THa s anyone had a PC or laptop that stop recognizing the modem

Here's the story and deal.....Im in an area where there isn't Verizon DSL or Comcast DSL, HughesNet wants way way too much $$$ for internet service some Im reduced to dial up for now.

It's been fine for 2 weeks and now the laptop doesn't recognize the modem anymore.
Says it's not there.

I've rebooted , installed drivers, and even let AOL attempt to correct it for me
Run thru troubleshooting, hardware checks and all.....

Could it be fried ??

ole Toshiba Tecra 9000 Laptop

When you say it doesn't recognize the modem do you mean it doesn't show up in your device manager either? Are you using Windoze XP? does it show up in the "phone and modem options" under control panel?

Is it a pcmcia card or are you connecting via usb?

Have you disconnected and uninstalled the old drivers first? Did you disconnect your modem when first trying to re-install it?

Just had those problems with a spyware as well on my neighbors computer. It went in and turned off all services like plug and play and stuff in XP. Hope that helps you out a little.

It's an interior Modem....something called Toshiba Software Modem AMR.
I got that from when it was working.....
In the device manager I see it listed ....turned it off and back on again too.
The Com Port says 1 also.

Im using good ole Windows 2000:eek:
In the phone and Modem options it's not showing up at all.

GreenMachine....my modem is inside of the Laptop...I didn't uninstall it at all.
I installed the drivers again from the Troubleshooting options under device manager.

I'll be upgrading to XP after I fix this snaff foo.
I've convinced Verizon , some how to come out and servey my area to see why exactly 3000 ft makes their DSL service unavailable. Also I have a friend who's backyard is next to mine that has Verizon DSL so WTF....

hello mate

did you try to download the driver from the Toshiba site or did you reinstll the one that windows had already?

if its stil not working I'd use the driver from Toshiba.

Could be that the modem is knackered, a new pci one shouldn't cost you much if you can't get it sorted.

good luck

Could be the modem is just fried or the drivers are corrupted. I'd try uninstalling the modem drivers and the software for it. Reboot and check to see if it still shows up in the device manager. If it does then you gotta keep trying to get rid of it and reboot until it's gone. Once you reboot with it completely removed the reinstall the drivers and software. I'd try to get the latest drivers off the web too.

If all else fails I have an old Xircom RealPort2 56k pcmcia card still shrink wrapped that was given to me and I never opened. I'll give it to ya.
