Das Funky Hovel.... need I say more! :teef:
So on to a new room, this one has a concrete floor even.
Pics below are what this space looks like right now. I'll be tearing down most everything except the 2' x 8' section of shelves along the wall with the window.
This will be used as a seedling/ clone area with plenty of 40 watt flo tubes. Also water storage, ferts, teas, etc.
The entire area containing the Grow Box will house most everything inside, and will measure 6.5' x 8'. The basement has a locked door...... and the Grow Box will be locked as well and also sumwhat burglar proof. Meaning whom ever wants to get inside will havta work for it, and make a lot of noise doing it!
Sledge hammers and power saws would be a plus..... disposing of the bodies. DOH did I just say that! :offtopic:
The main Flower area will be roughly 6.5' x 6'... a curtain will enclose a 5' x 5' corner inside of that..... leaving just enuf room for a small foot path around 2 sides of the Flower area
A bench and plenty of floor space on the outside of the Box for elbow room when it comes to work... Xplting, soil turning, etc.
A small space will be left along one side of the Box for easy access to the power supply panel... also in this back corner will be a small access panel to gain entrance into the far reaches of the Box if need be.
More construction pics and details as the process continues.
Welp... work to get dun.

Construction is coming along… the storage shelves have been sealed-in against the outside brick wall and to the shelves that continue under the stairs. Styrofoam sheeting pieces and caulking were used for this task.
The basic framing for the walls is up… corners and doorways. To maximize room the studs were being ran sideways.
There’s been a few ‘As Build Modifications’, check the updated plan drawing for details.… 6” more room length, main doorway is now angled, seedling/ clone area has been moved to the front top shelve.
Once the build is completed I’ll draw up a ‘Finished Plan’ with better measurements and details…… and lots of pics.:deal:
Thanks a lot for the positive comments everyone! And thank you for all of the support many of you have given thru this new Grow Box build and the journey of life since coming home!:notworth:

Well Phunt if you look really close in that picture.... yelp right thar... you can see the wire that leads to the..... :haha::yikes:
Yea...... I don’t think I’ll be adding the security system to the “Final Detailed Drawing”.:lock::taunt:
Yelp thars a few beans going in the soil.... wanted to get them in a few days ago..... but decided to wait. Space is limited and we don't need any mis-haps!
I'll be posting more about the beans soon. :watch:

Damn fred, if you live in VA, I'd swear I knew where now, lmao. Was last year this time my wife and I were looking for a house to rent and one had a basement area very similar to what you started with. even had a half ass'd door and a mini fridge down there, like it was some ones work room. We almost jumped on it too but if I have a basement I want access from inside the house and not have to go outside every time I worked on the ladies. Once that was rulled out, there was no where in the actual house to put a grow, that wouldnt interfere with normal living.
anyway, lovely space bro, and best of luck to you in there.

In the shots below you can see the frame is up!
However..... I kinda lost track of time yesterday....... now it's completely enclosed, except the doors. All of the gaps in the joists have been filled, the room is now ready for a complete seal job using caulking and expanding foam.
Will get post more pics later today.

OK....... it's all sealed up.... using 5 tubes of caulking and 1 can of Dap expanding foam.... still need to check for light leaks... but it's getting closer to completion!
Will be concentrating on the power tonight... getting the lights set in the seedling/ clone space... hopefully get some seeds in soil tonight too!
Tomorrow the window gets removed and boarded up, vent/ exhaust will be thru here.

The lights in the seedling area are up! Packed 3 shoplights in a 2’X4’ top shelve that’s only 12” high…. Tight fit! Used old waterbed frame corner brackets to mount the light bundle to the joists.
This area uses 6 – 40w fluorescent tubes, enuf space for 70 8oz Solo type cups.
An additional 2 – 40 w tubes can be hung in this area, expanding to over 90 cups if needed.

Getting all moved in and organized now.
5 - 7.5 gal tubs, 1 – 25 gal tub, and 7 gals in pails all full of soil.
http://www.homegrownbud.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=10168&stc=1&d=1176229309
The soil in the 7.5 gal tubs has been composting for over 3 months, this is the stuff that will be used for the upcoming grow.
The 25 gal tub thats tucked in the bottom shelf, covered with other stuff, is full of used soil… additives in this batch so far - stems, leafs, worm casings, eggshells, coffee grinds, sand, sphagnum, small lava rocks, manure.
Also some small amounts, 2 to 3 table spoons of different Espoma ferts – Holly Tone 4-6-4, garden lime, garden gypsum, ammonium sulfate, epsom plus, dried blood, bone meal.
As this was mixed one gal of water was added in to help keep the dust down…… boy was this stuff dry!
After a couple days I’ll turn it again and add a lil more water with some liquid fishy ferts and guanos… also some micro’s.
Turn, turn, turn…….. for the next 3 months!
The 7 gals of soil in the 3 different pails is used soil, just wanted to keep a little soil on hand that is some what free of additives.
Espoma organic fertilizers?
Well it’s what’s available in my area… which happen to be sold at two different locations... they make all of the organic additives needed.
A new “Home Improvement Store” is opening in the next few months, we’ll see what they have to offer. But these Espoma ferts seem to be doing a nice job…. used them for my last grow with fantastic results.
Give their website a browse for more info.

Peeked in on the seeds after work.... out of 5 cups I looked at 2 of them had sprouted.
Couple more days they'll be ready for group pics.;)
As far as the build goes.... It's done!
Here's a few shots from outside the box.... basically I've taken over the entire concrete floor area of the basement (11.5' X 25') as a workshop/ growroom.
There's still lots of details to be worked out in the box and in the shop, those will come as time goes by.
You guys wouldnt believe the amount of work..... and pondering...... that went into this project. The basement was trashed with my old hobby and the wifes old hobby laying about everywhere...... some of this stuff was boxed up, some to the trash. There were other boxes of shite and stuff that shoulda hit the curb long ago!
The old grow room and old hobby areas had to be torn down.... benches, shelves, cabinets, etc.....
Still lots of work to do.... but the bulk of this project is done!
Last night Darla made her first appearance to the basement since this project began..... she couldnt believe the change...... and she really liked the grow box.
Anyway.............. the start at the bottom of the steps/corner of the basement....

The plants have been on 24 hours of light since birth.... started turning the clock back last week, 1/2 an hour per day (subtracing 15 mins Off, adding 15 mins On).
And you can see I finally got the Tyvek up, but still no outter curtain yet, damned if I can find my black plastic.... there's a big ass roll of it round here someplace!
Also you can see I put a few more in another tub (closest to the front), these are a mix of the various strains.

Been giving them a lil 5-1-1 Alaska Fish Ferts every few days, but last night gave them a bit of 9-6-2 Fish & Guano Ferts. Also spraying them with a pinch of epsom salts.
The three plants along the side are WR, one in a 2 gal pail and two in 1 gal pails.
One looks rather droopy, but the other two are doing great.

Hey all!
Early Saturday morning 8 males were culled out...... 4 - BMxWW & 4 - POGxLS..... and looks like a few of the other strains will be on the chopping block later this evening.
The single Reclining Buddha is a Female.
As of last night heights are ranging from 14" to 18"...... they've been receiving a little 9-6-2 fish ferts every few days... and are sparyed once or twice daily with epsom salts to control the slight MG deficiency which is probably caused by hard tap water here. I was really kinda of worried about 15 days into the grow, thinking the soil was too hot as the leaves started curling up badly..... and a few of the plants had dying leaves on the first and/ or second lowest sets.
No worries though the plants seem to be doing great at this point.

Hi Fred....so that was 8 males out of how many total? Also, I'm trying to read back in this thread to understand the overall grow. Seems like you have plants in varying states of growth....anyway you could summarize what you have now? I was reading about 50 something sprouts...I'm assuming the plants you reference in this post are not the same.

Hey BW - Sure... theres 53 that sprouted from the first batch of seeds.
36 of those have been transplanted into tubs or gal pails.
The remaining 17 are still in 8 oz plastic cups... these are ment for an outside grow, but have yet been able to "Plant" then safely.
I have culled 8 of the males out of the 36.
Also there are 22 other sprouts that will be used for an outside grow too.... and maybe some will stay inside too..... depends on the room I have for them. Actually these are not sprouts any longer..... they do grow fast!
All of the plants are on 12/ 12 lighting now.
With any luck I'll be able to planted outside this weekend.
In another week I'll post up the exact numbers and strains..... and which is where; Inside grow, Guerilla grow #1, or Guerilla grow #2.
Lemme grab a few pics..... will post up shortly.

A few pics.....
The 8 oz cups to the front are the 22 young ones.
The plants in cups in the middle are 17 of the 53... the others are in 7 gal tubs or in pails to the back/ far right. Originally there were 8 plants in each 7 gal tub.
You can see that three of the 7 gallon tubs are getting thin.... so far it's looking pretty good with 3 to 4 females being left in each tub.
Now that the garden is starting to thin down it's looking much better..... plenty of room for growth!
Chopped down 1 BMxWW & 1 POGxLS males leaving 3 surfire girlz in each of those two 7 gallon tubs.
Also 4 Cherry Malawi in the 3rd 7 gal tub got the axe this evening.... and 1 White Rhino went by the way side too.
The 4th 7 gal tub has yet to be culled, have ID'd 3 females so far.... pretty sure the other 5 plants are males.

Just tell me to stop asking questions anytime you feel like it Fred! It looks like the plants were about 3-4 weeks old when you started 12/12? Based on previous postings it seems like 4 weeks ago they were sprouting...but I'm assuming you needed atleast a few days/1 week on 12/12 to start sexing the plants....is this correct?
As I think you know I am doing my first grow now and so I'm following this pretty closely so I know what to expect in the future.
Thanks again,

Based on previous postings it seems like 4 weeks ago they were sprouting...but I'm assuming you needed atleast a few days/1 week on 12/12 to start sexing the plants....is this correct?
As I think you know I am doing my first grow now and so I'm following this pretty closely so I know what to expect in the future.
Thanks again,
BW
No probs BW, it's why we're here!
Yes they were 4 weeks old when tured to 12/12..... 4 weeks from the time I put the seeds into dirt that is.
The second batch was 2 weeks from seed.
This is the ninth day of 12/ 12 lighting for all of the plants.

Switched to 12/12 on 02.11.07... terminated 12 males so far, have three more to show sex... they went two dayz using shoplights while on Holiday, didnt want the HPS going with no one around.
Heights are 20" to 25".

THX Brutha!
A dirt floor is perfect... with one exception.... no dancing in the grow room..... creates WAY TOO MUCH DUST!
But seriously tho.... that is easily solved by using old throw rugs in the path way... what works even better is some old vinyl flooring.
With using a dirt floor you dont havta worry bout spillage of water or soil... just sweep it under the rug, hehe so ta speak.
My last set-up, see old GJ "Fred's Funny Farm", that was a dirt floor room. Used that for a couple years.
The main reason I switched into the concrete floor section of the basement was because it has more head room. I'm 6'2" and got tired of the self inflected pain caused by the joists in that other room.

Sure... why the hell not!
I love growing MJ myself.... to watch em change as the weeks go by...... the sweet smell developing... the work that goes into the grow each time......
Growing really gets under your skin after a while.... the weed you yourself grow is the best you've ever smoked.... because you grew it!
(Well OK maybe not the best I've ever smoked is my own... but then I've been around a few different places in my meager life...... but for most people that grow their own, what they grow will be the best they've smoked!)

Welp here’s some bud porn for y’al…
Took different sessions to trim it all up…. 4.5 man hours roughly.
I’d havta say this is probably my best harvest to date… the last harvest was a great one too, but this grow went really well. A bit of lite fert soil and lite teas seemed to do the trick. Also spray down a few times a day… lite Epsom salts now and then too/ rinse.
They did get too tall in veg, waiting for the branches to stagger and a stretch, temps were a concern with an unseasonably warm fall, the 10” exhaust fan was working over time, but it chilled out nicely and temps were kept in the mid 70’s with the aid of small oil type radiant heater with a box fan behind for circulation.
Not sure when the next grow will be started… this should keep me supplied for a while. And of course the room needs a total cleaning, etc. Also time for complete replacement of all bulbs... CHA-CHING! And maybe a new 600 watt MH to fill in the gap at the side of the room, and to use for vegging.
Still have 5 more to chop…. More to come!

THX everyone!
Yea Sticky we moved in a few years back.... everything waz "Contractor Grade" white with brown trim & doors..... but nice stucco walls.
Brown trim & doors WTF! Anyway...... it's finally on my last nerve!
So out with ALL of the brown, rip off the trim..... replace doors, move a couple of while I'm at it.... lay some wood look vinyl floor in the living room, maybe in the dining too... but am thinking of carrying the kitchen tile on into in dining as I have a few ideas for that large space that the tile would go right along with.
The WC job last week is temporary..... just a 'Spice Up'. Gunna gut the whole thing this coming winter..... gunna gut the kitchen this Spring, so one project at a time.
Gunna go with a Mediterranean style through out the house.... but keep it in light tones.... do some nice tile floors, kitchen counter tops and back splashes..... lets just say LOTS OF TILE. Sure it's kind of a bitch to install.... but when it done, IT'S DONE! Price on tile is more er less cheap too, until yas get into the Travertine tiles, then WOW...... use those sparingly!! But the stuff looks AWESOME.
The new WC is gunna be WOW when complete... I want a shower like that commercial where the guy installing the shower takes a shower with all the sparyers and tunes..... That one cracks me up......
Oh and the VW car one, with the car alarm...... That kills me! :halol:
Anyway.... still kinda ponder ideas right now, doodling in PhotoShop.... the weather to turn nicer... and MORE CASH!
Seems to me these company's are awful PROUD of the stuff they sell..... They're killin me! :wow::shake:
Darla asked me the other day where I was going this winter cuz she might wanna go along, cuz she knows I'll, "go somewhere kool."
No Euro trip this year.... and Darla is limited on Dizney trips too.
But am thinking of heading out west this winter for a short trip... *Shrugs* somewhere where theres mountains thats fersur!

LOL brown trim was a big thing for ppl because it hides the dirt lol brown should be used on trim or walls bright colors stand out more and looks much better than brown;) as for tiles they are the best thing to have in the kitchen even for a back splash its the best for that helps prevent mold in the kitchen area and so easy to keep clean can be a pain to install but once you get the flow it goes smooth:rolleyes:
