Hey all, I'm new to growing so I'm gonna tell you what I'm doing and hopefully you all can tell me what I'm doing wrong. ;)
I had these 5 seeds hanging around from 2 different types of weed and got 2 of them to germinate.
I planted them in plastic planters with a high quality potting soil (better than the miracle grow stuff).
At night they are under a low hanging 2x4 flouro with two 2x4 flouros that are 8 feet up attached to the ceiling, getting light 24/7.
In the morning I carry them out and leave them in the sun all day.
I give them a good runoff watering every other day and on sundays I feed them some Peter's 20-20-20.
When they reach about 4' tall I plan on reducing the light for flowering and start them on Peter's 10-50-10.
If they both turn out to be males... I guess I'll try making hash and go looking for more seeds. :D
Q. How am I doing so far?
Q. Should I prune off the big fan leaves to give the new growth more access to light?
Q. What is the difference visual difference between the sexes, I've got my magnifying glass ready!
Q. Can anyone tell what type these are just by looking at the difference in the shape of the leaves?
Q. How am I doing so far?
from the look of the plants i would say great :D

nope they are there for a reason ;)
Q. What is the difference visual difference between the sexes, I've got my magnifying glass ready!
boys have balls and girls have pubes

i would say more on the indica side (fat broad leafs)

as compared to the sativa side (skinny long leafs)

all looks great to me

I agree with CB, doesnt sound or look like you're doing anything wrong. Plants look big, healthy, tight, and very green! GJ and good luck on getting two females!

Q. What is LST and scrog? Where can I find info on tieing back correctly?

You need bigger containers IMMEDIENTLY. I recommend AT LEAST 5 gal containers. Make sure they have good drainage.
-If you plan to flower indoors, your gonna need a hell of a lot more light. Since they've been outside you will need an HPS.
-Or my recommedation--leave them outside. That weak light in your closet ain't doin 'em any good anyways. The plants will start to flower in mid-late Aug, and be ready mid-late Oct. Males indicate first by growing "balls" (pollen sacs). The ones that don't grow balls are girls and buds begin to form shortly thereafter.
Or even better, dig 2 3' x 3' holes, re-fill with quality potting soil and transplant them in there. Now you got some weed!

Hey rangerdanger, they are in 5 gal containers that come from a nursery so they have drainage holes. I'm just using the fluoros to keep them growing at night. I'm looking into a 400watt HPS for flowering. ;)

LST = low stress training
scrog = screen of green
lst is done by tieing branches back for ultimate light penatration
scrog is done with a screen, you weave you grow tips threw the screen to acheive a flat canopy of buds.
man there isnt alot of peeps here that scrog or lst for that matter.I know this is not the popular reccomendation but i would search the older sites for that info.I got all my sources from the fallen overgrow and now the gardens cure hosts OG's FAQ,thats where id start.
sorry bro this one slipped threw without an answer.

*hey* sorry fer the slow response Drumin!
I use a scrog method with large gage chicken wire that's set about 9 inches above the soil level. Once a branch has reached it's height limit, to close to the lights, I jus pull the branch down under the wire to the next space. I don't like weaving the brance.... makes it a bitch ta get it out of the wire come harvest time.

If you just pull the branch down through the wire and move it over to the next space aren't you moving them closer to the plant next to it? How does this stunt the vertical growth?

That would be awesome CB, I'd love to see pics of this method in action... sort of like a LST journal? I'd be interested in a scrog journal too. Anyone?

Screen Of Green Basics (ScrOG)
The basic principal behind ScrOG is to allow light to reach the lower bud sites by bending the plant under a screen made of wire, string, netting, etc. This then allows the lower bud sites to be at somewhat of the same level as the top. The screen also helps to separate the longer lower branches so they in turn can receive max light.
With the ScrOG method you don’t have to raise/ lower your light as much, if at all, because what your doing is bending the plant branches so the light reaches more of the bud sites.
What I kinda do is use one of the bud sites (nodes) to hook onto the wire... this holds the branch in place... the top will bend towards the light after about 24 hours.
You really only havta do this for about 4 weeks, once or twice a week, after that the stretch period is about over and the buds really start to fatten up. You may havta adjust your lights jus a lil after week 6.
Here’s some shots of harvested plants… you can really see how the plant has bent under the wire.
Fred
say fredo,
any chance of see'n this in action? :D
havent tried scrog yet and really not sure why

So what stops the the plant from just growing tall through the wire? Do you have to "top" the main branch or do you bend it back down under the wire?

ya just keep pulling it under the screen and popping it up in another opening. The object is to maintain a flat canopy.
