About when is it natural for plants to begin yellow? For arguments sake, let's use an 8 week strain like Northern lights for example. :D
And, as far as questions about the yellowing: Starts at the bottom? How late do you want to have a lot of green?

well bro its normal to see the yellowing(from the bottom) as early as 3 weeks into veg;) and as for how late in flower...the idea is to get rid of the N late on in flower.ya also use less N duering flowering

So a few yelling and falling leaves, a little more than 3 weeks into flower, is nothing to worry about?
Changed up the nute ratio a bit, tried a 3-2-1 deal like CB suggested. First time I've noticed any yellowing or falling leaves. Just wanted to see if it was timing or what. Considering I added Veg nutes in, more N than bloom nutes, i wouldn't have logically thought this would cause yellowing.
Oh well, just being a curious george..
say G-mang,
the 321 for veg and 123 for flower is just a starting point like ;)
sounds pretty normal for the plant to be drop'n fans at 3 weeks into flower....
just wait till you hit em with that 0-50-30
usally have very few fan leafs left come chop time myself.... if ya got time browse back thru my GJ and check out the pics in flower.... and after the 0-50-30 :D

Just a normal day in the life of a mature female MJ plant there
gorilla.
She just using up the natural chemical stores in her fan leaves.
Sit back and watch the transformation.

I've wondered about this myself actually. Niagra, and G-13, always get yellowed leaves becoming quite pronounced near the end of flowering, but some bubba kush, and catpiss, and trainwreck/afghan, never did this to me. green all the way through. I wonder if I'm simply not giving the yellowed plants someing they need. Or maybe its genetics. I read an article about advanced nutrients that proposed the former, but a lot of books say the latter.

Well, I read a big long discussion on another board (before I found this one) about trimming fan leaves vs. leaving them during flowering. The wisdom seems to be that the leaves store up energy and that the plant uses (which causes the leaves to yellow). Now you could give the plant more nitrogen to keep the leaves green but it seems that nitrogen in the plant can make the buds taste harsh. So if you decrease the N and increase the P and K you'll get better buds and frankly, those yellowing leaves aren't going to be smoked or anything anyway so it doesn't matter that they die off... or so I read anyway... :trust: :newbie: :ciao:
