I was thinkin'
when cannabis is burned through smoking a lot of THC and other cannabinoids are destroyed in this process.
i know through vaporizing the THC is activated, but as I beilieve the THC is activated alone therefore a different high is acheived than smoking:)
also by ingesting cannabis throught he stomach (i.e. eating) there is stronger response as all the cannabinoids are used. But you have to digest it slowly therefore more material/drug is needed.

I have used glass rods and hot metal knives to burn bowls before as i not only detest the taste of Butane, but I try to minimize how much active material is destroyed per bowl:D
any ideas the perfect temp for smoking or ingesting cannabis?
this came up as a result of a homie using a flashy butane torch (2000 degrees F!) to smoke his bowl...
thanks HGBer's!

I may be wrong but I thought you only needed 350. F

Hey I have one of those.. it works great if you can take the whole bowl in one hit.. and like the taste of butane.. :p LOL

hey tan how about using a 5X magifying glass? No butane and prolly close to the right temp. (if fried ants are any indication):D

haha magnify that on a sunny day
well i use a glass rod when i can but i usually just try and cherry the bowl to keep the temps down

hey theanimicneedle,
i was thinking that if burning ruins some of the thc and other cannabinoids, whereas vaporizing would not, then obviously you woul at it within this range of where it vaporizes and burns, more closer to vaporization point that burning point. To find this point, I would take as pure keef as I can get and test it out a vaporizer and find the point where you get some noticeable vaporization, then find the point where the keef starts buring, i.e., turning black. I'm not sure, but when the bud cherries and gives of light, this is due to/called combustion. I believe combustion, which happens at high temperatures, will change the property of the matter, whereas vaporizing simply changes it to the gas states and therfore having the same properties as the solid thc. it may be then that most of the thc vaporizes before it burns when you light it. I learned all about this stuff in schol, but i haven't seen the material in a year or two, so i could have mixed it all up. Hopefully it will provide a starting point if anyone else is inclined to find out more.

I remember reading somewhere that the THC are activated at 106 degrees celcius ;)

Thats 222 degrees farenheit is about the same temp as the boiling point of water. If this is the point where THC is activated then those who make bud butter by boiling it in water, or baking anything over that temp for that matter, would probably lose a significant amount of THC. I've baked bud in the oven to dry out, and I do this at 200 degrees farenheit and dont smell any burnt or vaporized THC. I once accidentally turned it to 420 degrees F, the temp I cook my pizza's at, and smelled it kinda burning and it was at like 350 o 375 degrees F, but there was no signs of burning or vaporizing on the bud; it was still all green. I would think it starts to significantly vaporize around 350 degrees F, but this is not to say it doesn't start activating around 222 degrees F. This may be something to check out because those cooking with bud or making butter could lose some THC in the process. If so, I make cinnamon toast with my butter, maybe better alternative to baking brownies because generally you bake around 350 anyways.
