Salutations
some of you may know me, and some of you may not. If not do not despair, for I have returned with a brand new grow.
The reason i mention others knowing me, is due to my restricted growing schedules.
I too am fighting the battle of the free weed, but where better to start than with your self :D
hehe, now that im done ranting, here we go...
Location:
1 Room, roughly 5m x 3m
Grow:
Strictly organic (biobizznes)
Strain:
undetermined (and thats not some funky strain hehe)
quantity:
40-50 ladies
duration:
6 months (2 crops)
Setup:
3 x 600W cool-tube (air cooled by RVK150 intake and RVK125 out)
1 x carbon filter together with an RVK125
1 x RVK125 for general room air intake
1 x Oscillating fan
1 x 2-tube cool white reflector for vegging minimally.
Right, here's the idea.
If you look on the diagram below ull see the basic idea of the setup...light distribution, mylar on all surfaces affected by the light, propper air circulation and what not.
I've done this lovely hobby for a while now, only am forced to grow at a larger scale since i cant keep a grow room up for too long (due to riskiness), so i usually make em a bit sized. it allows me to smoke for longer hehe :D
anyways...
So my set up is pretty much there (not up...hence the lack of pics)...now to worry about the strain.
The budget is there to go all out fem seeds...but what?
ive had my eyes on quite a few strains, but i wana keep the strains limited to maybe 3 max, else it'll get chaotic and me no like chaotic.
ive been thinkin ppp maybe?
I'm just as much inclined to get quality as quantity, so im not too limited in choice.
what would be great if any of you happy chappies could suggest a few nice strains that produce nice yields under my current conditions and ofcourse quality buds.
This is the reason the size of the plants as well as the quantity is yet unsure.
though, i did generalize the space as much as possible, meaning that i have plenty of space to work with.
Ceiling space is more than enough, round 3.5 meters which would allow for sativa or indica strains.
So yeah, the produce of a week worth of shopping and thinking before your eyes.

Soil type: Canna Terra Professional Seed Mix - for seedlings and
Canna Professional Organic Soil Mix - for the main pots
The strains i went for are
40xPPP (fems) , 10xK2 and 10xWhite Rhino to tuck in as fillers :p
the 40 ppp will be the main grow as you may have gathered, and the K2 and WR will make for potential clones for the second run.
thats the rough idea anyways :)

anyways, bit of mylar, blocking the window...a drink, few tokes on some herb, and i called it a day...
so im still waitin for the soil and seeds and i shall update you with the necessary when i get them, should have the room done by then :)

back again
been at it a bit every now and again so here's the progress...
I first found myself with a corner of equipment and looked a bit stumped

So i thought id get stuck into it and make a really ugly hole with my plaster saw to attempt at finding a stud..

I had to make the hole bigger and bigger till i could fit my hand through it to feel the lovely insides of fiberglass insulation and dusty what not until i reached a beam with the tips of my fingers, hooray!
Anyways, finding the other beams is easy when you have the first, just measure 16 inches and thats where the other beams will be :)
So i attached the lights with noisy chain (thats how i like it :p )

And made sure it was all fixed properly to remove any worry in the future.
Same for the RVK150 which cools the 3 lights as seen below

For those that are interested, the RVK150 draws air from the sealed off window, since i left the window open enough to let plenty of air in but no rain at all.
I recon its best this way since it wouldn't be as effective if i were to draw air from and extract it into the attic...
Although i have that open available to me as a back-up plan.
So now what's left is sorting out the light proof business by making partitions within the room.
As you can see I took a slightly different approach as to how my lights are set up, not because i felt like it, but i used the studs mainly and they restricted the other lay out.
Anyways, I hope to get it done sometime soon so we can pop these beans and grow some stuff, all this DIY is doin my head it lol
Oh before I go, one more shot of these delightful little lamps...
its the most compact and handy design ive seen, even better than the jetstream things. I believe they can be used as vertical grow lamps too!

And yet another update :)
This update was meant to happen on Wednesday...but i had shit to do so here we go.
I still need to sort out the carbon filter, and some better ventilation for the room, but i figured since the babies are still...erm, babies, i wont need to worry much about it at the moment.
Besides, its just a matter of drilling yet another hole in the ceiling and simply hook up the carbon filter.
I'm not too fussed with smell, since it's not an issue, but it will help keep the general air flow alive, so cant go wrong there.
Ahhhh!
And now for my favorite part...the seed selection.
So i decided against ppp for some reason and thought id go with a classic, one that everybody swears by and recommends...
So i got me 20 feminized Skunk #1 seeds, and a variety pack of all the Seniseeds.com classics such as jack horror, shiva shanti, all the good ones :)
That was 25 seeds, so the seed germ count is 45 seeds if i did my maths correctly...lol

So yeah...this all happened wednesday, so im gonna pop back there today, and grab a picture of the sprouts and see how they went :)
One thing, i had a lot of trouble getting there and coming back since its not immediatley around the corner from me...so I planted all the seeds regardless, in the hope that the peat would be moist enough to aid germination...hopefully all went well, but we'll find out today :)

im quite happy i started this from the beginning and am able to document it.
I've started a few journals here but due to riskiness and stupid pathetic people i had to put a stop to it until now...so you can imagine how excited i am myself :)

I was thinking as i was completing the room that i should give the place a name...instead of calling it 'there' or 'it' or 'the room' lol

so yeah, the sprouts have appeared...in great numbers at that!
the ones that havent shown are probably late sprouters or dead seeds...who knows, but so far, 19/20 skunk#1 have emerged, and the rest is doin pretty damn good as well as you can see...

I tried to help out one of the lil sprouts with a seed shell that was barely cracked...it literaly emerged from the ground without any cotys and just the seed still 80% intact...
Unfortunatley i failed, and ripped the lot off like an idiot :(

If you're wondering what the match stick is for...well the one i fucked up and another one next to it were some sort of a mutant seed...they were attached to each other, almost siamese-looking...
they both germed, when they did i seperated them carefully not slicing through the shell...but i guess only 1 will live...we'll see what it will bring us :)

Left the big lights on the timer to see how the temps react to day temps...

My oh my!
The light cycle is as follows
12(noon) til 12(midnight)...
Well, i put it that way so i can test and see how the climate is within the room...well, the low temps were 79F and high temps were 89.6F
I presume thats good for a day light cycle...
Also bare in mind that now is rather hot as well, everybody has their windows open, sunglasses, women walkin around topless...oh wait, that isnt true :p
but anyways, i suspect these temps are optimal and im rather pleased :)
Considering i've had sooooo much trouble with temp controll in the past, i think this is definatley a winner.
Besides...the fact im being smart about ventings smells and heat, i think i could get away with a night cycle easily, which should drop the high temps by atleast 5 degrees Fahrenheit.
Oh and more good news...3 more seeds have sprouted, one of which is a SK1, so that brings us to a germ and sprout rate of 100% for the SK1 :gthumb:
Now lets hope they are all fems and i can recommend white label seeds to u lot :D
So this concludes our update for today...
I may have some more delicious news for you guys tomorrow, but if not, it'll be with the next picture update :)

When you grow outdoors, which i have never done by the way, i just say this from looking at other plants and 'weeds'...
They are exposed to direct sunlight in given situations, and they thrive, so i see no point in vegging under fluo lights and risk possible stretch but rather make use of the full system...i don't mind the cost too much so thumbs up :)

Yeap, the 1.8k since the first true leaves started forming definatley did them well! although i must say i was a little paranoid hehe :cool:
I think once we get more roots, they gonna skyrocket in growth...
By the way, This Canna soil ROCKS! when in standard soil i had to feed from the first day, this soil really has all the goodness my ladies will need throughout most of the vegetative growth :)

Back again with another pic update
they doin real fine, considering i get to see major developments on every second day...
however, today i had a shitty encounter :(
Had a feckin door mouse in the room chewin away on a few leaves...i saw some strange holes in the soil and wondered if it was me being too brute with the watering last time, but i always use a bottle cap with holes, so that couldnt have been it...
til i saw it creep in 1 of the carboard boxes that was still in the room from the equipment...
i couldnt even be arsed takin pics of it or the damage (which was minimal thank goodness) since i had a ride waitin for me.
Sigh...
Ah well, here are some pics after topping the ladies with some new soil and a nice watering...the damage wasnt extensive at all, but if i hadnt noticed, id be screwed in another 2 days, woulda lost one for sure!

did the mouse arrive to the Cel arage via a hole or do you think you packed it in with the grow supplies ?
could be more or at least a way for more to get in.
been lucky here (knock on wood) but do a search on mice here.... seen em cut down plants with no problem :) first they dig in the dirt a bit, then chomp chomp and timber
I would get a box of that special mice food one gets at hardware stores and see if there's anymore about ;)

I couldnt help it but go back there today to check on the damage or potentially more damage,,,but it seems the threat was that single mouse...like i said, so it seems.
I'll keep a close eye on future developments in order to assess whether there are any more intruders.

So yeah, temps are dandy, plants smell and look potent, and in a few more days, off we go into the realm of 13/11 :)
Oh, gave em some feed today and made an effort to propper PH adjust the water too...damn...20 drops of PH down in 50L of water, atleast now i can just drip and water, nomore fiddlin with the shitty PH test kit (i hate it, i want a digi meter :()
So yeah, consider urselves updated til tomorrow or the day after when i go water em again!

got a bit more bad news...
those fuckin bastard mice been at it again...couldn't take it anymore today.
another 6 plants have been heavily chewed at the bottom of the stem and I cant bare to see any more fuck up.
so i went and got me 1x2's and nailed em along the bottom of the skirting boards in order to cover up the gaps that were present.
they werent mice holes perse, but were definately able to use those to get in.
I also closed the gap under the door.
The next step was to determine where they came from simply from speculating, and i found out that only 1 side of the crop was nibbled, the plants on the other side of the room were untouched.
So i put glue strips (they are damn sticky!) all along that 1 side of the crop, and sprinkled mouse poison pellets all along the sides of the room where i nailed the wood.
Yes they deserve to die, and i hope they burn in hell!

The idea is this...if there was a way for them to get in through the skirting boards, now they are shut out. If they nibble their way through, it will be clearly visible to me. now, if they got in from the door, same story.
but IF they/it are/is still in the room, then they are shut in and will probably fall into a random trap of doom...hopefully.
As for the plants...27 are still absolutely untouched and flourishing in growth,
where as 6 are now injured.
i isolated the injured ones as they werent salvageable, and i dare not clone from them due to hermie risks.
but this allows me to keep a close eye on the rest and see if any more damage occurs, or hope that those shitty little bastards die or fuck off.
Ah well...could be worse right?
Guess ill go smoke a doobie and relax a little now.

Well...you tried to play Mr. Nice...I've tried that in my house in the past as well. They repay me by eating a few bites from 3 apples....I'm thinking...look eat one apple...don't nibble off of all 3!
Once they show no respect and start taking more than they need what are you supposed to do? Time to call in the Glue Guards. I've more an affinity toward the Snapper Guards...but that's just me.

strangely enough, the nibbled plants arent dead, despite the fact the fleshy shit around it got eaten, and that the stem broke from the weight of the leaves...but growth has been stunted like mad...but the rest are doing great.
I guess im keeping myself sane with the idea that this batch is only for me to clone and find a decent specimen to do so. So I'm not so terribly bothered with great loss of yield...still, it sucks to loose em to anything else other than my own fault...and even that sucks lol
Ah well...

Keep the pics coming Cel....I always enjoy them. Maybe you can keep growing the others as an experiment. Just to see what will happen to them. Maybe learn something in the process and nothing really to lose. I had another stop at the cannery today, cant help going there more often now, i enjoy being around them again...feels like old times.
gave em a nice and rich bloom feed today, should boost those bud sites plentily.
as for bud sites ehehehe...i saw atleast 18 out of the remaining 28 carry pubes, the rest didnt show shit...which is a fuckin good sign, cuz these pubes showed from the ones that were NON fem!
i think there needs to be bad in order to contrast the good..who knows, maybe those mice knew wtf they were doin and chomped down the males hehehehe

Note once more, the yellowing on the leaves...there is 1 or 2 fan leaves which have only 1 or 2 blades yellowed...pretty fuckin freaky, they must be in pain :(

you doin pretty damn good yourself, ive been keeping a silent eye on your journal incase i can be of use at one point or another. But i hope i wont need to, which would mean everything goes dandy for you ^_^
and what concerns the smoke report, well the bud is covered in trichs, so lots and lots of dust gathers in a joint.
which is why i tend to keep the buds (atleast whatever i can) in a sift box, u know, with a mesh in it which allows the trichs to fall through and not go to waste, kinda neat hehe. so yes, super trichs, and the high is very mellow.
its pretty much what i was lookin for. Not too harsh on the throat, not a total K.O. buzz, and the urge to do sumtin when im high.
Since i make music, it's my best buddy.
Not to mention Cranky's Sk#1 which was the very first i smoked.
Took me back a while hehe :)
