The reason we BURP (pardon me) our jars whilst curing is to allow the built up gases to escape. :eek: That's right, your cannabis (like almost all other ripening fruits/veggies/etc.) produces ethylene gas to further it's decay (ripening).

Have you ever put a banana or some other unripe fruit in a brown paper bag to speed up ripening? Same principal. The gas that the fruit produces, causes it to get where it needs to be, and beyond if we allow it.....

that's why we open our jars and BURP (oh my, I beg your pardon once more) them to release this gas, allow new air to enter so that the process is slowed and ripening causes sweet flavors and aromas, rather than rotting our budz.
