the cheapest fare and the days you want.
Lotta details to work out yet.... just wanna see if anyone may be interested in coming along and how far they're willing to go and how long they'd wanna stay.

Well Becky.... one day I plan to make it to the UK fer a visit. But would prefer to spend the entire holiday on "The Island". Now...... 'IF' I could extend this holiday out to say like 6-7 weeks....... even 8 weeks..... I'd be in the UK fersur!
I like to spend atleast 5 days in one area when visiting.... more even. Worst part about holidays is traveling! Time..... seems like ya spend most of it getting to the places you wanna see.
But then hey... it's not that far of a Hop Skip and a Jump for you to come over to A'Dam for the week-end either.... now is it! hehehe
So, we'll see you there then? LOL!

Hey Sombro..... yes... two of those places are on my list this time around.
Figure on seeing Madrid and Barcelona.... spending 4 or 5 days in each.... flying back home from either one, not sure which yet.
Really looking forward to a 5 week stay this time around... but we'll see how the finances go. The way I have it figured now it'll run about $4,800..... $5,300 tops.
Which shouldnt be a problem gathering up over the next 6 months.

Of course I'm also thinking of just Spain or Amsterdam or Switzerland. Staying in just one of those places for like 14-17 days..... doing little traveling around Europe, but instead just hanging out. Save a shitload of money that way, not buying train tickets, airfare to other cities.
Just fly into one city.. drop your bag and go!
Get a room for two weeks, with kitchen access, hit up the grocery store. Dialed in!!
That would be a really inexpensive trip there... maybe $1,700 buks total... less even.

Spain would definetly be different as I've never been before. Dunno much Spanish either... and have been told it's best to know a little once your Off The Beaten Path in Spain.
Guess I know enuf to eat and order beer, what else do you need ta know!?
I'll havta start paying closer attention to the signs at the stores.... in both English and Spanish here now. Maybe have my buddies teach me a little bit too.

Still in the planning stages.... we'll see.

Gunna do the "Lite Ruck" again this time round. Extra shoes, couple pants, few shirts, and a buncha socks and underwear!...... 23 pounds or less.
Got this Euro packing down to a science now I think.

Hey Fred
Iberia and American offer a direct flight to where you're going from Madrid, I'd take Valium though, get an older plane and the seats are small. Don't tell anyone but you can book in 24hrs early to reserve a seat in the emergency exit.

A flight from Holland to Madrid or Barcelona will cost 50-70 euro if you book early enough. Let me know if you need links.

Don't bother speaking Spanish in Barcelona, they'll reply in english and make you feel like a tool. La lingua madre is not well recieved there. In Madrid you can get by with just Cafe Spanish, and at the tourist sites and in the very centre english will be fine. I don't want to dissuade you from learning a new language, it's a very rewarding experience. And in Madrid at least people will appreciate you making the effort.

See you then!

Thanks fer the info Sombro…. All links are much appreciated too. Drop me a PM if you would please.

Spain it is! See how easy that was… just like stickin’ seeds in the soil!
As a matter of fact Sombro… why don’t ya go ahead and pop a few in for me!

So that’s Arrival into Amsterdam, then on to Central & Southern Switzerland, moving to Barcelona, followed by Madrid. Hummmm, where else?
Maybe not Prague this time round…ponders for several moments… actually could spend a good month just visiting the places listed.

Checks calendar…

25 nites with two days for the trans flights…

Checks Eurail Passes…

$500 for 4 countries, 5 days of travel.
Bet I could do a little better finding cheap flights… A’Dam to Geneve or Basel even better. Then from Geneve to Barcelona. Flying would cut a few hours off each of those journey’s too. But still have some train traveling to do too… more pondering needed.

Does quick calculation…

$750 – R/T Trans Flight
$500 – Euro Travel
$1,125 – Room, @ $45 per night
$375 – Food, @ $15 per day
$875 – Other; sights, drinks, extra’s, @ $35 per day
$3,625 total

Thinkin’ it could be done for $3,500 buks… find a few good deals on the travel portion. The rooms, food and extra’s is averaged at $95 per day… some days spend $75, other days maybe $120, depending…

Hummmmm.......

Welp.... plans are coming along for a 16 nite visit to Spain... mid January 2008.
I've cut down time and cost for the Euro Trip for a couple of reasons.... Darla extended our stay at Dizney over X-Mas. We also found a deal on 07-07-07 for a short Vegas trip in November. AND..... Darla is wanting to go to Europe in March of 2009.

Anyhow.... Spain it is this time round.... Madrid and the Southern Adalucia area. Looking at renting an inexpensive 3 bedroom townhouse in a small village just a short drive from the coast for 10 dayz. Theres gunna be a couple people from HGB show up for a short stay as well. Really looking forward to that!!!
I'll also be spending a total of 4 nitez in Madrid visiting and checking out the sights. I'm sure Darla and I will be returning to Madrid in 2009 so this will also be a "Scouting Venture".

The offer still stands..... anyone else wanna join in? Still plenty of time.... 21 weeks anyway.

Yes flights are extremely cheap from the UK.... I hate you guys!!!! :p

Other then flights Europe can be cheap or expensive, depending on the traveler.
Of course the exchange rate is appauling for the USA traveler.... but bargins can still be found. Especially if you do a group rate thing.

Southern Spain is an inexpensive destination with many historical sites, good weather during the Off Season.....FREE Tapas at many of the local bars(Snacks):eat:..... mountains and the ocean..... HASH & POT!

Germany is a little more expensive..... much to see and do.... smoke can be hard to hunt down.... damned good beer though!!!

Switzerland can be expensive depending on where you stay, what you wanna see, etc.... smoke is not to bad to find..... lotta stoners from all over the world there!:smoke1:

The Nederlands can be very expensive, not counting the Coffeeshops, they have the highest fuel prices, and the hotels can be a bit pricey too. But hey tis a GRAND place for a holiday fersur! I'll be returning many times in the future.
AMSTERDAM!!

France..... Paris, whatever.... <extreme sarcasm!
Cheap enuf tho... just not my kinda city.
I do wanna make it over to Normandy tho.... and Southern France....... and I've been to Strasbough too, gorgeous city along the Rhine river!
