I'm scratching my head, hanging on the edge of deciding weather or not I should grow outdoors. My first step was asking my roomy/grow budy if he wanted to participate in an outdoor grow operation. He stubbornly said NO WAY! He then added how it's just not worth it when you're allready balls deep in growing many indoor hydro plants (which we are) and also the risk factors. Someone finding it, bugs, animals, gas $ to get there, yada yada yada...

<Please, feel free to disagree, defend, and debate on that belief AND most importantly tell me what you believe! Try to sell me on it! Who knows, you just might convince me to start something beutifull that you will eventualy see on homegrownbud.com (or something heart breaking)>

..I still haven't figured out if I want to grow outdoors or not, im definatly looking into it though...your comments are greatly appreciated....

knowledge is power!

everything you ask could be asked by an "Outdoor Grower" to you the indoor grower

why grow indoors .... bugs, THE SMELL, friends visiting/fam/cops/landlord smell'm, the heat, mold, scrubbers, ballasts/bulbs/fans to fail, FIRE ............. BAH!!!!

out can be done AWAY FROM HOME
two or more pounds per plant
no ferts needed
no light/power bill to pay

BTW, I do both and like outdoors so much better

hide one or two plants outdoors to try it out ....... might not be your thing but it cant hurt to try

Good Luck either way you go

I too grow both outdoors and inside and the whole experiance of the high from the herb grown under the sun is way beter than plants grown indoors. With the perfect light spectrum for the plants, the affects of the THC are stronger and more potent IMO :D

To me, there's sooo many reasons I prefer outdoor growing (I've done both indoors and outdoors).
I'm an outdoor kind of guy, into backpacking/camping/fishing, and those things, imo, go hand-in-hand with outdoor guerilla growing.
First off, you have the peace and serenity of nature in a remote location.
Secondly, it's more of an adventure.
3. You can get so much more per plant (although I have to disagree with Fing_57 about "no nutrients needed". Plants need nutrients for maximum yield).
4. As an ex-Forest Ranger, I can assure you that there is very little chance of having an outdoor garden busted (unless it's a plantation or they find booby traps).. if leo's find it, they simply don't have the manpower to stake it out around the clock for up to a week. They'll just chop it and haul it out. Sometimes they don't even bother with small grows--they'll just hack them up and leave them there, especially if they're still in veg. The one exception to this is if they find booby traps.
That's a public safety issue and they WILL stake it out if they find it and the idiot that booby-trapped his garden will be looking at some serious prison time--much more than just having a garden.
Plus, booby traps are counter-productive. Let's say someone goes into your garden with the intent of ripping you off and instead gets a fish hook in the eye.
He'll sure as hell report it when he's in the hospital.
And instead of just losing your plants to a ripper, you're gonna lose them AND go to prison.
5. I often had a grow partner, and we'd combine out plant-tending duties with overnight camp-outs.
How's this sound: hike in, splash around in the stream, later go upsteam and catch a coupla 14" wild native rainbow trout and cook 'em over a bed of coals, get drunk around the campfire, puffing fatties the entire time. Up early the next morn, tend the garden & go home. A mini-vacation every week!
Growing outside it costs me about $8--$15.00 per plant. Few people I know get "2 lbs of more" per plant. My average is approx. 8 oz. dried cured buds per plant. 10 female plants can mean 5 lbs of the best damn pot you'll ever smoked whoo-hoo.
Plus, all that hiking kept me in shape, preventing me from gaining weight even though I tend to pig out a lot.

If you don't like hiking, guerilla growing may not be for you. You need a REMOTE location that's a bit difficult to get to.
And you have to dig holes, which is very difficult in the woods.
It means hauling in potting soil, which is majorly heavy. Something like 50 pounds per 2 cu/ft bag, and you need 1 bag per hole.
It means pounding the dusty trail while all your friends are partying hardily at the beach.
It means 2 trips/week (unless it rains--pot needs water at least 2 x/week).
But come Oct. it's worth it, believe me.
Never having to buy weed--waiting for someone who never shows up, getting ripped off/shorted, always looking for a hook-up, etc.--anymore is a true joy.
And you know what you're getting. I curently have 25 plants in my legal CA. med-mj garden. There's a total of 8 strains--6 old favorites and 2 new ones. So not only do I have a enough weed to last me and the disabled people I also grow for enough weed to last all year but a variety of delicious buds.

Indoor growing is convienent. That's about all I can say about it. You walk a few feet, open a door, pour some water, you're out 5 minutes later.
Where's the adventure in that?

some peeps have no choice like me....

disabilities :(

but i make all my indoor grows an adventure :D from grow'n em upside down to see'n if ya can grow in 1 tablespoon of soil (which you can)

if i want to take my miss's to a tropical resort for a little hanky panky then its just a few feet away..... 82* with a slight breeze and plenty of sun:D

i did get 15 plants outside this year tho but didnt pack anything but the plants... same as fing i used no nute's just the goodness of mother nature....

could care less one way or the other if they make it.....

I'm just a simple farmer like and never run out of killer bud tho ;)

grow on i say but enjoy how simple this plant is to grow

nice thread...really liked what Rangerdanger and Fing had to say. I am so blessed to be able to have my ladies right out the back door, I don't think if I had to grow guerilla I would be able to do it, like CB I am a little limited on the physical endurance it would take to haul all the soil and water needed. I think growing is just like everything else in life...find what pleases you the most by trying different ways. Good luck!

I dont grow outdoors for several reasons, granted there are many advantages to it,but the main reason is time.I live in the middle of town, locations are not readily available and time doesnt permit me to travel except on the weekends.
I have often thought of a small [1 or 2 plants] grow in my yard behind other bushes and such but that is just 2 close to my indoor grow.
Also, Ive found that the more stash i got on hand the more i go threw one way or another,Be it by smokin it or giving it away or whatever.Outdoor growing atleast in my area is seasonal,so the chances of stock piling for the winter are slim in my case.

outdoor grows are very difficult to trap the grower, thats a major incintive in itself.indoor grows however are not, possestion is 9 tenths ya know.Whomever lives in the residence is going to jail labeled a grower wheather it was them or someone they allowed to do it.

I perfer indoor altho the risk levels is elevated, for conveince and control.

I tell them when they veg or flower, when they eat or dont, and all the advantages of being mother nature.
when it rains
when the wind blows and how hard
how hot/cold/and humid it gets
CO2 levels [well not in my case yet, anyways]
limited to pest that I carry in,not many wayword travelers altho sometimes they do show up

I'm working on 3 different paths right now: A) moving 2 potted plants indoors at night. B) growing 4 (was 8) outdoors in a garden and C) I have 5 in veg that are being grown indoors.

I really like the outdoor grow and I think I will always have a spring garden. They are fairly low maintanence and they get so big, mine are over 6ft now and I planted them in june!! :wow:

I think carrying plants (even just 2) outside every morning and inside every night is a bit of a pain but the advantage is a nice yield... maybe in the future I'll pick a clone from the best producer from the indoor grow and carry it in and out (during the summer of course).

Indoor has it's good and bad...

its the cashola, pots, seeds and soil is all you need to grow outdoors.

my setup cost less than 300€ and costs next to nothing to maintain just an almost negligable water cost and 15€ for some fertilizer.

and I can use all the rooms in my house, i´ve total admiration for those that set up complex grow rooms but at the end their weed cost a shedload more than mine.

i also squeak when i walk.

I reckon growing outdoors is better for security purposes. Plus, it gives you something extra to sniff while putting around ;)

I've never had any luck when plantin shit outside and leavin it. Even seeds with taproots never seemed to come up. Never really put that much effort in it though. I did have a plant just grow up in my back yard once and nobody noticed it till it was a couple feet tall. It ended up getting ripped out by my neighbor before I even knew about it.

Great responses in this thread. Everyone has pretty much said what I would have.

Security is an important issue. Not a whole lot of chance of getting caught if you play it safe. Yield is higher (as a general rule). Plus to me its just so much more rewarding like someone said to have to get out put a little sweat into your plants and reap the benefits than just walk down the hall. Also, I do small indoor grows, but i'm WAYYY too paranoid to have 8 or 10 7' females budding in my closet. I'd soil myself everytime someone pulled in my driveway. To each his own though.

$$/bud ratio?

our electric bill goes up about one hundred dollars a month. it's very little compared to how much good meds cost. for what we pay for electric wont even buy a half of good indica sleepy time meds.

Yeah, I would still say that it is much more economical to grow indoor than to buy bud. But, theres a lot more overhead than growing outdoor obviously. Not only the electric bill spike, but the initial investment as well.
