No I'm not talking about some Star Wars vehicle, I'm talking about the amount of light to give during flowering. Now, I've read that giving longer dark periods (13-14 hours) towards the end of flowering can speed up that process while (arguably) slightly reducing yield; I've also read that giving longer light periods (13 hours) will increase bud size.
So, if this is true can you speed up the initial flowering process by shortening the light period up front and then increase the light for the rest of flowering to get bigger buds?
Everything I read says it takes cannibis about 2 weeks on the 12/12 to realize fall is coming and gear up for flowering. So can you shorten that 2 weeks to maybe one week or 10 days?

A very controversial subject.... with MANY variables.
I've read alot of discussions about this subject, some heated, but have not really experimented with the light cycles enough to give a firm opinion.
For almost two years now my flowering cycle has been at 12 hours 15 minutes of light/ 11 hours 45 minutes of darkness.
Why that amount of time you ask? well jus like your asking.... does it benefit the end result? I dunno if it des er not... as I haven't kept logs/ records..... but this cycle time works for me.
My Logic behind doing this cycle? Well more light is better for the grow right! The end result is about 15 hours more light for the entire grow period of 60 days. But I am hesitant of giving more light time for fear of Hermies... as I've been growing these clone of clones of clones, etc, etc for over two years now... hell going on three years... some things are better jus left alone.
Also, I give 24 of light during the veg period.. if that means anythang at all.
Looking forward to hearing from some others that have messed around with this timing subject.

say drumin,
great post..... tiss a heavly talded about thing on alot of forums indeed....
i think i have probly seen just about every combo of hours over the years
probly every one that replys will have a different answer like ;)
in nature the dark periods slowly increase towards the end of the season
so wouldnt increase'n at the end of flower just confuse the plant make'n it think it is time for veg again?
12/12 all the way for me from what i have seen and read
grow on
wonder what the next peep will have to say :D

I'd avoid making too many drastic changes back and forth on the light cycle. Having longer days late in flower can cause hermaphrodites.
toke it easy :smokin:

I thought about this cause it remnded me of a show i once watched on one of the educational channels.
The program was set in alaska. They were talking about how in alaska they have some of the biggest vegetables. Well the secret was sun light. Since during the summer the sun is out 24 hours a day it allows the plants to grow far more bigger and faster.
The only thing i question is if the quality of the veg is the same?

hi drumin...if you ask me...the only way you can speed up the flowering stage is to get the plant to go from veg mode into flowering mode quicker.cardian rhythms;) look it up bro:)
i will have a few test runs at this one day with infra red lights use for a period of time at lights on and just before lights out.
might be a total waste of time but theres one way to find out i say:cool:
take care bro

wonder what the next peep will have to say :D Bingo, what is the line between flowering and veg???? I don't want to find out during a run so I go with what works. Only time I would change the light schedule if I was running a bigtime Sativa cuz some of them just don't flower at 12/12 and might kick at 11/13 or even 10/14. :o

Thanks for the insight folks.
Wasn't there a thread here somewhere about using infrared? I remember reading about when far red light was useful...
