What's the best thing you've ever found or downloaded from the net? I used to love looking for new stuff but I think I'm running out of inspiration. Must be my age or the weather or something.

My faves have been (strictly for backup purposes of course)

The film Daywatch, a freaky Russian sci-fi horror thing, a super stripped version of XP that was only about 100M and various clips on U-Tube of 50cent getting bottled off the stage at the Reading festival.

OK,Ive just gone through this shit mid....not up on my torrents like so,

i dl the torrent file(50kb-150kb) then tried to play it in media player.media player say no fukin chance pal:mad:

so i thought,ya must need somit to dl the torrent like torrent software or sumit.so,i did a little search and found this;) uterrent 1.6.

after installing you open ya small torrent file(the 50kb-150kb) in uterrent 1.6 and then that will start to find peers,seeds and start downloading like.

i was in the dark like you...i could be wrong.just d/l'ing a small one now to see it works.

all for backup reasons like;)

if this works i know i gota whole load of back ups that need doing so i guess I'm gonna be busy for a while.

oh and that link of sombros is just a list i think.....i guess ya could grab the tunes all for back up purposes from that site....just do a search and whola;)

dl the torrent file,open it up in utorrent 1.6 and ya off:D

ok a little explanation

as you guessed, Cranks, you need a programme to download the torrents, UTorrent is the one I use, its light on system and network resources but you can also use BitTornado or BitLord

Once installed you can visit the BT sites, there are hundreds of them, the best ones tend to require registration. some that I use frequently are

www.pi-sexy.org
www.thepiratebay.org

they all have search engines , search for what you want and then click on the filename, normally a description of the file is then loaded, somewhere on the page will be the option to download the file, click it and a windows box will appear asking if you want to save or open the file (the small file you tried to open Cranky), open it and it will open your BT client and start looking for seeds and peers of the file.

The speed of the download will depend on
the number of seeds
the speed of your line
having the right ports open.

opening the ports can be a bit of a pain if you've never done that kind of thing before, in the options tab of every BT client you can find the ports the software uses to connect your pc to others who have the file. You need to configure your router to have those ports open. For example UTorrent uses port no 10853.

Your file will download without opening the port but you'll get it faster if it's all configured properly.

the link is to a file with all those 500 tunes, its 2.8Gig so make some room!! the rip quality looks ok, variable bit rate but very little below 192kbps, i've just realised the link is to the spanish version of the site, DESCARGAR ESTE TORRENT is what you need to click on.

I've got a few invites to an invitation only music/software torrent site called Oink that far outperforms the public trackers. PM an email address to me if interested. They've got every album you can think of, and most commercial software you'd ever want. No games, no tv, no movies, no porn.. just music, audio books, ebooks, and applications.

I should point out that on private trackers your ratio must be maintained or you'll be kicked out. Ratio means how much you upload versus download. I can explain this more in detail if necessary.

Please don't ask for one of my few invites if you're not willing to maintain a good ratio, because you'll risk my account, not just your own.

Not to scare you off of torrenting, but I've heard of several people getting threatening letters from various governmental agencies from downloading stuff from public torrent sites (like the pirates bay). From what I've read, it never goes farther than that warning letter, but it theoretically could lead to prosecution.

I've never heard of anyone getting 'noticed' by the man for sticking to private trackers like Oink.. they're just impossible to gain access to if you don't know somebody.
