View Full Version : Propane heaters and costs.

As some may know I have a propane heater for my grow room to help with condensation problems and low outside temps.
Reason for posting this is I've just been able to put a daily cost of £1.42 - $2.47C to run a 1.9KW heater giving constant room temperature of 26 Celcius or 79 Fahrenheit.

These sums are worked out at £20 - $34.80C for a 19KG bottle. It'd work out closer to £1 - $1,74C a day if I had the 30KG but I can't fit one in the shed!

The heater kicks in and out throughout the 24 hr period. I thought this may only happen during dark periods but as the HID lighting triggers the extraction through heat, the heater being floor mounted then picks up the incoming cold air and fires up which starts the viscous circle of both HID and heater keeping extraction kicked in. This week I'll be switching the Prpane off during light hours to see what difference it makes. If I don't save half the cost which I don't expect to, I'll leave it on 24/7 just as I have. I'll update this thread in another two weks to give my findings.

Midwest.
Those sums were on a 14 day basis. The bottles are 19KG and 3ft high.

I was thinking og electric and even bought a tower heater for that purpose, but at laest with the gas I may be getting a little help with the C02 and if there's a power cut I know the plants wont freeze. I've known power cuts last up to 2 days round these parts which to some isn't much, but when you have the technology of an international airport no more than 15 miles away it makes you wonder?

Theres some smaller propane heaters of between 300W-1KW if you didn't need so much, but I'm a bit of an overkill merchant!

Dude i do believe that the burning of propane makes Co2. So in actual fact not only are you heating your grow space you are putting valuable Co2 into your room that your plants need and love!
