Well I'd like to add my method of germination which gives me about a 98% germination rate.
If it matters to you, I use bleach to clean all tools needed and used.
Take a small glass clean it.
Add 1/2 cup of pHed tap water if it's a low pH, that's even better since most tap water is about 7.0 to start with.
So take 1/2 glass of tap water. 1 drop of superthrive. (optional)
add 1/2 teaspoon of Hydrogen peroxide (H2o2) for added oxygen to the seeds
cover with a clinging plastic wrap and place somewhere warm and dark.
I place my glass on top of my cablebox or in my dresser drawer and cover with a small dark towel for added stealth and warm toasty temps.
In 24 to 36 hours you should have popped seeds almost completely open.
Give it a try and tell me what you think.2thumbs
EDIT....after much research and a new found love to have seedlings thrive and not have their taproots dissolved. I've reduced the amount of h2o2 and only add 1 drop of superthrive...../EDIT

I used to germ all my seeds with paper towels, this was labor intensive. Everyday I would have to add water to the towels, sometimes the towels would go almost dry. My last few seed crops have been started with just water and it seems to work just fine. One thing I have noticed with water is the main root never seems to get very long no matter how long I leave to seed in the water. So I plant the seeds when I see some white poking out the shell.

Heya Cidium. You know,I once FORGOT about some Topp44 seeds a long while back that I had put in some water and they tap roots got about 2" long. The longest I've ever seen without the other end of the plant comming out so, yea! lol... sorry, morning fog still in the brain.
And the other thing with water germ is that the ones that DO germ seem to be the strongest in the long run... just my experience.
Be good,
GT:p

Naw ...no troubles ....the beans pop almost overnite tho'
Just have your soil ready for the seedlings.
If you're using organic soilless mixes like myself.....
Just have it very very very mild.....
I cooked almost 15 beans before thinking of why my beans wouldn't finish germinating ....WTF was I thinking.

H2o is the only way for me. I have never used any additive to the R/O water though. Might give it a try next.

well the seeds turned out well good, i was so chuffed.... an i planted em in soil, in two pots in mah room, and ive kept 2, 200wat bulbs on em, for 12 hours of light, 12 not, and ive kept the heat at about 28degrees c, yet i cant see em comming through, and well i dont wanna mess em like dig em out etc to see they aint growing, or they are etc and then fuck em up, so i dunno what to do, have i done anything wrong etc, an is there like stuff i can improove on??
cheers,
an is there like stuff i can improove on??
ya bro there is.....
give them seeds 24 hour light not 12/12
or at least 18/6 for the first3-5 weeks like
when your plants are about 1/3 of there max height aload by grow room then go 12/12
what kind of light are you use'n?

well i decided i fucked this up a lil, so i chucked mah old soil, got some new, and i started the H20 process again, while these undergo, ima go to B&Q and pick me up a couple of compact fluorescent, ima get 75wat ones, seein as ima noobie grower, ive been told to start off a bit gentle, also gonna get a time regulator, and then start this again.
hopefully this will go better lol, ^_^

pal.
was reading your article about you changing your grow from soil 2 hydro.Im thinking about a little grow myself in gud old fashioned soil but have been waiting 4 days 4 the seeds 2 germinate.
i put them in some damp tissue put that in an old (clean ) butter box and put them in the cuboard.all thats happened is 5 red dots(5 seeds in the paper) on the paper and 2 of the 5 seeds have cracked.i reqad it would only take 3-5 days 4 the seeds 2 germinate.
do you think its best 2 put them straight in soil/vermiculite or try to get them to germinate ?? the seeds must be good got them from a reputable dealer and they are black label from holland.
Dont think its the seeds just me.i was told about the water before and have tried it a year ago but that was a shit seed i found in a smoke.Do you think it would still work without the chemicals and just old fashioned water.Do i have to put the magic mug in a dark place like the tub???

100% germination isn't always guranteed, however sometimes certain seeds will require a longer period of time to germinate than the others.
If I were you, I would transplant any of the seeds with tails into dirt. So, they may be a day or two ahead of your others; but at least you can be a lot more sure they won't die. Rofl! Juding by my personal dumbass experience, if I leave seeds too long in paper towels, I will forget to water them, they will dry out, and they will die.
good luck. :D

Listen to the G mang :gthumb:
Plant the ones with the tap root and keep the papertowel moist for the others. It could take over week for some to germinate.
Don't be surprized if you don't get 100% germ...
