That's the Question....... Butter or Margerine?

I have made Cannabutter many times in the past and I have always used Stick "Butter". All the recipes I have seen call for it also. But what is to say you have to use butter and not Margerine? When I cook I always use Margerine and not butter unless we are making bread and for some reason margerine won't work, don't ask me why though.....

Is there anyone that has a reason on why you can't use Margerine?

Well tonight I made some Cannabutter with Margerine just to see for myself. I used a couple three ounces of trim, stems, and bud. I have a 5 gallon bucket I keep all this shit in when I harvest. All the leaf, stems, and the small buds left over when I clip the big buds that I don't feel like screwing with. I grabbed one limb that had prolly a 1/2 ounce of bud on it so there is some good stuff going in, in hopes of some good butter.

I have never made butter this quick either. I used about 1/2 pot of hot water, 3/4 cup of Margerine, and my trim. I boiled it for about 30 minutes on low heat with a lid on it then let it cool for about 10 minutes or less, just cool enough to handle without getting burned. I ran it thru a macaroni colinder of the wifes ( she wasn't home hahaha) andthen strained it thru a real fine bag I found that is extremely fine almost like silkscreen but not as tight of a weave. I tossed all that in the fridge and it is cooling as we speak.

So, what am I gonna run into using the Margerine instead of butter?

We'll see........

damn is there that much of a diffrence,lol.I thought margerine and butter was the same,like lard and grease.

Well I just got in from being gone and took a look into the fridge to see my butter. It looks like I will be lucky to get an 1/8th of a cup from it. It's been in the fridge for 4-6 hours so that should be enough time to completely set up. I w ill wait till tomorrow before I do anything to it. I am guessing with margerine there isn't as much fat or whatever in it so a lot of it cooks out. Hell I don't know. I may just take a cup of butter and boil it in some water and see how it sets up with not adding anything else to it.

if you look at the list of ingredients of margarine, you will see there is a good amount of water. take a tablespoon of margarine and let it melt in a pan and you will see it.

butter is made from churned milk. there may be a bit of additives, but it's almost all milk fat products.

it's always been my understanding that the active ingredient in pot was only used with an animal fat or alcohol in some circumstances. a friend gave me a bottle of alcohol that had bud steeped in it and it was a fairly cool topical pain relief. also chocolate candies that have milk fat are popular at clubs.

there is no animal fat in margarine, unless you have the type that specifically says it has a bit of butter in it. it's almost always vegetable or corn oil dude.

I did find out one thing. It doesn't harden up worth a shit. I am attempting to seperate it more. I skimmed off what hardened mess I could and put into another bowl. Continued to drain the rest of the liquid off of it as I could. I then warmed it up again to liquify it again then stuck it back into the fridge again.

Hopefully I can save some for a few cookies. It looks like I got back close to a 1/2 cup of the 3/4 cup I put into it.

I'm a firm believer that a little back is better than nothing. I'd still be bummed, but what the hell, you know? you probably still have your looks, right?

Well, I'm all finished up with my little tryout thingy here. Sorry I didn't get any pics Ya'll. My camera batteries are dead and I can't find my charger cable anywhere. I think one of my kids ran off with it or something.

I will say DON'T use Margerine USE butter. I started with 3/4 of a cup of Margerine and ended up with 1/4 cup of cannabutter and it wasn't an easy trip to get it either. I had to keep straining and draining off the water to get the actual butter back out of the mess. the harder part of the butter floated to the top as the softer stuff stayed up under it. I just hope what I have is good.

I am on my way now to find a recipe for this 1/4 cup of cannabutter. :cool:
