How To Transport Cuttings
all you need is:
1.loo roll
2.plastic bottle(any size)
3.scissors
4.cling wrap
just cut off the top of the bottle as shown and then all you have to make sure of is that the wet loo roll plug that the cuttings are wrapped in fits pretty tight into the top of the bottle or the cuttings will fall out.....oh yea and just give a quick spray of water just before you seal up with cling wrap.
thats it....good enough to throw in the post...ya might wanna wack some duk tape on the cling wrap for that though. 2thumbs

Well I don't have any pics but I used to work for a company that did labeling and stuff. They had a client that bought labels for wine bottles. They shipped us bottles filled with water to test labels on. They came in boxes with 10 bottle in them. Inside the box was a styrofoam peice. A top and a bottom half. It was very cool and it never made the move with me to here which I really regret.
Anyhow, The little pots I used to put my clones in after they rooted would fit right down into the bottom perfectly. I then took another peice of plastic and taped it over the top of the pot to keep the dirt from flopping out if I hit any bumps. I did use dixie cups in it one time. All I did was stuff newspaper around the bottom of the dixie cup and it made it ver stabile.
I guess I have to find something new now. lol

Nice work Cranky.
What about those gel pots? I used to see my mother using em years ago. You could see the roots growing through the gel? I remember walking through tropical gardens etc and my mum would pop cuttings into these gel pots that were in her enormous handbag. I was thinking maybe it'd be ideal if only you could stabilise the pot? Obviously there's costs involved unlike your idea Cranky, but for longer hauls you needen't worry about em drying out with these?
Heres a link and some of you may have seen them. http://www.blades-bio.co.uk/gel2root.htm

Have you ever tried that stuff Burnsey?
Looks cool but will it cause problems with the roots if the light gets to them too bad?

GT.
My mother used them for everything. I mean just about every fruit you can think of, tropical plants, tree saplings, house plants blah blah blah. They used to be littered around the windows when I were growing up and like I said, my mother would visit gardens and take cuttings from rare bushes planted by famous folk and bring em home to root.
I think a company like ICI used to make em? FREAK OUT big de ja vue happened then.........
I never seen brown roots so maybe the gel solution filters the UV and Infa-Red rays? Maybe it's worth a bit of investigation?

I found this flora gel stuff seems to be inexpensive for what it makes. Flora gel (http://www.polyinn.com.au/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2&zenid=b22c2ccbbb915c8a8a7a55775076dcf6) Im guessing if you hydrated it with a rooting agent you would get the same effect as the gel 2 root stuff.

Maybe you're onto something MidWest? Have a look at the uses colum in the link? So maybe adding a cutting gel would work?

I've had cuts survive 3 day delivery in nothing more than a saturated paper towel wrapped around the stem. A fresh cut made under water and a li'l Olivias rooting solution..."ta-daaa", an addition to the garden.

2thumbs That is a great idea Cranky!..especially with smaller plastic bottles like you say. Another way ..using the same principle, is to use toilet tissue tubes..wrap the roots gently with a damp paper towel, or w/e, and plug the bottom of the tube..take another dampened paper towel and plug the top of the tube..then wrap the tube in a single piece of press n seal plastic wrap..I say a single piece of press n seal b/c if you start wrapping it numerous times..it can get frustrating trying to undo...which usually means cutting it off..a single layer can be opened much easier..or just regular plastic wrap or a baggie would work too.

Now XzoomD, how would you know about that?? lol.. Oh yeah, with the press-n-seal, dont put it around the leaves, it can/will remove them when taking it off.

I just took a journey with some cuttings last week. I went well prepared the week before that, but it wasn't a good time with other guests around. I visited last week by chance and had the oppourtunity to take 2 cuttings. Anyway, I used warm tap water and lavatorial wipe in a plastic cup. Stuck that in a sealable plastic sleeve and drove for 13 miles, then straight indoors and recut into 6 cuttings where 5 look like having taken. It's now the 5th day and 5 have leaves holding up with one having dropped the first 24 hrs.
I used a plastic sleeve and didn't have the lid option, but it gave an 83% success rate for a short journey.
So far.

i take cuttings in 1"rockwool, stick them in the little dixie cups and pack them as tight as i can into a box. throw a fake label on it, tape it shut and stick it in the back of my car....I make regular trips of 1.5 hours to my friends garden to pick up/deliver cuttings. i've never had a problem with them.

Laundry detergent box. Clones in pellets inside plastic bags then put into box. Box is thrown into laundry hamper, dirty clothes are piled over it. Thrown into back of truck and they go for the wash. Many years of laundry done.

ok here is something i picked up along my journey of growing,
if you need to get clones out into a spot that is hard to get to and you want them planted in the ground, here is your best bet.
get a whole shitload of socks
once your clones r rooted in the rockwooll, take the clone and plant it in the sock with dirt.
ok now take an old hockey stick, and put a whole bunch of little hooks on it
take the socks and hang them on the hockey stick
take the whole thing and put it undera flourescent light, and let the roots fill out the bottom of the sock
alright now its time to go planting
take your hockey sticks, throw them on your shoulder and walk wherever you plan to grow
now all you have to do is take the sock off the hook and plant the whole thing in the ground
the roots will grow right through the sock
it is good for spots that are risky to get to and you want to make 1 trip
1 person can carry over75 clones
so get like 4 people together and you r laughin,

One of my very special personal friends and mentor in my grow adventures happened to pass on 2 clones in solo cups which made the trip just fine in a black garbage bag- which with enough air to keep from crushing. Tricky to keep warm they made it safe and sound with a new home found now under 1k lighting.
Thank you for your "gift" of genetics which is the gift that keeps on giving!
As you know who you are...lol.
Should be a very good Xmas coming up if these things turn into the Santa's Helpers I think they "could be"
I hope truly I have the opportunity to pass on the little things I learn along the way and to "pay forward" as it has been done for me. Till then I have so much to learn and enjoy
