funny, i'm in the same situation. My norton antivirus has expired and i've just been clicking "Later" when it tells me.
Probably just a waste of computer space now..

you lads need to look on the net for the new certificates for the program you already have, that way you don´t need to replace the antivirus software.
emule or something like that should be able to find it for you.
if you do change the antivirus software it´s most likely best to uninstall the old copy.
update: a quick scoob around the net leads me to believe that Norton is pretty difficult to uninstall, I have however come across some software on a torrent site to remove it all, just put "norton remove" in the search bar of your favourite p2p.
Due to a Chinese virus attack I´m going to have to wipe my pc and start from the beginning again this weekend, what fun.

From my experience Nortons is a resource HOG and doesn't always play well with other programs. I would go with AVG and or Panda or even McAfee. And yes, Nortons is difficult to get it all off your PC. :2cents:

All that expires ( At least for me ) is Norton Antivirus .. Not internet protection, firewalls, alerts..etc. So there really is no rush or need to remove it from one's computer because it is still helpful, right?
Okay, What's the general opinion? What is the best Antivirus/Internet protection program out there? Preferably free, but.. whatcha gonna do.

Norton and McAfee are the anti-christ. They sleep in the same bed as Micro-sucks. I've had more problems with Norton than I have with viruses or spyware. Got a virus from McAfee website a few years back. never went that route again. If you guys don't remember its was that stupid worm. (can't remeber the name of it)
I liked AVG and Anti-Vir. but I use Outlook so I tended more towards Avast and the auto-updating is really nice. Plus its free. AVG required payment to get auto-updates.

my understanding is that AVG actually writes the engines for both McAfee and Norton so why not go with info straight from the horses mouth?
sorry drumin', never had a prob removing Norton as long as i used the Norton unistaller.
I've never had a problem with Norton or McAfee, pretty certin of you use the Norton unistaller you don't have a prob installing other AV apps.
an' grozilla (it's cool bro i know how to spell) You prolly want to get a new subscription for the Norton AV just so's ya don't send me a bug in a PM or sumpin....
Now Vista.... THAT'S a resource hog........

aah Windows Vista, any good? I'm thinking of downloading it to try it out but don't know if I need the headaches.
Just loaded on MacAfee and windows defender, both look very light. Had Kasperski before but it kept slowing the system right down. I kept switching it off, I've always been keen to mortgage the future and the result this time was a virus I picked up from watching soccer on chinese internet tv.

WRONG!!! Shitcan Norton!!! It's pretty much worthless. Google Norton removal tool (it's on the Norton site). you have to use that to completely remove Norton. AVG (free) and Avast, Kaspersy, and Panda are among the best you'll find. I have Avast 4.8 professional (You can download the full version at thepiratebay.com, for test purposes, of course:rotf:). It doesn't let much by. I also use Kasperski. Between the 2, I have only been infected with the annual release of winantivirus (now called Vista AntiVirus 2009) I use these in conjunction with both the microsoft malicious software removal tool and Malwarebytes malware removal tool. Then there's SpyBot and Hijack this, 2 tools no PC should be without.
The Malicious Software removal Tool is one of the "better" things Satan (microsoft) did for us. It had to be easier than answer 20 billion tech support calls due to performance issues. They issue a new ver. every week.
Or you COULD switch to Ubuntu and virtually say goodbye to viruses completely. For windows users, there is a definate learning curve involved, but well worth the effort.

Check out ESET NOD32 antivirus
Actually bought this one, been using it for years now and never had a problem. Done some product testing on some of the other big name AV solutions for clients, but always end up back with NOD... I recommend it to all my clients. friends and family.
Cheers and good greens all around :P
