what is a good time i should veg my plants for?and i was wondering if an hps flood light would work for growing or not?

4 weeeks is good, and if you are training and tying down maybe longer. im not sure about the flood light.

You wanna veg your plant for the amount of time that is right for the amount of space you have... the plant will grow 2 - 3 times its size from the time you induce flowering, EI a 2 foot tall plant will be 4 - 6 feet tall by the time it's mature.
And "a HPS flood lamp" I assume you mean the one's from Home Depot, it should work just fine

Yeah amigo no worries on the flood HPS just make sure it's not already worn out. HPS lamps last almost two years before they really start to wane in lumens, in my experience.
Veg time from seed...
It's really important, *if* you want the best results (genetically) from your finished product to go 55 days from seed vegging with most genotypes. Now when growing out a sativa or sativa dominant genotype, you would want to extend that time to closer to 90 days and 90 days is my MINIMUM veg-time from seed for a sativa dominant, and a pure-blood sativa I always veg for 6 months from seed before flowering.
Once I am there I just go with clones since clones are the same age as the plant you took the cuttings from, ya dig?
