i was thinking of starting a new grow,i normally grow in multi purpose compost mixed with perlite.well this time im thinking of just using perlite on its own.has any 1 done this before.and will it work?

using a 400w hps

Don't do it. Perlite is meant to be a soil additive, on it's own it is not a suitable growing medium. A good top quality potting soil is always your best bet. That multi purpose compost you mention also sounds good, but I would not use perlite on it's own as a growing medium, not a good idea in my honest opinion. :o

the soil option is probly the best way to go but yes you can grow in just perlite and have seen it done many times.... will need a wick system or drip system setup to keep the roots from drying out as well as a means to support the plant as perlite along doesnt realy give roots much to hold on too

thanx peeps.i think im gonna go with bat guano.a few people have sed its good 2 grow in.has any tried it and wot was the result.
