These are my first lil speriments. I don't have a ph tester or any other cool toys.
I am using reverse osmosis water because I luckily installed one under the sink a few months ago cuz the water here tastes horrible. I have been turning the light on at 330 am when I get up for work and the mrs turns it off at around 10 pm when she comes to bed. I have been rotating the plant about 4 times a day cuz I don't have the light suspended above it .. (yet) and the plant keeps growing sideways. I planted these 12 days ago. Only 1 has grown as you can see, but there are atleast 1 more trying to pop out. They started with just a regular light, but I have got a grow lamp on them now... made for plants.

my main concern is should I put a lil stake in the plant to keep the stem straight till it grows strong that way. Yesterday I had company show up without calling and had to hide the plants in the closet for almost 3 hours during the light cycle and they went from about 80 degrees in light to just 58 degrees in the dark. then i took them back out and put em under the light and warmth. I am going to build some kind of insulated box to put them in TODAY!

Thanks.

the first pic is about 2 hours after the last one. Only the top of the plant is now turning back to the light.

lights too far away from it and it streached too much ..... it cant hold it's self upright

you need the light over/closer it so it has something to aim at
@ 12 days they should be MUCH larger

what kind of bulb is that?

Don't worry about buying lights that are "made" for plants, Permagrin. Stick with Fluorescent tubes, Compact fluorescents, HPS, or MH.

If only one of your twelve seedings sprouted, and the one that did overstretched; I think you're still in a position where starting over would be a good idea. First grow is tough because you need to prepare and grow at the same time.

Right now i'd say your priorities are getting beans to sprout and getting a light on TOP of the plants. If it were close and above them, they would grow straight up and not as lanky.

Peace.

As soon as I made the post I went to the barn and started making a box to fit in the closet. I measured the closet space and took off with a box in mind..

Its not beautiful, but I made it with scrap lumber I had out there. I used 2 layers of the foam insulation in hopes of it staying warm in there when the lights go out and will be putting a timer on it.I got one when I bought the light.

I am worried that the light that I have is still not good enough because I have to mount it where its at. I can maybe get a short ... under 20 inches fluroescent light, but im worried the fluro doesn't put out enough heat... They usually run cool don't they?

Thanks for the info so far, and theres some growing in there now. I know atleast one is popping out that you can see. I hope a couple more atleast will pop soon. if not I'll transplant some more in there next week. I was under the impression from previous reads that it needs to stay between 70 and 80 deg F. I'm gonna go back and re read the info to see how cool it can get with lights out. thx yall.

edit:... forgot to post the pics... DURRR.... if these pictures aren't good enough lemme know and I'll try to fill requests for info.

box looks nice permagrin. i'm sure that plant will be much happier this way. to answer your initial quesiton, yes i'd stake that plant up. But i'd do it with a transplant to a bigger cup too.

do you plan on finishing those plants in that box?

Gorilla, I suspect it will be about the middle of april...bout 3 mos or so before I can put anything outside and then the temps will still be fairly cool so I wouln't wanna put something that had grown that long in this small of a box out there. the lighting and temps wouln't be right .... atleast thats what I think. I can maybe make the box taller, or make another box later for taller plants. This box is 14 wide 20 long and 20 tall... inches that is.

CB, thats not a fluro light and its hot. I've had to keep the lid off just to keep it at 90 degrees. I am going to go to walmart tomorrow and buy a couple of 18" fluroescents and replace the bulb that is in there now with a compact fluro. I was thinking of putting the fluros going up and down in the middle of the sides.

few more questions....

At what temperature is too much. I have read that optimal is 70 to 80, but is 90 gonna screw it all up?

If I make it taller, how tall does it need to be? I made it to fit in the bottom of a closet, but I can make it bigger if need be.

If there is anything I need to get, that I can get at wallieworld lemme know. I'll check the post at 330 to 4 am in the morning before i head out. I'll go to wal mart before I get home.

thx

Perma, consider a couple things. Unless you are going to do some kind of LST, topping or FIM (some way to keep the plant short) you need to keep in mind that MaryJane will grow up nice and tall. Look through the forums here on grow room design, I think there are other peoples stealth boxes with pictures.

You might also want to consider asking for input BEFORE you go building and doing... It'll save you time and materials! ;)

Thanks Drumin, but I get all stressed out and impatient. I've been reading old posts for about a month now and just couldn't stand it any longer. I didn't plan on making a box to start with. I was just gonna plant and pray to mother earth for a strong weed. :) Well, once I got something coming up I started caring A LOT MORE. I don't have a lot of seeds to start with and well.

I don't know the strain of these. They were just given to me. I was also given about 7 seeds that the guy said were something like a pineapple clusterfuck or something like that. I was friggin stoned out of my mind when he told me and for the life of me can't remember what he said. I do know that it was supposed to be better seeds and they were in a lil ziploc baggie and i don't wanna screw with those seeds till I will be able to have a good setup and then take extra good care of them and put em in the ground outside after getting them started in doors. . . . On a side note. Im happy for the seeds (teach a man to fish kinda thing) but I'm soooooo pissed that he traveled about 2000 miles to visit over xmas holiday and to bring me them and didn't bring any weed. I asked him to bring me some. I would have gladly paid for half a pound of it, or half an ounce, but no. He just brought enough for him to get high and get me high a couple of times.... Yeah I know... cry cry cry. Come a month from now ima have to pick a few leaves for a shit buzz, but itll be better than just drooling  on the plants to water them. :grow: :D Not fishing for sympathy just getting it off my chest.

The box has got to be bigger now. I bought 2 18" 15 watt fluro's and a 42 watt screw in fluro, but the damn 42 watter won't fit into the plant light thing in the pics so i gotta get a lamp plug or demolish the other light. id rather not tear up the new light so i'll just figure something else out cuz I really want to use the 42 watt bulb. The 15 watters won't fit into the box straight, i have to lay them at an angle to get it to work. :GRRR:

Gonna go ahead and pull 2 layers of the foam out and I think the lights will fit then I'll transplant some of the seedlings into the solo cups. Do I need to cut some drain holes in the bottom of the cups. I read a few posts where they were used, but din't remember seeing any holes in them.

thx again.

ps... whats lst and fim ? ty I had planned on topping though.
