well?what ya reckons best or find better for vegging???flouros or hids?

i personally think that ya dont need that much light for vegging.i use 3 x 4ft flouros at 38w each.use just the 1 for the first 2 weeks and then all 3 for the final 3rd - 4th week.i always flower after that;)

switch to 400w hps for flower and do fine.

what do you lot find best that works for you peeps?

stay

i have tried many combo's out but the last couple of grows i used both...

4x4 flo's right on top of the plants and the 1k hps about 3 feet above those

I veg with flouro's the twist in kind.I got about 300 watts worth of them for veg but hid all the way on flower.I like the flouro's cause you can almost put them right on top of the plants and no burn.it also helps to keep the nodes tight together.I havent ever used a hid for veg yet,but im sure they have there advantages as well.My little veg area isnt big enough to run one[HID] its only 2ft X2ftXabout 30",It would get way to hot in there.

I use overdriven t8 flouro tubes for the first week or two of veg then move up to hps for a one to three weeks after that. I realy notice a dramatic growth spurt upon moving up to the 250 watt hps. :smokin:

I use 3 - 27W T8 floros and a 4 foot floro with 1 warm bulb and 1 cold bulb for 2 weeks, then I use 2 - 50W CFL's and 2- 35W CFL's for about 3weeks, then I use 1 - 400W MH to finish veging.
For flowering I use a 430W son-argo HPS and the 170W's of CFL's.

I use a 125w daylight envirolight, gives me the closest nodes I've ever had and the only light I haven't tried veging with is normal tubes, this light is brilliant.

we use two, two foot longs, and one of those double round setups. nice coverage and no heat at all. and that's the most important thing in my opinion. no heat while vegging..

i've used both, they both seem to work as well truthfully. at least with our t5 setup. by the way hello all, nice to meet you

i like floros for veg, its easy to control heat and the plants always seem to do great....itd be nice to use a MH one time to see the difference :watch:

My mother clone/box. is 4 spiral florous. @ 42W each. Low heat, love em. but my HPS for flower all the way.

yeah the heat factor is the main thing because if you have a perpetual garden and need a veg space then you have to vent out all of that MH heat, and they make more heat than a HPS

another thing that people say is high heat in veg makes for more males, dont know if its true but i wouldnt risk it :D

well that heat and males thing is just what people say - theres no evidence to back it up.

but like i said, i wouldnt risk it anyways haha :D

plus your plants will grow better without extra heat anyway so its kinda win win with the floros in veg, youll just probably get faster growth with the MH, and some people say youll get tighter internodal spacing but when i grew my plant under a floro i always kept the leaves touching the shop lights and 1-2 inches away from the CFLs and i had some pretty tight internodes

what do you think a good combo is for floro lights? some say 2 blue in each shop light, some say 1 blue one red. some say 2b:1r . i know that most of those CFLs are warm but i wonder if using both light spectrums help

Well, in veg I use Blue bulbs, during flower it's one Blue & one Red tube.

I've never seen blue or red fluoros, are you talking about CFLs or the F40 (4' shoplight) type or both? I'm using "Plant and Aquarium F40T12 Ecolux" fluoros for veg and 400watt HPS for flowering. At least I will when winter comes... ;)

well drummin, when i buy lights at the good ol hardware store, i buy the four foot tube kind, the blue spectrum floros are lable "office and home" and the red spectrum floros are labled "kitchen and bath". i think most of the CFLs are on the red side of the spectrum, but you can get the ones that are on the blue side as well.

hey fred i do the very same thing with floros and put 1cool:1red but always wondered if i could get better results using 1c:1r in veg or if i could get better results in flower if i put in 2 red tubes and no cool, have you ever done that?

For me it's a 400 MH all the more "POWER"
Have considered of late to try some flo's out, still pondering that heat can be a issue if I don't stay on top of it.

1000 hps for flower like I said more "POWER" works awesome but again took me a while to work out the heat issues.

Why use a water pistol, when you can go out and get a water cannon :)

I have used just a hps and a combo of hps and spiral floro's.
The combo seemed to work better, gave the girls a fuller spectrum.
Ran 6 daylight spirals in bathroom lite bars, 3 on each side of the hps.
Definitely had to wear shades while tending to the girls.

yeah im wit the fluoros
only cause they are more cost effective imo
if i didnt allready run a 600 and 400 in flower
id put ma babbies under 400 mh
get em used to the environment strait away
u want fast explosive growth
that comes with m/h and healthy seedlings
