View Full Version : Perpetual Scrog, 1st run

Well, after the last few journals and the negative feelings towards the lack of producing substantial amounts of bud per cycle, its time for a change. :D
Earlier this week I accquired some 2" chicken wire (2'x10' roll less than 3 bucks) and cut a piece to fit into flower. Ofcourse out of that entire 20sqft roll, I needed a 18x24 piece, lol atleast theres enough left over for that compost pile;) . The measurement in veg from floor to ceiling is 19". The screen was placed 25" above the floor in flower, but since I have a 6" catch basin in there, the screen is only 19" above finish floor. This means when I transfer from veg to flower, the plants will be touching the screen and immediatly begin being trained when the stretch kicks in.
The screen was installed while there were plants in flower already well above it. The ones further along in flower were fed thru the screen to continue as they were. All the plants within 2 weeks of flower were slightly trained to the screen just to see how they respond.
The focus plant for this first run is WRx. Shes the first to reach to top of veg and was just transplanted lastnight into a 1 gallon container. A few days for the roots to adjust and spread out and she'll go into flower. I've never flowered with this strain before so it should be interesting.
Another mention is I've only really scrogged one time and that was 3 years ago. This will also work as a learning tool for me on what to do next time.
Ok, so heres the plan
This first run will be somewhat irratic. Veg only has 1 plant up to speed right now (WRx) but there are 2 more getting closer. Of the 2 left, 1 is a Skush and the other a White Rhino. Skush does not stretch that much at all in flower so Im doing as much training on her in veg as possible. The Rhino is going to stretch like mad in flower, but is the further of the 2 from the top. The hope is to have WR in flower 1 week to 10 days after WRx goes in, then follow that up with the Skush.
As of now, Im down to 4 strains
Afghani
Golden Skush
White Rhino
White Rhino X(WRxWR)
The hash plant produced 2 hermies from the first 2 seeds. This may sound wasteful, but I had 2 more HP seedlings in veg, and I killed them lastnight. 1 thing I've learned in the past month is I have no time for BS, until AFTER Im up to where I wanna be yield wise. speaking of which, a few breeding projects will be coming up too. WRmale is gonna spread some love:eek:
Without further rambling, heres some pictures of flower with the screen installed (Picture 1 and 2)
And a picture of WRx just before transplanting. When she needs water again, tis time to flower!

shotgun!
I scrogged down my mother plant last night onto a hula hoop I converted into a scrog screen. I also put it under 800 watts.
so we will see what it produces now

Hey vern, man Im really lookin forward to this scrog. I could tell when putting that screen in there just how nice its going to make things. Plus getting away from maintaining so many troublesome plants (yea the solo cup drippers are kicking my arse!!!)and going with larger ones in bigger pots, well theres just so many GOOD things that can happen.
Good luck with your scrog'd momma. I still have a 2'x8' piece of that chicken wire if you need bro. If you dont need it, its just gonna be turned into a round compost bin but if ya need it, its all yours!
Gorilla, neither can I and Im trying to give this as clean and straight forward a shot I can. Good things come to those who work for them!

Hey smalltime, good to have you on board bro
Get flowering clones running on this and you are going to be money.
Glad you say that. Im taking 3 flowering cuttings tonight of WR2, gonna get them rooting and give it a try.
I've also got that afghani working on a reveg, man I hope like hell she makes it. I cant find a single clone of her in veg, and that is one I'd really hate to loose! The reveg is getting a root trim tonight and a new pot.
Elephunt, thanks man. I hope it does too! lol.. stress levels are ok so far:rolleyes:

24 hours under the screen and I was actually a bit shocked opening flower last night. When I left it, there were silver wires with a leaf pokin thru here and there. I come back and theres little white fluffs poppin up all over. Relocated a few branches, tucked a few fans and that was it.
Over in veg, the WRx is impatiently awaiting her turn at flowering. After her transplant she had atleast an inch before hittin the ceiling, and last night I had to criss cross tie her top branches down. So a little pre-trainiing going on.
Had to reset the dripper reservoirs lastnight. The one for the later flowering plants got plain water with a 1/4tsp of epsoms and 1/2tsp CaCl, to 2.5 gallons of water. The early flower res is just starting flowering nutes, it got 3/4 tsp BGO and 1/4 tsp peters, then 1/2tsp epsom salts added to 2.5g water. I had CaCl in the last batch and have found rotating the 2 to work well for me.
I mixed up some nutrients for veg also, to 1 gallon of water I added 1/2 tsp peters and 1/4tsp epsom salts. I also added 2.5ml cytokinin since this mix will be used primarily on WRx and I want her branches bursting out at the switch.
This grow may also have a different touch. I've tripod now and am planning to mark a few spots on the floor so it can be setup in the same place each time I do pictures. When the scrog training starts on WRx I'll try and get daily before and after shots of how its going. Kinda like a time line, and maybe theres someone around here that could convert it into a time lapse?
Anybit, thats all for right now.

Ok Ok, I know I said WRx was going in this weekend and all that jazz. Well, Friday counts as a weekend right? Its just gonna have too, lol.. This morning at 2am she started her first 12hours of darkness. So that makes today flower day 1. I wanted to hold off another few days, but she was hittin her head again in veg (eager lady I like it). I placed her in flower and her top 3 branches brushed the screen on their way in. I think this is gonna be the ticket. :D :D :)
In veg Im at least a week away from having another plant ready to flower, then a week to the next one. There is a minor issue in veg tho, WR#2 is starting to autoflower under 18/6 lighting. The timer has been changed to 21/3 to see if it stops that at all. I hope so, WR2 is a nice smoke.
As for work done lastnight.
Affy reveg got a severe root trimming and a transplant with fresh soil.
I believe I have found a affy clone amongst them all, a tiny one that has been stubborn about reveging for 4 weeks now. Its rooted and got new soil last night.
A flowering clone was taken from WR2 and placed in soil. I'd take 2 but 1 should be sufficient. Im also a little concerned, will she reveg if other clones of that strain are trying to autoflower?
Have a good weekend yall. I'll be back monday with some pictures to cover WRx's training over the weekend.

Picture update
#1 = This was taken Friday night after WRx's first 12 hour dark period. No training was done to WRx after taking this picture, but you'll see in the next set, I had to move a a few buds from the right side to get a good shot on the left.
#2 - This was taken lastnight (sunday) before any training was done. There wasnt much I could do but a small dent was made.
#3- The second Sunday night picture, after training. Like was said, not a whole lot to be trained down, but I did it anyways, lol...
#4 - The entire screen. It sure doesnt look like much like this, but every time I look in there all I see is green! Cant wait til WRx is done stretching and has her side filled in better. I wont know how to react then.
#5 -WR#2 takes up the right side of flower. This is her (minus a few buds of other plants) and how shes filled out. Its all bud from here on for her, and theres high hopes the screen makes good use of all those little budlets.
_______________________________________
First thing to mention, and it feels like a hot dull knife thru the back, The afghani reveg with root trimmin was done too late. I believe I have lost that lady now and my only hope is that 1 that is 'believed' to be afffy, but I've really no clue.:(
I said once before that WR#4 would not be a standard strain for me. Well that may change. Although she doesnt yield for crap (something I hope improves with scrog) the buzz is very strong and long lasting. Smoking 2 bowls in the bong within 20 min time gives my head the same feeling as taking 2 hydrocodones, and quickly relaxes every muscle in my neck that causes me so much pain and irritation. To bad I smoked most of it up yesterday after moving furniture at 2 homes for 2 different women. Uh yeah, guys you know exactly what that means. Who cares if its only 4 pieces of furniture, if you move them bastards 4 times each, it might as well be 16 pieces. And when 2 of them require 4 people to move easily, but theres only 2 people.. yeah yall get where Im going with it. Few tokes of WR4, and 30 min later I was ready to move some more..
Golden Skush was up for a transplant this weekend, but that didnt happen. Apparently I am the heavy for my stepson when his dad is out of town working and this weekend I got called in to "Work the boy!!!" for his deeds during the week. So instead of mixing some more organix into my soil mix as planned, I spent the day making sure he got EVERY last bit of wax off the cars. YUP Q-tips all around every decal or emblem on them, and every bit of dust removed from every crack and crevise on the interiors. The grow is slipping, but the cars look great!! HAHAHA
WRx has been put on the dripper system. In the res is nothing but 3 gallons of water and 2.5ml of CaCl, atleast for now. Im trying a new technique that will be water only thru the drippers and once a week I'll fertilize by top feeding. The last batch of drippers I had going I totally fugged up. I was mixing my fertilizer water full stregnth (1 tsp per gallon) and feedin the plants constantly with it. Not a good idea AT ALL as they all suffered lock-out and yielded poorly because of it.
In the drippers that have been the most successful, I have put the least amount of fertilizer in. Like right now, theres 2 in there dripping. Their res was setup with 3 gallons of water, 3/4tsp of flower ferts and 1/4 tsp of veg ferts ,as well as 1/2tsp of epsom salts. Im not seeing any issues on these plants right now. they look great and are budding up much better then the last few did.
If the new technique doesnt work well, I'll cut back to feeding thru the drip lines at 1/3rd stregnth ferts as that has and is working best for me.
Pictures will continue to be a nightly thing, but wont be posted daily. Maybe a monday post and a friday post to cover scrog growth with pictures. We'll see how it unfolds.
Hope you folks had a good weekend. despite all else, mine was pretty damn good.

Thanks man. I hope it pans out.
The final flush over here should be pretty easy. I've got a 10 gallon storage container that all the plants in flower rest on. Inside of the storage container is a small fountain pump hooked to 3/4" tubing. All the runoff collects in here, and I just pump it out. It can be a pain tho as I've only got 1 gallon milk jugs to pump into, and then have to dump them all individually, but it works.
Another thing on the final flush tho, if you start wheening back on your feedins, 4 weeks before harvest, it should only require a flush 1 week before harvest, or water only for the last 2 weeks.

Plants look nice and healthy, Shadows. Even though you didn't start training until flower started, i think this will definately help to improve your yeilds. Will get the most light to the buds that you can.
I'm a bit unconventional as well. I will be scrogging on top of my screen starting in a week or so. First time training with a screen for me too.
Hoping it works out for the both of us. :p Peace dude.

Hey Thoth, Im learning quickly why most train underneath, its less time consuming. I've never needed to tie branches when training under the screen, so it was a quick adjustment, then on to the next branch. Now its get the twistie tie, bend a doubled up hooked end, pull the branch close to the screen then gently wrap the twisty around, but dont twist it or tie it. So, for training, this on top of the screen method is tedious. Im hoping that the harvest will be much easier tho. Pulling buds back thru the screen, or cutting them all off at the screen is both intensive and damaging to other plants that may be trained around that one being removed.
Right now the screen is split up. The left half is being trained above the screen while the right half is trained under. When I harvest the 2, I'll let ya know which way I prefer overall for ease.
____________________________________________
If you look at the pictures, you'll see that on the left side (where WRx is) I started out by spreading the plant out under the screen. This gave the branches time to get some legnth on them without fear of hittin the lights before I could check back on them. Lastnight, most of those branches were long enough to be pushed back under the screen, the pulled back up to give me the most plant material over the screen. Then each branch was spread out again and then wrapped to the screen, leaving atleast 1/4" between the 2. If anything, all the retraining only took up 15 minutes of the hour I spent staring at the plants, lol..
4 plants got transplanted lastnight. A golden skush went into a 1 gallon, a WR#2 went into a 1 gallon, another WR#2 moved from a solo into a 4x4 and WR#4 moved from a solo to a 4x4. The Golden Skush is the next one to enter flower and will go in next 10 days. The WR#2 I hope will be going in to flower in another 3 weeks, so she can get 1 more transplant into 2 gallons, before hand.
The scrog has things shaping up nicely. I can really see where this is going now, and where it will take me later. The only thing left to work out is the timing. Its close now with WR#2 and WRx at 2 weeks apart, then the GS will go in and be 2 weeks off WRx. See, not far off thru this point and I've even got plans for one 2 weeks after that. The cycle looks like its there and will work out very well, just now its all on me to do things right.
BTW, just an aside, I removed a WR#2 in a solo cup from under the screen lastnight. I really had no idea how much bud she had on her. Nothing to go dancing in the street about, just enough to make me say "Damn, wasnt expecting that". It'll make for a tasty sac this weekend, lol.
Later yall,

Not much changed in the past 48 hours. All the transplanties seem to be handling it just fine. Both the WR and the GS have put on new growth since it took place and GS is gettin much closer to the top of veg. Timing looks to be working out for her just fine. Which means the WR#2 behind her will be on time also. Now, if only the yields are where they need be, lol.
Training continues on WRx, but pictures have been at a stand still. Shes worrying me a little, tomorrow will be day 7 of flower and I swear it looks like the stretch is coming to a close. I'd like atleast another week out of her so that those exposed sites can extend themselves from the branches some.
Having only 2 plants in flower, and both on a very slow steady drip, has really been nice. Talk about hassle free. Apart from the 25 min I spend each night staring at the budsites, I dont spend any time in there. Basically open the door, check pot weights, adjust a few ties on WRx and make sure the drip emitters are drippin.
Notes for those that want to use a gravity feed drip system with soil.
-First and formost soil airation is the key. My normal soil to perlite ratio is 4 cups soil to 1 cup perlite. For the drip system, its 4 cups soil to 2 cups perlite.
-Nutrition, since there is no pump to have on a timer, the drip is constant. This means that feeding will be too. This grow is using standard soil nutrients found at any local garden center. The package says that 1 tsp per gallon is full stregnth. If used that way with this, you will surely burn your plants. The mix being used is actually closer to 1tsp per 3 gallons and the plants seem to like it just fine.
-Drip speed. Believe it or not, faster is not better. We've prepared the soil for constant moisture by adding extra perlite, over watering is not an issue for 2 reasons, 1 being the added perlite and 2 being the act of water dropping to the soil and splashing really airates it well. A fast drip will ensure more airated water, but its not really needed. The drip speed needs to be as slow as possible, without allowing the pot to dry out. Why? well, why not? Dripping 3 gallons of water thru the soil in 24 hours provides no faster growth then dripping thru 3 gallons over the course of 4 days and it saves a ton on nutrients and water. Truth be told, I have not noticed a difference in catch basin water level over the past 2 days, but both reservoirs have show a drop in level. So the plants are using most of what is being supplied. little to no waste. (and whats better , no dumping of the catch basin nightly!!!)
-Last thing that comes to mind is drip head angle. This is just to make determining the drip speed possible. With the stakes, the dripper will build a puddle on top, then begin to run down the side of the stake and you see no drip. Well that could be a constant flow of water and you not see it, so your res drains well before you expect it to. If you position the drip head perpendicular to the soil, it will be 100% easier to watch the drip form and fall. I like about 5-7 seconds between drips.

Now, for the next ladies in the cycle.
Pictures 1&2 are Golden Skush in veg. She got a light feeding lastnight that had a (shhh) dash of cytokinin in it. bring on the branches.
Pictures 3 &4 are a WR#2 in veg. Well, that was in veg. If you read earlier, you'd know that I had plans for the Skush to be the next one into flower. I've changed plans to put this WR2 in first for 2 reasons
1) WR2 stretches like crazy and should fill in the empty spots in the screen easily
2) Skush is not much of a stretcher, thus I want more plant before puttin her to flower. if WR2 sits much longer, She'll need the whole screen, lol..
So mark the calander, Today is now
WR#2 in bud = Week 4
WRx in bud = Day 7
WR#2 (2) in bud = Day 1
The skush will get to wait until the older WR2 comes down. So 2-4 weeks and she goes in. Ahhh things are looking UP!^^^
hey bro,
is there any chance of slip'n a root ball out on one of the drip feed girls?
if so I would love to see a good close up
been wonder'n on this setup and watch'n too, thx for the detailed post on how to set the drip ;)

Sure CB, I can do that, but its gonna have to wait til a harvest. All the solo drippers are either in reveg, or gone leaving me with just the 3 plants in flower, which are tied into the screen.
__________________________________
Today will start day 10 of flower for WRx. Needless to say, I believe I am done training her. The past 2 days have provided 1" of growth, so she is definitly slowing down. Anything from here should be strictly bud growth above the screen. She looks good, having started flower just touching the screen, she has now filled up 60-75% of her half of it. Little bud sites scattered here and there. All thats left to do is keep her healthy thru harvest! ( and make sure my stash stays up to par til that day comes!)
The WR#2 that went in last week (on day 3 of flower now) is just reaching the screen, thanks to the jungle she had to fight around underneath. Im not worried in the least tho, the other WR2 was forming buds when her training started and I still got substantial above screen bud sites.
I am finding the garden paced alot more like I want it to be now. Theres still some minor timing issues to work out, but their impact wont be known until I get some solid harvest in.

So heres that WRx now. Training is done and the flowers are forming. Im switching her over to the buddin res tonight (shes still on veg ATM)
http://www.homegrownbud.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=8909&stc=1&d=1170768108
Heres a close up of how the branches are connected to the screen. Pretty easy to use now that I have a clue of what works.
http://www.homegrownbud.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=8914&stc=1&d=1170768108
An up shot on that same spot. See the branch from the pic above in this picture? Lower on her is another tie, this one is under the screen so I could pull it closer to the plant.
http://www.homegrownbud.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=8917&stc=1&d=1170769076
Then ofcourse, WR#2 that sits to the right. I had to manipulate a few of her branches around to allow for the next WR#2 beside her (see the fresh sprig in there) to get good lighting.
http://www.homegrownbud.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=8915&stc=1&d=1170769076
Theres a few other misc pictures but these seem to show whats going on pretty well. WRx has really filled in her space well IMO. Especially given the short time that she stretched. Im sure theres a tad more height from her but I've gotten all the good stuff for now.
With that all done, nothing to do but smoke a fatty and wait for crystals to start popping up.
WCQ, my friend, you will never be late to the party. Everybody knows it doesnt start until you show up!

Well, it was as simple as undoing the twisty around WR#2 that held her drip head and twisting it around WRx's base. Done. Checked the res and added 2 gallons of plain water back in. If she's lookin hungrey I'll toss in 1/2 tsp of flower ferts and a dash of CaCl.
Just for my records, 7 days ago both reservoirs were filled to 2.75 gallons each. Lastnight was my first add back of 2 gallons to 1 and 1 gallon to the other. In total I've pumped 1 gallon of water out of the catch basin. So around 2 gallons consumed by the plants in that time period. Sketchy #'s at best but I'd call it a good estimate.
WR#2, who had her food line removed, is now on her final flush cycle. Yes, still plenty of time for her to go and choppin now will create a lull later but I'll have to deal with that when the time comes. No drip line for the flush, it will be hand maintained because I like a dry period or 2 before harvest. no reason to back it up, I just do. lol... (Oh damn CB, in order for me to get a good representative shot of the roots to show how they are handling the constant moisture of the soil, it would only make sense to take the pictures before she experiences a dry period. I'll see if I can lift her in the screen to take a shot or 2 tonight.)
That damn Golden Skush in veg, WTF am I gonna do there? She was already hittin her head last week, so I trained the tallest top over. Now 2 of the 3 shorter branches are doing the same thing. Tonight Im pullin her out and training over those 2 tops as well. Theres no screen room for her in flower until I chop something down. I'd consider topping her to be rooted, but as of now I've got 2 GS plants reveggin and wont need clones.
Speaking of reveggin, anybody here grow strictly with Reveg'd plants? like never clone just reveg and go? What about flowering clones? any strict users of those?

Well, last night Trichs were finally visible on WRx. Starting on the smallest of the bud leaves, but starting thick.
Lastnight marks 13 days in, and she coughed up another 1/2" of stretch. I dont know about the rest of you, but Im a bud pincher, lol.. Right now when the buds are in the simplest phase of their developement I like to give the lower ones a little squish to judge their density. These I'd definitly say have a much stronger indica structure, feels like a dried stem in the center. FYI, WR#1 (which I thought was awesome bud) was this same way in early developement.
Its obvious that my flushing on WR#2 is quite a bit early. Overnight veins on the upper fans took that purple hue and I could see it radiating out between the veins on leaf itself. Shes apparently demanding alot more P then the flush is allowing, lol - go figure-lol. No regrets on this end tho, Im quite impressed at what the last few days has done for her.
That GS in veg I's bitchin about, problem solved. Shes now 4" away with her tallest branch. Im gonna boost the hell out of the cyto on this chick. The secondary growth on her main stems is just impressive, damn near stacked looking, If I can only get all that level on the screen, lol.. I'll take her up to 4ml cyto per gallon instead of the 2 I've been doing. By the time she goes to flower that should be an awesome bush in a 1 gallon pot, :)

Damn the pictures, and I had a bunch of them too. Forgot to bring my stuff with me tho so nothing to put up right now. I will say my eyes are getting HUGE with anticipation on WRx. I counted lastnight, theres 11 sites 3" or better above the screen and 4-5 that are less then that, but no less then 1.5". There are absolutely no branches under the screen that are not above it also. 1 or 2 leaves below the screen are showing some mild discolorizations, almost like a MG deficiency, there is some leaf edge curl showing up so maybe there is a connection. I'll give some epsom in the res tonight.
Looks like the end of the line for WR#2. Lastnight I flushed her soil out with frigidly cold water (yes on purpose) and tonight its chop time. Why the frigid water tho? I mean I avoid it all thru the growing season, why now?
About 2 years ago I read a thread about shocking the plant to increase trich production. One of the things that would do this "shock" was cold feet. After reading it, the next plant I harvested got the cold feet treatment. I packed an inch of ice on top of her soil and let that melt into it. The next day the buds looked sparklier (if thats a word). I blew it off, coincidence chance. I've done it a few other times, either with ice or just really cold tap water and each time I've seen a change in the trich coverage. Now, I wont say this definitly works, theres still a good chance that what I was/am "seeing" was only what I was hoping to see. But I do put this out there for others to try and 1 night of cold feet wont kill the plant. Who knows, your perception may be swayed also..
Ok, lastnight I made a video of my plants on my digi cam. I've seen where somebody took such a video and turned it into a GIF that could be posted in a forum. Is there such a somebody here that can do that kind of thing? I've given up on the time lapse idea but Im liking the movie one. suggestions?

Hey shadows. Are you sure they turned a video into a gif, as opposed to a bunch of pictures into a gif? I only ask because I would imagine turning a bunch of pictures into a gif would be easier. There are plenty of programs you can download that will put a few pictures after each other and animate it.
and a dash of CaCl.
Could i ask the source? How much clorine goes with that Ca?

Hey Thoth, Im pretty sure it was a video. Hell maybe it was a video and I thought it had been converted to something else? dunno, but as far as you know, theres no way to upload a short video clip on here is there?
Pie, I use that same source for Ca. I havnt seen any issues from using it @ 1ml per gallon. Maybe I should be concerned about that Cl in it, but to be totally honest if I dont see a toxicity issue I dont care. Also, the CaCl isnt used constantly. It'll run in the res for a week, then not for a week. ON the weeks I dont use it, I like to run Mg. I always have issues using the 2 together.
(edit- Just remember'd Pie, Mynameis (at GC) uses Prestone Heat as his CaCl source. I dont remember the amount he uses but he says it works great and a jug of it will last a life time, lol)
Vern, the darkness has never been used over here, I've wanted to just never had a grow that would adapt it. Like you tho, I've seen others do it and claim it works. The cold feet thing, I wish I could give you a better idea of the amount of ice to use. Just enough to chill her down a few hours, but not so much that she goes into a deep freeeze, lol.

CaCl2 will always have the same ratio of Ca to Cl, no matter the product so if you want a source of Ca with out the Cl you will need to look to other salts. calcium sulfate and calcium nitrate are the two I would look towards. calcium oxide is another source of Ca you could consider.

There is also a short video showing some springtails walking along the edge of my pots. Thats one I really want to get up because I see people all the time asking about bugs in soil, and a picture doesnt show their activity.
I downloaded WinAviVideoConverter from Cnet (or download.com) and would you believe that they allowed some one to put the Authorization Code in their customer review? Yea, I didnt either, then imagine my surprise when the AC was actually a good one! A good thing about that program, is if I want to I could convert the entire video into 2mb portions.

Hey Profound, looking thru that video I'd say that grower has an issue for sure. As usual with soil, a flush should be done. If its PH fluctuation and it JUST started showing up, its not your soil mix (unless there is some real slow release lime that just opened up and skyrocketed your PH) its from over feeding. And if its just plain ole over feeding, well in either case a flush will solve it. The first day or 2 after the flush the plants may still show an increase in damage, dont flip out just give them water until the lowest set of leaves want to pull off easily, then go back to fertilizing them.
Now, that is all based on what i know with chem nutes, if you've over loaded your soil with organics and mixed it too hot, well maybe the Rev would have a better idea.
Speaking of over feeding, I did it :o . To WRx. Not terribly but she had some lower leaves that were looking alot like -Mg, area between veins becoming yellow splotchy. And Mg was put into the last res. The fact that they got worse says that the soil is preventing uptake. So, 2 gallons of warm water thru her soil (and I can tell ya, if I had Pee'd the color of the flush water I'd still be at the hospital!!) and then her res and the other res was topped up with fresh water.
(In the future, the reservoirs will go back to water only and I'll be hand feeding them once a week)

Busy has been the catch phrase around the shadows lately. For some reason, having less to do in the garden means I have MORE to do outside of it. Go figure.
So here's where we stand on WRx, no pictures but some on the way. Last week I over ferted her and started the flush cycle. Friday night she was looking worse, to the point that I was really concerned about my decision to flush. I fought back the urge to fiddle with her and waited it out. Good thing I did, saturday she looked the same which meant she wasnt getting any worse and sunday night she dropped a few fans very easily. Now its time to start fertilizing again, this time tho hand feeding only.
An unfortunate event has taken place, 2 buds off of WRx got sacrificed over the weekend for stash supplimentation. The whole damn plant almost came down after that tho!! The unfortunate event turned into a damn fine reason to be happy, because at 3.5 weeks Im satisfied. Intense uppity buzz right now cause she so young, but powerful and fast. The flavor, oh shit the flavor. Im a BIG time Berry fan and this lady sits on my pallete like nothing else. I've had some close in taste, but nothing as clear as this one. WRx is sure to be a favorite come chop time. And her clone, well she just put herself into special treatment status!
All else seems to be on track. 3 transplants to do tonight and feeding time in flower. Looks like I'll be needing 5 gallons of top up for the drips this time. I'll also be vac'ing out the sediment in my reservoirs. Havning fun, and relaxing on this one.

Hey Gr8, whats going on bro? World still got you running crazy?
Pro, yanno, the only damage she has really dealt with thus far was a light over ferting from feeding constantly and the wrath of my scissors.
Speaking of which, after lastnight, she was reduced to only 3 main buds and today Im considering just chopping her down so this next round can get in there, ya see its kind of overtaking veg. 2 little bushes 16" tall and a 7" round ball of branches on top. Im burning leaves nightly on the CFLs and the 1 thats WR2 is currently growing up into my exhaust opening. She needs to get in flower, and WR4 a week later. That'll put me at similar harvest dates for both plants.
Those 2 plants (WR2 and WR4) in the small containers did find new homes in 1 gallon totes Monday night. Since I think I've decided that WRx has to fall tonight, as soon as WR2 needs water again she's going into flower. WR2 is a stretchy one, big time, but she buds up solid. Another clone of her occupies the back right corner of flower and as the days go past, her buds are becoming more and more plentiful.
This Journal is on the down swing now. The right side of the cabinet will be ready to chop in 4-5 weeks and that will end the first run on this Perpetual Scrog. At this point, I kick myself daily for not doing SCROG sooner. The idea has only crossed 1000 times, but I always said "awe hell I can accomplish that with training". Truth is, I couldnt and didnt. Another hold up was my desire to make the solo cup deal work, and it would have but theres no way I want to have 60+ plants at my home and it would have taken that to do it. It was fun tho, and with CB doing it also has shown alot of growers that pot size is not the limitin factor it was once believed to be.
Burn on fer me yall,

Well the deed was done, man it looks soooo empty there where WRx was, sorta. WR2 went in immediatly after and the 3 ties that kept her knotty were removed. Already, she has growth tips thru the screen and I can bet that in 2 weeks time, her 1/4 of it will be filled in tight.
Smoked some more of WRx lastnight and damn that shit keeps getting better and needed a proper testing:D . IMO there is only 1 way to test a weeds potency
Wake - N - Bake
That way, you've not smoked a different strain already and your body is fresh.
Get a bowl and pack it down. Take 2 hits and wait 15-20 min for the effects. If they're not up to par, take a third hit and so on. If I have to go past the third hit while testing that strain goes bye bye. With that said
Most recent wake-n-bake with WRx results
Packed bowl at 650 this morning. By 7am I had taken 2hits. Within the exhale of the second hit I could feel the rush coming on. 10 min later and the second rush came on, caught me totally by surprise (it didnt do that lastnight after smoking schwag). The buzz stayed intense for the first hour and a few times I found that spot on the wall to be so fucking interesting  , yea spaced a little. So here I sit, its 930 and I can still feel the buzz washin about in my head but its not as intense as it was and feels like I'll be getting a smooth let down any minute now. The staying power seems to be ok with her and the buzz (being this early) is really a jump starter to the day.

This would be that WR2 that just entered flower. See how shes already fighting thru the screen and has only had 1 12hour night? Being able to train in veg means no wasted time veggin a screen half full. Also, consider that each plant only has to fill in a 10x12 area. Doesnt take much

The White Rhino was a gift from Smalltime a while back. Nirvana is the breeder. To be 100% honest, besides the hermies I have been very happy with the buds from them. All have had a distinct berry flavor and a very good buzz. Now, I did wind up with 4 hermies out of 6 beans (the other 4 I killed with damping off) and 1 of the hermies didnt show until after it had been male for 6+ months (whos pollen was spread on another WR giving me WRx)

We need to figure out at which point of training that you go in and thin out some of the undergrowth. Kinda like lolly popping SOG plants get all the energy going into the buds.
once you get the screen filled in the light isn't effectively getting to the lower leaves.
Looking good otherwise.
Good smoke report.

Thanks man, I've been trying to but I have a hard time removing bud without it being for the purpose of smoke. I got in there last night and removed all but 1 branck on Affy that was 3-4" below the screen, and left a bit of smaller popcorn on her for a reveg attempt after harvest. The 1 branch I left comes off tonight when Im transplanting the next plants to prep for flower. They've got 3-4 weeks of veg left.

Good luck with those Profound. If you get one that is heavy heavy indica watch it closely. My WR1 I feel was that way, and once it got late enough in flower some pink showed up. would have loved to let her go and see how much pink there would be, but as always, stash calls..
And if you get a nice WR male, lemme know we may need to talk!
Sunday night the last plant ready to go in flowe (WR4) went in. Her ties were removed and she was set in place. Lastnight she was a very happy lookin lady!
WR2 ( that was put in just last week) is getting into her stretch now. This is going to be the right time to hit her with cytokinin. Get all those extra branchs to the screen.
The GS in flower is just doing her thing and budding up like a champ. Im loving it, really I am, lol.. Lots of budsites on her too. The right side of flower is just awesome.
Speaking of the right side, I've got some great news!! The plant to the rear of that side, I've been calling WR2. Im wrong, way way way wrong!! Its not that berrish WR2 at all, its that wonderfully fruity lady Afghani, that I thought was long gone. So fuggin happy to see she's not and to see her all covered in buds and crystals! ahhh, on a day like this, who needs weed?? lmao..

Got me some jiffy pellets today, a small bag of potting soil and a few other odds and ends. Little bit of work to be done tonight.
Lastweek I was happy I had managed some how in my stoned state of being to mis label and there fore keep a strain that I truly enjoyed, Afghani. VERY shortly after that I came home to find that my entire bedroom reeked of skunk. This wouldnt have been a huge deal, but last weekend was the 15yo's weekend and there is/was no way for me to replace the carbon before it happened. Affy had to fall. 2 days of hanging and the skunk aroma was gone. Now the downside to that is the same I've been facing, when cut that fuggin early it hasnt packed on ANY weight. What should have been around 20 grams dry came in around 10g dry and its burnin way to fast.
Doing my best to see that the same fate does not befall the Golden Skush in there now, but seems to be the way it goes.
Seeing how this is doing, I am thinking about fitting 2 more plants in flower on rotation. 6 plants with 2 chopped every 3 weeks sounds alot better then 2 cut every 4-5 weeks. Plus the screen still has plenty of space left for more buds with 4 in there full of flowers.

Man, what a night. I spent around 45 min cleaning out and retaggin everything in veg. Time to know where I stand on strains once again. Heres the veg rundown
Golden Skush - 2 plants
WRx - 1 rooting cutting, 1 growin plant and 1 reveg'd
WR4 - 2 plants
WR2 - 1 plant, will be taking a clone from the flowering plant soon, so Im certain the genetics
Affy - 1 plant, 1 reveg
WRmale - the confused bitch.... I've still got one, and its still female flowers top to bottom. dunno WTF, but she/its going in flower soon. I'll be cloning it too.
My next cycle is a little screwed now. The 2 plants I have planned for it are the WRmale?? and an Affy that was uncovered lastnight during the clearing. The problem is, I dont know that WRm is gonna stay a female thru flower if it does, thats great but if not its a hole in production. The other thing is Affy is a stinker and beyond 4 weeks flower is to much for the odor control. So the next batch could be an excellent outcome, or another boulder in the road.
There were a few transplants that took place too. Both the next cycle girls got potted up, the affy and WRm. After seeing the room that was left, the WRx plant got a new home.
I've kind of shot my own foot here. By reveggin the affy and the WRx in their 1 gallon totes, a lot of space in veg has been compromised. Until something transitions out of veg its stuck. Nobody can be transplanted. So from here on, no more whole plant reveg's. Lesson learned for me.
WCQ, bro I know you reccommended me use that Stump Remover stuff for (I believe) KNO3. I've double checked, and what ever it is my stump remover is supposed to be, it is. The problem is, every time I use it (1/8th tsp per gallon) I get leaf issues. Mostly resembling a lockout of P. Like the roots have been atttacked by pathogens, yanno what I mean? I think my use of that stuff has come to a close, but there is a stump in my yard, guess I could use it for its designed task, duh, lol.. That is unless you have another possible solution. if it helps I do not PH or check the PH of my feedin water, ever, lazy mofo huh?? lol..

at 1/8 teaspoon to the gallon you are giving 21 ppm N and 60 ppm K, so depending on what else you are using, it could be putting you over the limit on either N or K.
By P lockout what do you mean? Purple leaf petoiles? P def?
Like the roots have been attacked by pathogens? Poor root uptake? Immoble nutrients showing def? Droopy leaves(especially new growth)?
trying to see if I know what you mean.
I never check ph myself, but i do like to know what kind of specs the water has when I start adding stuff to it. I check the water test from the municipal or nearby municipal water district.Makes it easier to guess what kind of changes I am making to it. The nitrate will tend to raise medium pH over time and will raise solution pH.
I hate to hear something I recomended is giving you problems. But if it is giving you probs, chunk it. It makes good fireworks (http://inventors.about.com/od/rstartinventions/a/SolidPropellant_3.htm) too.:p

Brand is spectricide.
Right now Im using the Better Gro orchid food (11-35-15) @ 3/4 tsp per gallon
I've gone back to hand watering and have been using a Feed, water, water cycle. Roughly 3 days between.
on 1 water day I add 1ml Cacl (per gallon)
on the other water day I add 1/4tsp epsom salts (per gallon)
When I used the stump remover, the next day spots would show up on the upper older fan leaves. Younger growth would appear limp. Leaves on the bottom portion of the plant would still look healthy and green.
Reading your descriptions of -P or pathogens, makes me wonder what I was really seeing. Immobile micro nutrients?
When I used it on the drippers, I used closer to 1/2tsp for 2.5 gallons. The next day the plants developed the yellow upper leaves with spots and lower leaves wouldnt pull off until brown.
Dunno man. Hittin too hard maybe? Obviously my definitions of plant issues needs to be updated. So you gonna be around a few days for me to pick your brain?

I seem to notice alot of peeps raving about Earth Juce ph down. It is supposed to work in hydro or soil, with synthetics or organics. As I understand it, it is just made of citric acid. Then one day I came across this:
www.groworganic.com/item_PSA350_CitricAcidLb.html
I bet it would work great. Can't say I have tried it though, certainly is cheap. Maybe next winter I will try to go hydro with you guys. Anyway, other than that I am really enjoying the time you put into your posts, and just watching quietly.

I tend to think the issue was already afoot since it was the next day. Seems terribly quick.

That sounds like high salinity causeing low root absorption of water and nutrients to me. I didn't do all the math on your dosages, but will be back this evening to do so.
Do you know what is in your base water?

You know Pi, it could have been. And possibly my minds eye was saying, "Hey dude, you just put Stump Remover on you plant!" and I was just looking for issues to tag to it. Sure wouldn't be the first time I've screwed up, lol.
Do you know what is in your base water?
I pulled the report a year ago and will have to find it again. Thing is, out of tap my water is 80ppm, not some ungodly 400. The last place I lived had similar PPM and was on the same water supply, just further down the line.
By high salinity, you mean high salt content = over fed, correct?

forgot to mention earlier that I've reached the point that I said would be the end of this journal. Last night I arrived once again to a skunk filled room, DAMMIT!!!!! This time I could have gone another week before the chop, as far as stash goes, but the odor was just to much. So GS is hanging by her heels.
Have to say tho, the end yield looks pretty good from her. maybe a half to a oz, wont know for sure because a few weeks ago in a fit of paranoia I twisted my cheap ass postal scales into a knot and tossed them. This would be the same paranoia spike I get anytime a close friend/grower gets busted and in the past 3 weeks I can count 3 that I know that have. fark, lol...
Im not ending my time on this journal just yet, but its closer. Sorry also for the lack of pictures. Can you beleive that my lame ass excuse this time is because last friday I got hooked up on high speed internet at home and have been spending my time playing around
I'll take a few tonight of the GS harvest tho.
later yall and thanks for all the input so far!

Yes, by high salinity I meant high salt content, but not necessarily overfed. High salinity is when the root water has too high salinity for the roots to absorb , it has to do with osmotic pressures or some such jargon. Basically if the roots can't absorb the water, and nutrients with it efficiently, then the symptoms show as defeciency in plant immoble nutrients and droopy leaves. But your fert numbers, don't look too high, other than the chlorine, and your water is clean so...
What percentage CaCl2 is your CaCl2? Is it the 10% BER stop greenlight? If it is then you will need to adjust these calcium and chlorine numbers acordingly, likewise if you are using some other percentage. If you are using near pure CaCl2 then your calcium ppm looks good to me, if you have a lesser percentage solution, then you are probably defecient in Ca.
But then again if it is near pure CaCl2 then you are pushing the chlorine limits like I always did. Which could be causeing high salinity issues. Another point is that high calcium rates are said to help plants deal with higher salinity.
IMHO, your rates on the KNO3 shouldn't be causeing any problems. Your product is a fine white granual, correct? I used it at much higher rates and almost alone in some instances and had nothing but nice green growth after application.
One thing is for sure, you are the best judge of action and reaction on your plants. If you think the stumpremover is causing a problem, remove it from the rotation.

So if its not from over feeding, what would be the source of the high salinity? Would it be time for a proper flush? I tried it on one of my 2 plants and the next day the veins of the lower fan leaves looked like they had been colored a deep deep purple. Leaf stem also very purple. These were both slightly purple before the flush. You think possibly its an underfeeding issue? I've burned a few pretty bad in the past, maybe Im gettin gunshy?

Yes, it is the BER from greenlight. I mixed it in lastnight at 3ml per gallon. should do more or less? in the drip res 4ml for 2.5 gallons was plenty and the calcium sinks would swell up in a matter of days.
IMHO, your rates on the KNO3 shouldn't be causeing any problems. Your product is a fine white granual, correct? I used it at much higher rates and almost alone in some instances and had nothing but nice green growth after application.
yup, fine and white as ... as .... well guess it could be chopped a little finer, lol, but yeah. So, if used alone (im assuming veg or stretch only) what rate do you use it per gallon?
One thing is for sure, you are the best judge of action and reaction on your plants. If you think the stumpremover is causing a problem, remove it from the rotation.
Hey, I trust you man, wouldnt have gotten the stuff otherwise. Its quite possibly the issue is me and my methods once again. Was going over my notes at home and realized this..
Before doing the drippers, the water the plants got would have 24-48 hours to vap off before use. When I went with the drips and reservoirs, it wasnt as necessary to allow the vap off time. So Now Im back to hand watering everything, but still mixing up solution the night its needed. Think my Cl levels could be getting tweaked from this? Im thinking its possible. After that brainstorm, 4 gallons of water was prepped for the week and I'll keep on like this, hopefully seeing some improvements soon!
Thanks again WCQ, good to have ya around bro.

So if its not from over feeding, what would be the source of the high salinity?
It could have been your source water, but you already shot that down with 80 ppm water. Over feeding can cause high salinity, but it is not the only possible cause, is all i meant.
Would it be time for a proper flush?
I don't really like "flushing" unless it is an obvious case of salt accumulation in the medium. And even in that case i like to keep calcium in the flush water to clean the cation exchange sites of any problem cations like sodium and ammonium and because calcium def is so hard to recover from.
Yes, it is the BER from greenlight.
then it should say 10% on it somewhere.?
wait a minute, I am confused again. the greenlight (http://www.greenlightco.com/products/MSDS/Blossom-End%20Rot%20Control.pdf) is 80% CaCl2, the bonide (http://www.bonideproducts.com/msds/pdf/rotstopconc.pdf) is 10%. sorry for my dumbassness.
since your CaCl2 is high percentage, 3 mL/gal is a bit high for a regular dose, ok for an occasional dose though. I would probably use about 1.25 mL/gal as a regular dose, maybe 1.5 mL/gal.
after looking at your fert numbres again, and with you saying you had spots on the upper older fans, I might back off on the P just a bit. try it somewhere around 100 ppm for a while and see how that works. In order to do that you would have to reduce the better grow dose and increase the KNO3 dose.
So, if used alone (im assuming veg or stretch only) what rate do you use it per gallon?
about 2 grams per gal or a short half teaspoon
When I used it alone, it was for a short term. more or less just me playing around with it looking for any reaction from the plants.
Think my Cl levels could be getting tweaked from this? Im thinking its possible.
I suppose it could be causeing problems, but I never worried about it much myself. Although Cl tox shows as rust colored spots somewhat like P tox I believe, but concentrated more along the leaf margins in the begining.
Its hard to say anything worthwhile without pics. i'll have to admit to not following along as closely as i should have. where are all the pics?
Thanks for the kind words.

WCQ, mahn, pictures are waiting on the camera that is currently sitting in north carolina. I did some work there last weekend, took pictures, caught a buzz with dude that was helping and left the camera on the table. :o Turns out, I've got some more work to do out there this weekend, so I'll pick it up then. What started out as me getting a new shower for my mother inlaw, has turned into me redoing the entire bathroom minus the cabinetry. yup, new shower, new underlayment and new flooring. Replacing toilet valves, fixtures and all the plumbing is being swapped from Quest to CPVC. WTF?? all I was doing was buying the tub, lol...
You've been an excellent help. And out of all that great information you're giving me none of it would have helped in this situation. :o :( See, I sat down, started lookin at the plant again. Lower leaves were yellowed with very purple veins. The stem itself has turned purple-ish and very hard half way up the plant. Upper leaves were not a healthy green, more of a 3or4 shades lighter. In the middle of the plant, color was better and had a healthier look.
Now, I gave my feeding for the last time and I saw a hault of the problems, which was the yellowing and spotting of lower fans, and spotting on the uppers. It got me to thinking, maybe its not me over doing the nutes but way under doing them. So their last feeding was done with the following added to 1 gallon of water.
1tsp Better Gro Orchid
1/8th tsp KNO3
2ml CaCl
1/4 tsp epsom salts
2 days after that feeding and  :D . The plant in the left rear looked green again and had a slight growth spurt. The plant to the front of it greened up some and also put on some size. Both are exhibiting much better color up top (I didnt think theyd regain color??) and have a healthier look.
It had occured to me, but never really occured to me that it could be the problem. Sure the lower leaves were yellowing, but they wouldnt release easily. I've always taken that as a sign of over feeding the plant. Where as an underfed one would shed the leaf readily once yellowed. I guess a deficient plant, whether due to a lockout or underfeeding, is going to react the same way. hmm, oh, I know Im just over fucking thinking it!!
Another plant went under the screen lastnight. A WR2. Shes in a smaller pot, like the questionable one, but should do well.
Speaking of the questionable one, I was talking to smalltime the other day and he was kind enough to remind me that there was a period where I really didnt know what clone was what clone. See, I took a bunch at once of different strains and plopped them in the cloner. Then forgot what I put where. heh, Im taggin them now, lol fucking hindsight... So he pointed out that there is a good chance the WRm questionable plant was mislabeled. All I can say is bro, thanks for taking the time to read all this shit I type and not being afraid to point that stuff out. Im a stoner, things like that worry me until I think they are worked out, after that its shit canned.
To bring all that a lot more to point, it is VERY likely that what Im calling the WRmale is actually the WRx. Leaf structure, color and growth are all very similar. Even a stem rub provides a similar aroma. Even in light of that, I'll be watching her closely through flower just in case.
Well, that there wraps this journal up. The scrog rotation is moving from 4 plants to 6, giving me a 10 day cycle between harvest. Currrent veg looks primed for this to work. The drip system is no longer in service and 1 reservoir is coming out of the box and the other will stay in the event I need it.
Smoke it up guys/gals.
Have a good weekend...

Just figure if the affy can slip your mind and you think she is gone, maybe the male just got missed and now you will need to find a new male. I know someone that I just gave 6 WRx and I might be able to get you a male. Unless he gets 6 for 6.
Anyway, they are only at the 3rd node. And the dude is excited. :D spread the love.

Pi guy, the weekend went off without a hitch. Bathroom is finished. Looks GREAT, from my house (1.5 hours away, lol)..
Hey smalltime, the more she grows the more she resembles WRx. Im still having a real hard time accepting that but I will until I see reason to think otherwise. Bud formation is right on time for WRx as is crystal coverage at this stage, which is minimal. If she explodes into crystals in the next 4 days I'll feel certain WRx it is.
CB, man if this cabinet is ever finished, hahaha... I need 2 more years out of it, then its time to build something new!
