First of all a big hands up to CB, Cranky and Midwest for getting things sweet. (A bit of arse licking never hurts before asking for a board change 2thumbs) I love all three of you more than chewing me toe nails. 2thumbs
Right you buggers. :buttshake When uploading pics, the sizes are 800 wide by 600 high in JPEG mode, in fact all formats have a higher width allowance compared to the height right? But, were taking pictures of a plant that can be roughly 2-4 times higher than its width? Also, like me, photos are often taken through narrow doors or with many others into narrow cabs.
What I find is I'm sacrificing a large portion of the picture to get it under size and I'd rather not reduce picture quality alone, as this would make a large pic look crap.
So, can the orientation be flipped so allowances were 800 height and 600 width? Would you like a poll on the subject and see how members feel? Or, can it even be done?
Just when you thought you could sit down :woohoo:
I'm off to wash me tongue. :teef:

It's just a case of limits and so on Arnold. 10 times this sites allowance is a file I'd find impossible to upload on any board I know, so I'd check the writing and reasons for failure. You know how it is, we've all slapped our forehead in a homer kinda way? Doh!
If the orientation is flipped in HGB.cm, then it makes for some impressive pictures beating previous and curent boards.
Heres what I mean by my original post. The first picture is the maximum allowance with the current orientation (40% reduction). The second is cropped to near maximum allowance (29% reduction) when correcting the orientation for viewing purposes.

It's my belief that pictures make these boards. Sure were all here to learn and share knowledge, but if it weren't for others pictures I wouldn't have anything to aspire to. Except the centre folds in 'Red Eye' 2thumbs
BNurnsy.
its set at 800x800 and 115k max
will that work ok?
or should i set it for 800hx600w?

as you sazid, burnsy....
D'OH!
it appears that the only way i can save pics from the other site is as bitmaps, which i must convert to jpeg to post.
now i get it.

I'm on dialup and loading huge pics is terrible.
Right. some pics are long and skinny whereas others are short and wide. Can we adjust things so the dimentions are irrelevent and pics are limited by data size alone?

I'm on dialup and loading huge pics is terrible.
i guess that's where it would make sense to not post big pics (like i did above), but only put the thumbnails in the posts......
correct?

will that work ok?
or should i set it for 800hx600w?
I don't know how you and VBulletin are set up storage wise Cheap.
As long as they're well within the screen size it'll look ok.
Personaly think 800H X 600W will work fine and save the total storage in your VB account Cheap.
I didn't realise you were on Dial up Filla. I'm a firm believer that bigger pics are better, but taking myself back to dial up I can understand how frustrating it is and will stick to thumbnails as often as possible. Is Broadband not available to you Filla?

so ya dont have to scroll across or down
Spot on Cranky. Theres nothing worse than stretching a boards width cause it stretches text included. So reading a journal you'll be scrolling from left to right at every line!
Cheap. 800x800 is prfect. That way you can use any orientation of photo yet the max file size limits you to fill the whole slot. In a kinda law obiding kinda way.
I need something.....

Cool pic Mr. Layne. Maybe somebody could do a quick tutorial on how to manipulate images using common software programs. I know that I have had help from both Mr. Burns and Shadow in getting my images posted.

Cranky, Thanks for the Kudos bro.....
I have been playing around with the pic size the last few days.
What I did is this. I uploaded a pic onto HGB in the admin area. I started with a 800Width x 600Height. The width wasn't perfect but O.K. The height was perfect though. But to check it out I set it to 800x800. When I uploaded a pic of 800 height I had to scroll up and down to see the whole pic. So, I came to the conclusion 600 height was optimal. Now for width, I uploaded one that was 1000. This was too big as I had to scroll side to side to see the whole pic. I found 900 width to be optimal. Leaving 900 x 600 the best setting. Then I took into consideration people on dial-up. We didn't want the files to be too big they can't view them or take 2 hours to open a page with pics. So, we came to the conclusion 800 x 600 @115kb would be our start.
I am gonna put the kids to bed then I will post the pics in here for all to see to get my meaning.

Y'all need to remember that smaller monitors can't display the wider pics.
Anything wider than 800 will demand side scrolling on a 17" monitor or smaller.
I vote 600 wide and 800 high or 800 x 800.
What? You say there ain't no election? No vote? Oh:hmmmm: .... never mind.

well after the guys fucking about with pic sizes last night,i still had to scroll across to see the last pic.i then went on the wifes pc to see if it was my monitor but it was the same....i tried changing the monitor settings to see if that would help but nope..it made things go all shitty like the toolbar on the bottom dropped down to far.i then went back to my pc and messed about with monitor settings n that and in the end my monitor was set up wrong.
so like milagro says,if ya on a small monitor ya gonna have to scroll with current pic size if ya on a larger monitor then ya should be ok.
i dont think it should be any bigger width or height than that last pic as it took filla a few mins to open that last page and theres anly a few pics there.
i guess well all just have to go out and buy new monitors:D

Just a thought is there no way we can have a compressed archive and pics get put in the archive after a certain time and a link to the pic put in the post, maybe hell for band width though.
hey guys,
no need to delete pics  I will just expand our storage, but not for a month or so as I'm real busy with a couple of real life projects..... should be good to go with the 5 pic limit for another 200 days like. also been look'n for a place to park the OGfaq as it's quit large in size....
mainly was a bump for me like as i have a ton on my mind right now....
dont delete please
