Anyone have a way to keep deer away from your crop?? A couple of years ago they ate my crop and am going back to same spot and know they are in the area.
Thanks

Never grown outdoors but I hear urine and feces work very well. I have also read about using dog hair, fishing line, and rolls of chicken wire.
Good luck

There are nets that folks use to keep birds out of their berry patches, and there are sprays that one can spray on plants to keep deer away, but not sure those are for edible or smokable plants. I have heard of people using blood meal, but nobody I know has any experience with that. Deer are a bitch, as they only have to visit once or twice to just about wipe you out.
I asked about this with my veggie garden last year. Read tons of stuff, and made a trip to the hydro store....
Zenluntic tolld me to try fishing line :D and I did....
used 4lb test and a few stakes and strong a single line about 2.5 off the ground
when the deer hit this the freak out as it's something they cant see
think my line was broke the first 3-4 night's untill they got the hint and stayed away....had 3-4 MJ plants in the garden as well
this year I will also use it :D
thx brother Zen for that tip ;) it works wonders

The fishing line is a really neat idea. :p
I know they sell sprays at the home depot called: "deer away" or something. I dont know how good it is.

here is a great site on deer troubles. Also, when I lived in the mountains, my aunt always believed in aluminum foil, that catches glints from the sun, hanging from trees and windchimes over the garden. She swore deer were so skittish... but I do recall one that didn't really care about either... the apples on the tree were just too tempting!

Human hair is perfect for keeping a lot of critters away. We used it once to keep coyotes out and it worked like a champ. We had tried cayanne pepper and it had no effect. I just cut my hair and put it in a ziploc baggie and it doesn't take much. I just pull out a little bit and put it on the ground around the problem areas, and it keeps the human scent on it. I have also heard of using dryer sheets, but haven't tried it yet. I like the idea of the hair cuz its not real obvious.

For a stealth grow, then make sure you do not use your own hair because the DNA can be used to show that the grow is yours; they have even used a dog's hair to show ownership of a grow<<the dog belonged to the person so therefore the gro where the dog's hair was found also belonged to the same person. Canna faulty reasoning for many reasons, one being that my dogs used to run for hours in the forest...
I have not used them but maybe motion detectors are good. there are many kinds. Radio Shack sells one that activates a recording of a dog barking and other companies sell ones that activate movement by props or activate ultrasonic sound devices or set off sprinklers or release compressed air or even sound a remote alarm that you can keep in your bedroom or such. The price of these devices can vary widely; I saw some places that charge $80 USD for the scarecrow that shoots water but if you get it from the original manufacturer then it is $19.95
I wonder what the effect of harvesting one of those deer would be. The deer could be butchered at the grow site and the lingering effects of that may be a big deterrent. just spreading around the blood/offal/remains might be as effective and it should work better than the blood of other species. prolly it's like a brick wall for a couple of weeks.
and I will agree that deer can be very bold. I will never forget the time I walked out and saw one feeding in my garden about 20 feet from my alpha Akita. It was a snowy year and the garden must have seemed worth the risk to the deer and maybe the dog figured it was a snowy year and we were done with the garden. both of them sitting within 50 feet of my backdoor and both of them continuing with what they were doing even though I was standing there watching and had flipped on the 1000W floodlight..

The motion detector idea is rather brilliant, but any repetitive sound that's set off would also alert human ears to something going on.
I've used urine to keep deer away from corn.. it works, but you've got to reapply often, wasn't a problem for me because my garden was near the house and I was drinking alot at the time ;)

This year I'm going to do the fishing line and urin, but my buddy with many names says to save up the piss in a jug or bottle, and cut some slits in the top, place a couple around your patch, and refill em when they get empty.
That way the rain won't wash the piss away.
I don't know how much DNA they can get out of rotting fermenting piss
