View Full Version : Poll for Picture Size Limits

Well here is a small Poll to see what people think about the Image sizes for here on HGB. So, look at the images very closely. See which one fits your screen size the best. See if you have to scroll up/down or left/right to view the entire pic and make sure you open the image all the way up because some browsers automatically minimize the image to keep the screen from stretching. After you are sure you know wich image fits your screen size the best, Vote for that size.

I personally like 900 X 600 on my pc the best. It almost completely fills my screen. Really nice to see a fullscreen when your looking at a really nice bud shot.

However, I think 800 X 600 would be best overall as a general setting for everyone.

I went for the 800X800 but for real only the width effects me.I have to scroll up and down and left in right to see the whole shot on all the settings.but the width effects the whole thread size.if a large pic is uploaded then the text stretches also so i end up haveing to scroll back and forth the whole length of the page.

Unfortunately, at 800 wide, they are all off my screen like Midwest.

I have a 17" monitor, which allows an 800 x 600 setting.

I would like to see 600 x 800 the size limit.

Originally at HC.com, the photo size was limited to 800 x 600 (800 is the wide side) and there were shots of fat short plants. It is more important to have tall shots for mj.

They have since gone to 800 x 800 which is better, but requires side scrolling for some. I always post my pics with a 500 - 600 wide because it shows up well, doesn't fill the page, and respects the dial-upper somewhat.

Choose what you want but if I have to read sideways; I don't, and if there is anything to see in a photo off my page, I won't bother to look at it.

Just my dos pesos.

<edit> - Like Mr Burns; I voted none of the above, because there is no 600 x 800.

None of the above.

As I said ion the beginning.=. 600W X 800H would be perect for everyone. It's portrait photography not landscape.

Just who is voting for 800W X 600H? You only need vote if you understand photography and taking pictures of plants in 800W X 600H is completely arse about face. Look at a portrait photograph and see what length is longer? Unless your an inbred and your family are friggin wort hogs your portrait will be taller than its width?

Just a note for all those that don't use the F11 key on their keyboard.

To take advantage of your full screensize press F11. You can restore the screens tools by pressing F11 again.

Once you use it you'll wonder why you never had!

I don't know if it is because I am just now on my first few sips of coffee or what but I really don't understand what you are trying to say. So, if you would straighten me out on your thoughts.

I will tell you my thoughts here on the pic size. I have 3 PC's here at my house. I generally only use this one for my surfing on here. The other one is my sons and the last one is my Laptop. It has a widescreen so it don't really count. Regardless, of all that my thoughts are this. When I am looking at a picture in a thread I do not like to scroll up and down to see the pic. For some reason it just takes all the glamour out of a really nice bud shot. On all three of my PC's the height of 600 fills the screen in normal surfing. I don't like to use F-11 but that is just my personal preferance. 800 height isn't all that bad but in my personal choice it is too tall. As for the width, well 900 is pretty damn good on all of my PC's. 800 wide is pretty good. It is a pretty standard size in my opinion, 800width X 600height that is. Now I also realize we need to keep it at a bearable size for peeps on dial-up. Now just because the Maximum sizes are whatever don't mean you have to use them. If you prefer to do all your pics 600 x 600 or 600 x 400 then that is up to you. What we are trying to do here is see what the general thoughts are on maximum picture size so we can tend to everyones surfing preferances the best we can.

If you prefer an 800 height X 600 width then say so and your votes will be taken. I will try to make a pic of that size here in a minute and stick it up on the poll so you can actually vote in the poll for it. Keep the thoughts coming so we know and understand what we need to do guys. If you don't speak up we don't know what your thinking. But don't make fun of my family like Mr. Burns did.

The 'wort hogs' were in fact an imaginary twist on itself as wort hogs can not read. Nor would they have a frame on the mantle piece with a portrait in. I know this, as a fully grown wort hog would need a pixel area of 500 high, and 11,000 wide and wort hog mantles never excedd 500 pixels wide.
See, you should have thought about it.........

Dredank. I didn't know until I'd been on the net 3 and half years. Something new every day for us all eh?

Where else would you have a 6ft fruit bat fly past your harvest just as you take a pic?
Amazing. 2thumbs

Ahh.... but you need to set the same perameters in each stretch and skew box Cheap. Your fruit should be lookin a bit fitter.............

Is there a settlement on the sizes? It'd just be nice to have plants looking their best when presenting them so huge isn't what I commented on. As my girlie will tell you, my 1ft is only 6 inches in any case. 2thumbs

Good work y'all. Lookin good.

Cheap. Leave the squirrels alone.

Not to change the subject, but while you're all gathered around here....

is there anyway to shade the quote boxes? I mean they have somewhat of a border already, but an old guy like me would enjoy a more clearly defined box. Sorry to be such a bother. :D

I like the 800x800 option. Personally sometimes I crop a shot that comes out at 600x800. With the 800x600 option I'd have to resize down to 350x600 (or so) to post that picture. At that size quality and detail are lost and a good shot is no longer a good shot.

With 800x800 I could post it straight up and save alot of that detail

anyway, just my .02

Mr Burns
11-25-2005, 05:30 AM
How about.................... like Shadow says, but keeping the file size limit. That way you could fit a 600x800 of either compostion as long as was within the file size but not be able to take advantage of the full 800x800?

Well cheap and I spoke about it and we came to the conclusion that 800x800 would be best for now. We will keep an eye on the pics and change accordingly. Just because the size is set to a max of whatever don't mean it has to be used. We are going to play with the file size to try to limit it from being used 100%. So, hopefully it will be sorted out before too long. But thanks to all who put in there 2 cents and voted.
