Most will most likely know this one but it's worth a thread for securities sake.
An obvious start is puting the fan in a box, but you can improve on this by making baffles and using a small amount of carpet. Forget egg boxes, it's just not worth the effort!
Make as longer box as is possible and site the fan in the middle. If you're not worried so much about the grow room having extractor motor noise in, you can site the fan nearer to the intake end the box.
Then make the baffles making sure they fit snuggly from the top to the bottom of the box. When cutting the baffle sizes, you shouldn't be able to have a straight line of sight through the box which is what the yellow line represents in the pic.
Covering the baffles is a huge advantage to stealth and if you have enough carpet, cover the whole inside.
Cut a hole in each end attatching the ducting and hey presto, she'll hum like a rolls royce with a lot less reduction in power than you think.
