im gonna upgrade my grow to a hps light i need to know if you need a special socket or can you use a normal light socket for the bulb

You not only need a different socket, you need a ballast (either remote or built in). There's no way to run an HPS without one.

air cooled is best! i have never grown without my lights being air-cooled and i cant imagine how bad my yield would suffer if i did
