I understand that some strains or phenotypes display purple on their stems but other than that, what is the cause (it's a deficiency I think) and what is the cure?

Slide down a little from the top and enjoy the read here (http://www.homegrownbud.com/forums/ogfaq/growfaq/97.html)

Sounds like a nitrogn deficiency problem. Are the leaves turning yellow at the bottom and working to the top? The stems may turn purple also. Hope this helps.

Could be too cold, genetic, deficiency, ph lockout...too many variables.

Check the FAQ troubleshooters and if you still need help, post up all your variables with pics if possible...and we can take a stab at it.

i was going to type a big response to this but im way to smashed to put my thought into words.

whats the cause? good question. i don't think their is a cause that we could say is the factor causing colour change. i personally think its genetics, different pheno types etc not an atmosphere or growing conditions that cause this.

whats the cure? well what exactly do you want to cure? is their a negative effect to the plants health and growth when the stems are purple and not the green we all expect? not that i know of. imho i think its normal and natural for plants to have different colours appearing on it as it grows.

well thats my 2 cents on this topic :)
havent checked out that link you posted pie but ill have a geese at it tomorrow.
cheers fellas take it easy

Well....if you start a seed in something inert like rockwool, and don't feed it, the entire stem will turn red before it dies....deficiency.

None of my strong sativa-doms ever show red...unless they are in trouble...on the other hand, almost all my indy-doms have a little red somewhere....so yes, it can be a sign of a problem.

From everything I've read I've gathered that when a plant turns purple, it is a sign of phosphate dif. Whether this dramatically affects the plants or at all is debatable, but it does show that to at least some degree the plant is trying to get as much of that nute as it can, and because it just can't get enough, it turns purple.
Lots of breeders breed purple into thier strains, and my experience has been that a lot of heavy purple strains are just not as potent as more normal colored pot. I've smoked a LOT of purple, as its soo popular, but most of the time the high does not match up the the look and the smell.

This is not to say that there are not some awsome purple strains.

I've noticed the same about my indica's, purple you just can't get of, but the sativa's stay green, so def some strain variation in this topic.

OK, here's a couple pics of 2 plants I have that aren't doing well. These are Blue Rhino clones which I put into used soil with Rev's mixture mixed in. They haven't been doing well at all so I transplanted them into new FFOF soil. I took off pretty much all of the old soil from around their roots during the transplant. Then I watered the shit out of them, ala flush style, and they don't seem to be getting better. It's been a week since the transplant.

As you can see in the pics they are very light green and the stems are very purple.

No Nutes, 400watt HPS. Help?

from the looks of it, they were suffering from nutrient lockout, given the overall yellow look, and slightly curled leaves, and mostly yellow at bottom. Multiple deficieny signs are usually nutrient lockout due to salt build up. Transplanting was a good idea, although they may have been shocked from a huge flush right after losing a lot of soil around the root ball. This will also drive nutrient from your fresh soil, so keep that in mind. I'd let them dry out and hope for the best. keep feeding regularly, and they should get better.

No Nutes,

I would fix this problem first :)

1 week since flush..... there hungry no doubt.... I take it they had a lack of food do to the new soil mix you made? hence the need for x-plant right?

I know you have asked before about bigbloom in veg... well this would be a good time for it I think along with the growbig. Those two together cover almost all plant needs in veg, rest is in the FFOF soil ;)

I was concerned about giving them any food right away with the Ocean Forest soil being so nutrient rich. I'll givum a light dose of the GB and BB and see where we end up.

there clones bro... started life as a mature plant ;)

1 tsp of each per gallon or 3/4 of each if ya a bit concerned ;)

how long they been in veg? if 2-3 weeks and if soil is dry now i would deep feed them at the 1 tsp dose

those ladies look nice and big, I'd worry more about not feeding them.

If they're hungry, feed 'em.. regardless of what soil you're using. :p Gotta go by the plant's rules. I'm an underfeeder too, Drumin, and I say (more than I do) feed 'em. :D Trying to get better at it myelf.

Good luck though. Nice to see you drumin

Guess I'm still a bit gun shy from my bout with over feeding... Balance grasshoppa, balance... :ninja1:
